OMG YESSSS!!!!

She looks like a normal person walking around! I pains me to say this, but I simply cannot take FemHawke seriously when she moves around with the "female" animations in game *because those animations are an exaggerated caricature of someone's idea of "sexy." It is more important for FemHawke to be sexy than anything else, apparently.

She's using "male" animations in this vid, and yet she does *not* look manly at all.

I like the run, but I don't really care for the walk.

Why's that?

Just seems a bit stiff. Something about the arms, it feels like I am watching a march in slow motion. I didn't really care for it when it's on the male either. Just preference, really.

Agreed. The walk is awkward. The run is lovely.

FemHawke's idle animation should have been her on a stripper pole.  That would have really balanced out things I think.

Well I wouldn't say middle ground as such because I don't think either animation set is going in the right direction. I think a neutral/natural animation set is the logical option considering there's no point in having a characterised walk when it is shared by so many, and it won't misrepresent anyone.

Personally I would like a considered, precise Zorro / gunslinger inspired way of moving but I guess that clashes with the current trend of warriors being drunk, rogues being breakdancers and mages being... whatever mages are.

Party illumination lights :D ^^ (and special effects guys ^^)

But yeah, I hear you - precision, grace (and no swaying etc.), purpose and a hint of martial arts training (got some myself - Karate - and it does change the way you walk, not by much but still!) and readiness to fight (add a lot of confidence and intelligence and you got yourself a leader) is what I would want to see in a leader/hero I would consider supporting/following...a person who may do the right things will still ruin his charisma if he/she moves the wrong way (It distorts the image and destroys charisma - as the later is the result of the whole person...you either have it or you don't IMHO)

greetings LAX

If I was looking for a leader, I would look to their actions, their morals and how they treated their fellow man. A lot if things would factor in, but I doubt I would care if they swayed their hips or not when faced with total annihilation of the world.

I guess the only cutscenes wherein my PC won't walk like she has saddle sores are the romance scenes with everyone but Josie or Bull.

This could be an explanation.

Seriously though, I'm curious about female exclusive romance custcenes too.

I hope the female PC didn't get stuck with the male animations again I have bad memories of my FemShep hovering over things because MaleShep's rig was much bigger.

Ha. Not as bad as in me3 when you were wearing the casual dress and femshep sat down with her legs wide open.... *shudder*

Wait.... look at the knees of the female elf, somethings wrong. Her thighs are to long. Her knee bends almost exactly at the same level as Cassandras, but shes shorter than Cassander, the knee should be lower than Cassandra's knee. Again it makes it look like the thighs are extra elongated.

What was your reason for playing a female character anyway, if you basically wanted them to be like a guy? To see the romances that were female exclusive? If so, you are basically saying, you're okay with playing a girl for the romances, but you can't disbelieve the illusion of said girl being feminine in her walk and grace? O_o i find this confusing.

How about not all women are supremely feminine? You can be a woman and not walk with a flounce or wear skirts or curl your hair; all that's required is being a woman.

I think the cutscenes may be unfair to female inquisitors.

To me, Cassandra is not "manly" at all.  People point to her strong jawline (like they did with Aveline) as if strong jawlines do not exist on women.  Cassandra is powerful and fierce and aggressive, and still very much non-manly to me.  The issue I have is that I know *why* that walk animation was created in the first place. Women walk the way they do in this game ( a sexualized and exaggerated strut) in order to appeal to those that find females attractive.  That's it. That's the reason why everyone from Cassandra to elderly female beggars on the street will wiggle their hips as though they are strutting down a catwalk.

The walk is reflective of personality when it is that exaggerated.  As I said before, an image-conscious or sexually confident woman ( Vivienne and Isabela respectively) look fine walking around like that. It works with their character.  Aveline and Cassandra wouldn't give a damn about looking sexy when there are demons to slay, based on what we know of their personality. That's what I take issue with. It doesn't work for every woman, yet every woman is given that walk as though it is just natural.  It's not.

It is fine to be strong, confident and "feminine" (whatever your interpretation of the word is ) in real life.  The issue here is that a female warrior in heavy plate armor carrying around a large shield/war hammer on her back while slogging through a fetid swamp in the pouring rain, in the dead of night, with demon-possessed corpses skulking about all around her is *NOT* going to give a flaming crap about wiggling her hips and daintily swaying her arms out at a 45 degree angle and lookin' sexayyy.  Not if she is in her right mind, at least.  She isn't strolling through the mall on a Saturday afternoon.

She's demon hunting.

Also, even models all have a different "fierce hip-swaying" walk to go down the catwalk with. Watch 10 models strut and they all look insanely different because it's very much to their personality.

But 10 people walknig casually down the street, depending on pace it's all pretty similar, considering.

It's just weird to see every character in a game walk in exactly the same exaggerated fashion instead of a casual walk. It's disconcerting.

At the end of the day, it's a resource and animation issue. Could they have chosen a better animation? I sure think so.

If they would have given Cassandra her own animation simply because she is a warrior, then some people would have complained that their warriors didn't have it. If they gave it to all warriors, then people would complain their female warriors walked too "manly". I would have liked a more neutral walking for both male and female, but it is what it is. I really don't think it's a social issue (for lack of a better term). I do believe that Bioware strives to bring a lot of variants to the table, even if sometimes it falls short. Maybe for future installments it will change.

Yes, however I think the argument "We wanted everyone to have an average, casual walk" will always go over more well than "We wanted our female characters to have a little hip-sway."

Well, I am not disagreeing with that.

Personally, I don't mind a little sway. I would have preferred something like ME1, but I can deal with a bit of a sway. I get that some don't and I understand some of their points. (the aesthetic ones/role playing ones, not so much the practicality ones)

As I said, hopefully they will take note and future installments will have something more neutral for both genders.

The resources for the game are spoken for, at this point, but in a perfect world, I would love a contemporary Character Creator like the one in Saint's Row 2. You could choose everything but your height. Clothing had an unbelievable number of layers, combining as many as 8 individual pieces. You could select your "walking and running" animations (although with very limited choices.)

But at this point, I'll be happy if female characters don't end up with FemShep's animations from Mass Effect 3. Excuse me, I have to rinse now that I've reminded myself of Femshep's animations from Mass Effect 3!

Don't be too hard on yourself. Your point was fundamentally inclusive. At worst, it was incomplete.
