i still dont see why this is so important, you actually have to slightly nudge the controller for them to ever walk in the first place, holding it full tilt makes them jog, just hole it full tilt all the time. There is nothing overtly feminine about the jogging animation.

How? It's nothing like female Hawke's run from DA2.

I am PRO having as many character creator choices as we can. Walk choices would be awesome and I understand why people wouldn't want a more stylized walk being forced on them.

But what's with some of the messed up generalizations in this thread? No women actually walk like the DA2 animation?, it's never a natural walk and is always put on for attention?

This is just wrong. I NATURALLY run and walk like the DA2 animation to the extent that it trips me out to watch it. It is completely natural and I am not doing it for attention. I'm actually very shy. I have been walking like this since I was 4 or so and have the home video to prove it!  And that is way before I knew about flirting or being sexual. When I got older some people made fun of me for it. But it is not something I am consciously aware of and I am definitely not the only one like this.

So hey let's keep it real and not get rude on girls like me who walk like that k guys?  :)

Boys sometimes walk in a similar way which people consider "strange" as well, so it's not just a female thing. I know at least one person who walks in a girly(?) fashion and has been doing so since he was a wee child. He definitely gets far too much hassling for it.

People here seem to prefer the idea of being able to choose (or not choose) such a stylized walk just like you said. (Regardless of apparent gender of course.) A neutral walk wouldn't really hurt anyone's character personas, it just wouldn't help some. Meanwhile these forced expressive stances might hurt some.

I'm supportive of the neutral stance making it in future installments first, though it would be nice to have our current stances plus a neutral one as choices.

The robe is masking it somewhat. It's far more noticeable in the Skyhold video.

I disagree... There are 3 years difference which is really huge.

Wait a second, According to Wynne "And just what were you looking for in those swaying hips?" in response to party banter including Alistair, a romanced female warden, Wynne and whomever else you bring. Which means despite the in game animation the recurring truth is that female wardens were always intended to be swaying their hips as they walked/jogged.

We all know that blighted hag was full of **** :P

For serious: What bothers me is seeing it in gameplay, I can easily headcanon that my Wardens didn't do it regardless of what some old witch with a capital B says, just like I headcanoned that my Hawke's didn't and like I will that my Inquisitor's won't. All forcing those animations does is bother people who don't like them.

I don't think people realize how much work it would take to be able to change the animations. In this case I think they rather put the resources into the combat animations instead. I can howeever see how some people don't like the feminine walk all that much. It is somewhat wierd to see a brutal warrior woman walk in a overly feminine way.

i think its more like the cutscenes would have to be animated twice (male rig, female rig)

The majority of people walk pretty similarly, if they aren't thinking about it. Take the people in this video walking down a Tokyo street without thinking about how they move - if they were animated as skeletal rigs only, we probably wouldn't be able to tell what gender they're presenting as for about 90% of them. If types of walks are a normal curve, Bioware's animating one from each tail (and not particularly well, since the foot positioning and shoulder movement for FemHawke and FemQuisitor don't match the movements of their hips) and ignoring everything in the middle.

This website seems relevant to people's interests - a Canadian biomotion lab demo, with sliders to make a point-light walking skeleton more "male" or "female" or "nervous" or "happy," etc. It's fun to play around with, especially if you try to break the animations (move the sliders all the way to "male", "sad", "heavy" and "relaxed" to see an awesome dance!). Major points to notice: foot position, elbow tightness to body, and hip width are the primary differences between "male" and "female." Hand position, however, doesn't change, and the motion and angle of the pelvis is basically identical.

Also fun: guess the sex mocap quiz. I suck at it. Perform just barely over chance. Anyway, messing around with it helps further science, so try it out!

Cool stuff, but i kind of think maybe the director is aware of this kind of stuff, but is perhaps and im just saying... maybe the female inquisitor is aware of her style and grace and chooses to walk like that? just saying.

But what if we want to roleplay a female who is not? Who is direct and no nonsense and doesn't give a crap that she walks like a man? The point is, that walk is a characterful walk that doesn't fit every personality. You're right that it would fit an Inquisitor who is into being stylish and/or sexy, but it wouldn't fit one who is not. And as the point of roleplaying is that we can (or should be able to) create our character any way we want, those can certainly exist.

Which is not a choice that should be made for us about our characters. I don't want to play a character like that (not saying there's anything wrong with it -- simply not my preference), and I shouldn't have to. Nor should other people have to play a character who wouldn't walk like that, of course, thus why a choice would be best.

Also, considering that every female character appears to share more or less the same animation set if not exactly the same (as do the male characters), it seems less likely that it's chosen for that reason, as surely that's not the case for every NPC out there.

So out of character -_- Sigh, I really can't like this walking style. It would be great to characters like Vivienne or Isabela but not for Cassandra, Sera, many Inquisitors and the old priest who used it too.. ugh.
