I'll put it bluntly before I elaborate: I want to cover some side-missions in a second playthrough of the same Shepard I took through the game once, but I might not have the time before ME2's release, and as such want to skip some things I did in the first playthrough. Will the two playthroughs combine for the sequel import so that I have everything, or will I only get what I've accomplished in the second run and not the first?
As we know, some of the choices in the first game carry over to the second (e.g. assignments completed or not), as do certain other factors (such as whether or not you make it to level 60). On my main Shepard, I have most of the game completed, but I didn't find some optional missions before completing the game (e.g stopping the Geth incursion on one galaxy). I would just go through this Shepard again and nail everything in the game, to make sure I'm sorted for the sequel, but Mass Effect is a rather large game - there's a chance I won't make it. I'd easily have time if I didn't do some of the material that I did in the first runthrough, but I don't know whether or not my actions there will carry over if ignored in a later runthrough.
I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I need to make sure just in case. If I take this Shepard, and try to skip some material that I did do the first time round, in order to accomplish the side material, is the material I didn't cover in the second runthrough overwritten so that it never happened, and as such the consequences don't carry over to Mass Effect 2? Any help I could get here would be greatly appreciated.
