I'm gonna be honest, I'm a bit annoyed that the sashaying walk/run for female characters is back. It irked me to no end in DA2. No one runs like that, certainly not in a fight. They'd dislocate their hips or at the very least pull something. I played all of DA2 on my replay with the male animations mapped to the female Hawke just because I found it so offputting.

it's not back in the same sense that you are implying. the run animation for both male and female inquisitor is neutral we've seen this already, it's the walking animation for female inquisitor that has a hint of a catwalk to it, and that's fine, you don't get to dictate how your female character walks, it's not an option it's a design decision they make.

lol Well, that's a bit on the dramatic. Personally, I like the little sway. It all boils down to preference, I suppose.

I totally hate sway, especially stupidly exaggerated sway. The walk should be like that all the time imo

I do agree that it's pretty jarring to see them walk one way during in-game and another way during cutscenes. I just don't think it's as exaggerated as some people say, though it's only my opinion that it isn't. I like a little roll of the hips, but yep--I would like to see consistency in it.

I rarely mimic my PC physically, so it doesn't bother me. I can understand where you're coming from, though. I used to dread seeing my female Shepard walk in Mass Effect 2.

That stupid night of the living dead with his neck turned to the side jog dude Shep did in ME2 was disturbing.

I had a bug where her head stuck in that sideways position. It was both disturbing and hilarious.

Personally, I loved the walking animations from the first Mass Effect and wouldn't mind see that as the standard. It seemed like a nice neutral walk.

Yep dude Shep walked a bit like a lady. FemShep walked a bit like a dude. And all was well.

I mean did anyone even complain about that walking animation? Why change it =/

What bothered me the most was the way she stood -- with her arms out like a pretty pretty princess *rolls eyes*

Damn if it was bug, I was hoping I'd get normal walking style to at least Dalish. Now I'm stuck with super model walk

I guess I will just play mostly guy PC's then. At least they have reasonable walk and running style.

What's wrong with being pretty or a princess?  :P

Princesses are for courts and dance balls. When I play female character in video game I want to be badass. Of cource you can kickass and look pretty but current female Inquisitor's manners don't really look like she's there to kick ass.

I hope the female PC didn't get stuck with the male animations again I have bad memories of my FemShep hovering over things because MaleShep's rig was much bigger.

The female PC also walked with her legs spread in the cutscene because the men are wider and have bigger feet. :/

What was your reason for playing a female character anyway, if you basically wanted them to be like a guy? To see the romances that were female exclusive? If so, you are basically saying, you're okay with playing a girl for the romances, but you can't disbelieve the illusion of said girl being feminine in her walk and grace? O_o i find this confusing.

Princess Leia disagrees with you, as does Princess Adora, and Princess Diana aka Wonder Woman.

Do I need much reason to play female character? I like playing both sexes, but overfeminine animations take away much joy from me. Maybe some likes their female characters to be that way but it doesn't fit to characters I have been thinking.

You don't walk in a "feminine" and "graceful" way when wearing armor, and Bioware's idea of said feminine walk is ridiculous, even in a dress and with high heels. Nobody runs like female Hawke did and I'm annoyed they brought it back for Cassandra (and possibly femInq and other female characters). A jog is not done with wildly swaying hips and flailing arms, at least if you don't want to be exhausted and sore after a couple hundred meters. I don't run like that, and that does not mean that I lack femininity and move like a caveman. Differences in regular walk style between men and women are small at best and pretty much nonexistant in running/jogging. I have never seen anyone run like femHawke and wonder whether the animators are just working with some kind of fantasy in their head of what they think a woman running is supposed to look like.

As several have said and some have ignored, this is what happens in cutscenes for BioWare games: the female player character will default to male animations.

Guide to BioWare walk animations

- If the knees cross in front of each other at all, it's a female animation.

- If the knees are turned 45 degrees away from the forward axis, it's a male animation.

Women look like they're strutting into a nightclub and the men look like brainless apes. Of course if they gave both less ridiculous walks it wouldn't be so obvious when they default to the other gender in cutscenes.

Most women don't have such an extreme walk most of the time, and yet their walk is still feminine. Exaggerating everything is the resort of the numb and the witless.

Who said everyone is wearing armor? Have you actually seen the walk animation in Inquisition, because im starting to think most of you haven't. You mention armor but fail to point out said people who wear said armor (Cassandra) aren't in full plate, she has on breastplate and seems to be wearing leather everywhere else. tumblr_ndegkn4aqo1sf74o4o1_r1_500.png

how about people actually watch the video instead of jumping to conclusions. In this video as is the heart of this conversation the Fem Quisitor has a male gait that looks awkward in the cut scene, however Cassandra walks in a more strut style. which may be her preference. However in the latest game play footage as you can see later on in the video you can see fem quisitor still walks with a fem gait, but runs in a NEUTRAL WAY.
