It's okay, I'm being picky. But it is lacking the grace and precision I would want in a character who is supposed to be a heroic adventurer.

Ah, to have a middle ground. Dreaming the impossible dream, right? I would like a male character that has some grace in his step, and a lady character with less sway. I think, despite some differences in opinion in the thread, it seems to be what a lot of people are shooting for.
I decided to try something on my own. When I went outside a bit ago, I walked across the house like I normally would, paying attention to my movements. My hips swayed, but not very much and not very far out. When I got outside and changed my walk to one with purpose (I used to fence and I've had some basic self-defense training,) my natural hip sway was almost completely gone.
I guess I'm too used to Bioware's PC having constantly terrible animations to bother anymore *shrugs*

Well I wouldn't say middle ground as such because I don't think either animation set is going in the right direction. I think a neutral/natural animation set is the logical option considering there's no point in having a characterised walk when it is shared by so many, and it won't misrepresent anyone.
Personally I would like a considered, precise Zorro / gunslinger inspired way of moving but I guess that clashes with the current trend of warriors being drunk, rogues being breakdancers and mages being... whatever mages are.
Still surprises me how good and overall normal it looks. To the DA team, is that really so much to ask for?
The elf inquisitor we saw with Cass walks like that in cutscenes.
What bugs me is the women always walk differently in cutscenes and outside of it. The male keeps the same walking.

That's exactly what I was trying to get at. That's what I was referring to with grace. As for the rest of that sentence, I hear you. ![]()
Woohoo, got a like back to give to ya!

When I saw that walk, it reminded me of the video for Cotton Eyed Joe (the Euro-Techno remix that got popular in the 90s.) I'll spare you guys and not link the video, but the kinda "hoedown" style of dancing looks a lot like her walk. This is not a good or flattering thing in this case.
I also agree here. Apply it consistently or not at all. I don't know why they waste the zots of having different styles of walking like that between genders. Makes no sense to me. And, particularly in this case, it looks just wrong.

I guess the only cutscenes wherein my PC won't walk like she has saddle sores are the romance scenes with everyone but Josie or Bull.
I'm starting to wonder what the female dwarf inquisitor walk will be like. It will look strange if she walks like that elfquisitor. It's not a major concern for me but it's still a valid argument.
I normally dont notice walk , unless its extremely weird . Like with femshep in Mass effect 2 where she run like her head is too heavy . Or in Mass Effect 3..where she run like she has been sitting on a horse all day .
People are always, always pointing out FemShep... but BroShep walks/runs the exact same way, and trust me, it looks equally stupid!!!! ![]()
I just look at peoples' heads and ignore walking animation; I didn't even notice Hawke's movement as distinctive until I had it pointed out to me. But I'm glad other people care.
nor do I wish Cassandra to have that
But I like itttttttt................... ![]()
Anyone actually tried to walk like that?
You mean like Cass or like the Dalish ? cass walk..I know someone who walked like that....and she wasn't some Top Model..but a Lawyer
as for the Dalish...her walk seem to *Me* very similar to Aveline . I suggest you go back to DA2 and compare....
It is said this engine was used for Battelfield 4 right ? I have no idea what Battelfield 4 look like...or if it has any NPC WALKING...did they have the same issue in that game ??
I never seen Male Hawk...but now I just did *post back* . And I say , even though his walk is fine . His arms are weird......
The issues of bodies seem to pile up . And I think Bioware should come off with a new walk..and not try to copy X or Y walk cose they looked good .
People are always, always pointing out FemShep... but BroShep walks/runs the exact same way, and trust me, it looks equally stupid!!!!
lol Played Maleshep up to Eden Prime ..and never left and his voice sent me screaming
barely noticed his walk.....how does he walk ? does he have the same animation in ME2 and 3 like femshep ?
Cass has a runway walk I swear I've seen Tyra doing that on America's top model (it's a slightly toned down version XD). It's a badass walk. fem elf kind of looks frumpy in comparison really.
Stupid/inrealistic more like it - why would a trained fighter strut around like a model...It's just plain stupid and not very realistic (after all, with a lot of - heavy - armor on, you don't walk like that anymore (neither women nor men!))
I would hope that they changed that (looked rather stupid in DA2)
greetings LAX

For one , plz try not t go 'Stupid' . You may not like someone walk...no need to demean it . As for the question why would a trained fighter strut around like a model ? Because being a warrior is being a warrior . But at some point you take off that armor..and be just that...a man and a women .
Also..lets not forget Cass is a seeker . Maybe she had more work in a Chantry then on the battelfield....so we arent talking DragonBorn like warrior . With naked torso and giant Axe .
I'm too hoping DA2 standing around doing nothing animation...stay in DA2 . The whole rolling one foot..like you trying to make a hole in the ground...wth was that .

I wouldn't say stupid. But there's a lot of character in such a walk (there's also a lot of character in an excessive swagger which is also why I think both extremes should be avoided. Even if the swagger would fit most of my characters).
I'm not so sure what is wrong with the ME1 Shep animations which from what I can recall were pretty neutral. It wasn't til ME2 that dude Shep started lumbering about.
People are always, always pointing out FemShep... but BroShep walks/runs the exact same way, and trust me, it looks equally stupid!!!!
It really does. I just grumbled and dealt with his lumbering about. I don't know why they turned the animations so goofy. They were fine in ME1.
Solution(kinda): mounts. Unless female horses have hip sway too

Probably the engine....again . I mean the look changed.....and shepard felt Heavy when she walked in her armor .

Ha Ha.........if it does......*facepalm* we are going in circle !

Oh man I would lose it laughing.

True but they could've at least made the animations more gender neutral like they were in the first.
As someone who wears heels nearly every single day, I can say you do walk differently. When I am wearing sneakers, my gait is a bit different. I have absolutely no issues with balance while wearing them and people always seem pretty amazed that I can run quite fast in them. Most likely because I do wear them so often, I have conditioned myself. This thread brings to mind an instructional video I watched, made by one of the Pussycat Dolls about how to walk in heels.
She outlined how to keep your knees straight and put each foot directly in front of the other with each step - as thought walking on a tightrope. She also mentioned how you have to be aware of your center of gravity and how your hips are moving to get the perfect sexy sway.
Point being - how we walk can be, and often is, unnatural. If you've dressed to the nines to go to a club, you want to feel sexy and confident, and you'll adjust your gait, even subconsciously, to something that will achieve that. You probably walk very differently when you're retrieving your mail from the mailbox or grocery shopping.
Within the limitations of a video game, however, adding unique situational walking animations for each race simply isn't a good use of resources... and usually when it IS done, it's cringe-worthy (FemShep in Citadel?) That's why neutral, non-gendered animation is so important.
For now, I'm going to hope that the Inquisitor's animation in that cutscene is something that is still being polished and female Inquisitors aren't going to be rigged to male animations for the entire game.
FemHawke with MaleHawke animations.
OMG YESSSS!!!!
She looks like a normal person walking around! I pains me to say this, but I simply cannot take FemHawke seriously when she moves around with the "female" animations in game *because those animations are an exaggerated caricature of someone's idea of "sexy." It is more important for FemHawke to be sexy than anything else, apparently.
She's using "male" animations in this vid, and yet she does *not* look manly at all.
