*cough*
I still see nothing wrong with this.
Take your time to find the best example you can. I don't want to rush you.
Okay here's one: https://www.youtube....h?v=d9pTOARj3WQ
It's of soldiers marching yes, but see how controlled and straight their lines are? No lifting or swaying.
Another: http://youtu.be/WSh_-Vi33HQ?t=3m15s
This is closer to what we'd be doing in game. It is a hunting video though, so please don't click if you'll be upset!
and finally: http://youtu.be/W3HlEWnFyIY?t=55s
Not much wiggle and just a very sure, but casual and easy stroll.
Nope, just being a little passive aggressive, don't mind me.
You liked the posts disagreeing with that wording too, so I don't have much cause to get on your case about it, I know. Doesn't make much sense to me still, or at least, not what I'd do, but whatever.
Let me just say, I definitely get less sympathetic to the argument you're supporting every time I see it being framed so carelessly.
Yes, I like posts when I think they are valid and afterwards I tend to call out wording that I disagree with. I didn't in that case, but that's an exception.
Maybe you could stop being so sensitive to wording and think about the concept they're trying to get across.
I find this acceptable.
That looks more extreme than what DAI has.

Too rigid in the walk.

The only one I saw was 1 and 3.
I would hate 1 and I see no real difference between 3 and what we have.
It didn't seem rigid to me, given that she was in armor. I would expect some movements to be restricted, especially given the belts wrapped around the waist and covered with what appears to be heavy cloth. <shrug>
It would still be much better than the forced feminine walk we are getting.

Can someone re-link me to the current video of what we have in DA:I? I seem to be confabulating.

That isn't armor. That is a robe.
And I was referring more to her upper back and shoulders.

I don't see it, and that robe has leather armor under it. It always looked rigid under the cloth. But hey, to each their own. As I said before, we can agree that the current walk, especially the "cowpoke" one, is pretty awful.

I agree to no such thing. As I said, my friend and several other people I know naturally walks the way they have the Female Inquisitor walk.

Then I apologize for misunderstanding.
I have as well, but never while they were fencing, hunting, in armor, or doing self-defense. The stances for combat as well as the armor will change anyone's natural walk. I guess I'll never see the need to use time/resources just for two walks. Not to mention that the cut-scenes, when we'll get the best look at the character, is the male animation anyhow. What's the point if they aren't going to apply it to the cutscenes?
I keep using this video as an example, but the default walk style here is great!
She's tilting her back backwards in a very odd way. It looks very much like someone put a doll on a treadmill, stiff and almost too smooth? Or maybe it's too jerky. Either way, I find it awkward.

I find the walk too rigid, as well. I loved the run, though. I don't think a robe would be too restricting in the walk, but not the run.
The walk looks almost like marching to me and since people seem to be stuck on what is natural and what isn't-- I would say marching falls under the latter. Opinions, though.
For the Inquisitor, I except him/her to carry themselves like a general. Military generals, male or female, have a rigidity and a bit of a march to their step, so I think it would fit there.
But agreed, opinions. ![]()

lol you're right at least, I do tend to tune out of someone's words if they can't make their point without insulting swaths of people.
Maybe I should stop doing that. I wouldn't count on it, though. Just a policy of mine.

Here's the female Inquisitor for comparison:
Honestly I barely see a difference, except Saints Row has more of a certain bounciness to it.

To be fair, isn't that imposing just as much personality on the Inquisitor as the current walk does?

How someone presents their points is just as important as the points themselves.
Are we going into a tone policing debate?
Even after the original careless remark was apologized for?

I have no problem with a walk with personality at all. My issue is that sort of walk for the female Inquisitor, which I really think is better suited for non-combatants, conveys the wrong type of personality to me.
For a warrior (not for someone that isn't a combatant in the real world, so I'm not referring to your RL friend, promise) it screams, "Look at me!" more than, "Respect me as an authority figure." Whereas the other walk gives me the impression of authority and training. It also says to me, "Look at 'dem hips!"
Any kind of walk the animators create is going to have a style/personality to it. For the battlefield and for Skyhold, I want the walk to give the right impression. That kind of walk that's been shown for this game, for a warrior and a leader, is not a good impression for me. I know they want to do different styles of movement for both genders, but the walk as shown in DA:I and the one from DA2 leaves me feeling like they are trying too damned hard.
On the "default" walk? Really? Hmm, I just don't see it.
Starting at 0:09 she practically falls back.

So, it's okay to have an unnatural gait, as long as it fits in with the idea of what you think someone in military should have? I am not putting words in your mouth, just trying to figure out the reasoning when one of the main arguments have been that walking with hip sway isn't a natural, but a forced way to walk. So is a military stance. If you have to train yourself to walk that way, it isn't natural. Either way, it is about aesthetics and not practicality. You have an image in your mind of who your Inquisitor is and you want a walk that reflects that. That is perfectly understandable and one of the reasons I would like to see a more neutral walk. It still boils down to what is pleasing to the eye and not what is "natural" or "battle ready".
Then I apologize for misunderstanding.

Combat stance has nothing to do with walking. When the Inquisitor or the companions enter battle, their stance changes. So, it isn't going to change how you're walking around.
I completely agree about the cutscenes. That is a bit off-putting, but imo, it's a small thing that can be overlooked. I know it really bothers some and that's fine.

I get it. You don't want a walk that is good. You want a walk that is good for you.
