Wait. You mean you bought 8GB of RAM without knowing that you'd need a 64-bit OS to actually use the RAM?
Sure. My point was that I don't think there are actually very many people for whom the OS is the only limiting factor. If the PC wouldn't run DAI anyway, it doesn't matter what the OS is. How many machines with a 4870 or better shipped with 32-bit OSes?
Yes. Silly I know, but I simply wasn't aware. And it wasn't like there were many (if any) games demanding more than 4 GB (heck, here we are with DA I and its BARELY going over the 32 bit limit, kind of a waste if you think about it).
Imagine if you didn't follow gaming news at all (I didn't very much until the last year or so), just played games as you saw them. Most of the things that we think are obvious are actually the result of communication with others who know less than us in some areas and more than us in others.
I'll be honest I wouldn't know the answer to the second question because the only retail PC I've bought in ten years was my laptop, I really have no idea what OS those guys (HP, Dell, all them) typically put on a PC.
