Sorry if there's already a thread on this but why would they re-design such a popular character? I hope there will be some sort of patch to allow us to have the same Varic as DAII. That was my favourite character.
Why change Varic's appearance?

Sorry what? I don't see any differences.

He's not redesigned. Different engine + Varric is couple years older.
I'd say that Cassandra and Cullen were redesigned, Cullen more so, they changed some features that he had.

He looks the same to me, it's just a new engine. If anything, I think he looks better.

Agreed with everyone else. A new engine requires the characters to look just a little different. And he looks close enough and, in fact, looks better.

Well, people do change a little bit in looks over time. But the main reason is because this is a different engine, like everyone else has said. You noticed how returning characters in DA2 looked really different than they did in DAO, right? If you're using a different engine, the characters can't look exactly the same. To be honest though, all that's different about him is that he looks better now because the graphics are better. ![]()

If you need a way to rationalize it, recall that it's been about nine years since he met Hawke; DA2 didn't allow for the characters to actually show any signs of age over the course of the game, but that doesn't mean their appearances were actually static.

People growing old? Not in Thedas.

It's kind of an aesthetic statement, too...I guess there could be ways to render more realistic and gritty faces with the old engine too, but simply that was not the direction intended for, say, DA2...
Still, luckily not a redesign.

So since this topic is on................
What color is Varric hair ? I always though he was a red head..or brownish color .
Here in this pic it look Dark . I though it maybe due to his surrounding..but he is outside . Yet in another pic..it looked orange . So whats the final verdict ?

I'd be more worried if Varric got the "DA2 Elves" treatment.

Because people look different after ten years.

I think I know what you mean, Varric did have a slightly larger chin, fuller cheeks and a stockier build in DA2.
But he still looks awesome as heck though in the new engine, I prefer his new look.

I'm loving the amount of detail the new engine makes possible. I hope they can find a way to keep the scar on his nose (hinted at in DA2 with the prominent bump near the bridge.) I also like the redesign of the way he moves. No more cute little dwarf waddling around, but now he looks like he's ready to run, duck, and roll. I love the degree of character expressed in a person's face. It prompts questions about their personality like whether the crows feet in the corners of the eyes are laugh-lines or from squinting to get a clear shot. Such a stupid detail, but one that I notice every playthrough - one of Anders hands has moles. For me, it adds to his individuality. I have a brown mole between my eyebrows from the sun (yeah, my doc said we'll have to watch it) that people ask about, thinking it has religious significance. When I tell them what it is they're embarrassed, thinking they're calling attention to a beauty flaw. It's not - it's a part of my face that I'd feel funny about if it wasn't there, like the fact that one eyebrow is a mm or two lower than the other.
For me, it's more about individuality and character. Varric's got a lot of both. If he's had a few hard knocks over the years, I bet he's got even better stories to go with them.

As long as he still has his sandy blonde / light brown hair in Inquisition, I'll be happy. I really hated how in ME3 Udina and Bailey decided to start using Just For Men.

Aside from the obvious difference that follows with an engine change I'd argue he looks relatively the same if not better.
