I don't know wether some of you have noticed this as well, but in yesterday's TWITCH presentation there was a quite significant difference in the walking style of the female dalish inquisitor and Cassandra when they were seen walking side by side. While Cassie had a very feminine way of moving the female inquisitor had a lot more bulky kind of walking. I have seen the female Qunari moving and it was much more feminine than the dalish, so now I'm a little irritated. Was it a bug in the cinematic? Or have female dalish much more to suffer wearing armor? ![]()
Female Dalish Inquisitor's walking style

...Well that's one way to get me to play a dalish I guess.
But I'm failry certain it's just the male walking animations being used in the cinematics. Female dalish will use her hip swaying run/walk everywhere else (which really makes the walk just look that much more ridiculous since the devs couldn't even bother being consistent with the damn thing).

Perhaps the animators are taking differing bone structure/armoring weight in account? The female dalish seems slimmer, less inclined for the feminine 'swagger' that Cass exhibits, her movements seemed more to conserve energy for well...moving. I'd compare it to 'catlike' as if all the resources spent getting from A to Z is calculated. I'd be curious to see if the different races (or even classes) have a different walk style--or if it is something the player themselves can pick. Such as a swagger, take over the space around them for some personalities, or a cocky stride for a sassy character. Measured steps like the lady Dalish would work for a warrior for me.
A welcome improvement if this is the case over the dopey lady hip swing we saw on LadyHawke.

Probably a bug. Her arms are usually wider to avoid clipping with her war horn.

BW was too busy perfecting Cassandra walk, they overlooked the female PC. Sad really.

I actually kind of HATE the way she stands when she's still - with her arms sticking out at an awkward, unnatural angle just to prevent clipping on that DUMB horn. :/

Yeah just let the damn thing clip. That stance looks worse than the clipping would.

Inquisitor could be using male/unisex animations because it's a cutscene?

though to be honest again i would have thought since cutscenes and in game look so... seamless? They'd still use the same walking animation you gender gets, regardless.

It's so simple. In Bioware's cutscenes (Mass Effect and Dragon Age) the protagonist always walks like a man regardless of gender. It's just because they save resources in not creating every cutscene twice with male and female animations and having a gender check before each scene. Male characters are still more important in today's games and a man walking like a woman would look awkward while when it's the other way around it looks not THAT ridiculous. Personally I don't like that but it's just the way it is. Also, this has been discussed numerous times in the past.

This may be it, the walk reminds me of how my Neria Surana looked when Jowan got her attention in the hall and said "Come with me". She walked just this way between that scene and the next where you meet Lily. I think Daylen Amell (my male Amell) did the same walk.

Actually I thought Cassandra's was more... weird than the Dalish. Specifiaclly in that scene, where the camera pans out, with both of 'em in focus at the centre, so you can see them walking in through the hallway of the base towards the war table. She's got a sway like nobody's business, whereas I thought the Dalish was walking rather "casually"?
EDIT: Having actually read the posts in the thread now, it's safe to say that I retract a bit of my above statement.
It is rather odd though how the sway is mysteriously absent from the Dalish in that scene. Cass's sway is ridiculously absurd though.

The only reason the female Elf looks different is because all female characters have the same walking animation. It looks bad on the warrior female efl because she is small and wearing a large, heavy coat.
I imagine it might look better with a mage in smaller armour or a rogue in smaller armour. The warrior armour didn't help the fact that elves are smaller than humans so the walking animation for females looks stupid on them.

I hope the female PC didn't get stuck with the male animations again I have bad memories of my FemShep hovering over things because MaleShep's rig was much bigger.

Y'know, a choice between the two walks -- for both female and male characters -- would actually be kind of nice, but I'm not sure how difficult it would be to implement that. Everyone could get their favoured walking style that way.

Cass has a runway walk I swear I've seen Tyra doing that on America's top model (it's a slightly toned down version XD). It's a badass walk. fem elf kind of looks frumpy in comparison really.

unfortunately it does look that way, as Phnx mentioned already, it makes a certain level of sense that during cutscenes they use the same animation for both genders as it will save time and they wouldn't have to animate two different versions of the same scene (one for boys one for girls). For characters who's gender is never question they don't have to worry about that, so Cassandra will have her female gait, but the inquisitor will have to use a neutral/male one because the gender may very.

I think it's a cinematic-specific thing, because it looks like the Inquisitor is using a custom walking animation that involves them holding their left hand out in front of them and looking at it. Hence Cassandra's comment on the Inquisitior's rift scar. Basically, they made one custom animation for that scene and it wasn't worth changing it to match the female walk.

we'd need to see another cutscene to be certain then, on in which the inquisitor is walking.
