Its been rumored that the default story is a dalish elf that made the ultimate sacrifice and i was wondering what people thought of this?

It really kinda bums me out that its not the cousland warden like its was with da2 it seems a little disappointing to have the warden sacrifice themselves when the option of saving yourself is presented pretty much everyone who played da:o chose it!

There were three options in DA2. This was one of them.

I tend to dig sacrificial endings, but Origins gave me a happier ending instead and I'm grateful for that rare gem.

I'm not sure what you mean about Cousland being the default in DA2, however. I believe you may well be getting different factors confused. BioWare has always held fast to the statement that a Dalish Warden female who sacrifices herself at the end of the story is the "default." That's always, always been the case. There's no rumor there, but it isn't relevant, either. It's just a single instance within a universe of possibilities and it won't correlate to Inquisition in any singularly imperative fashion.

It doesn't really matter since the keep is available to everyone for free. Unlike in Mass Effect where if you didin't make saves from the other game or two you were stuck with the default for mass effect 2 or 3. That encouraged people to buy the first two mass effects and play them to get the world states they want which was a smart business move since they made default shepard not that cool at all. In DA:I the only people who will use default world state are the ones who don't want to bother with the keep but they still have the choice to change it up without having to buy/play the first two games.

My point is i don't think much of it at all since it doesn't really mean anything.

I imagine they're referring to one of the three possible backgrounds for DA2 if you didn't import a Warden.

Apparently the default setting is made to tie off any loose ends for instance the OGB, or Warden won't turn up, which I think makes sense.

Yup. Probably a lot of characters dead as well.

The default is the worldstate that requires the smallest amount of possible backstory and knowledge. In other words, it's a grim world.

Where did you get those statistics on everyone choosing to do the ritual? I only did it in one playthrough for the achievement. All my others had no OGB.

And yeah it's not a rumor. The default story and canon is female dalish elf died doing the ultimate sacrifice.

But they've made it clear that's their canon, they aren't going to make it over-ride yours during your playthroughs.

yes the cannon is a female dalish elf warrior who made the ultimate sacrifice, and hawke was a male mage. i'm sure you can find the rest of the cannon if you look or ask people.

With the keep, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to play the "default" story unless they choose to do so.

I guess people worry that if and when they decide to simplify things for future games, rather than making a million options for each scenario, they might just have their canon be automatic for all playthroughs? Plus I know some people want their choices to be made canon so they can be larger parts of future games, but if those choices contradict biowares personal canon that's pretty much not gonna happen.

I don't think bioware is going to do any canon forcing though so what they keep in mind to keep things simple for themselves is fine with me.

Well as said before the canon is a minimal worldstate. Given that they have put the resources into making the OGB I'd say you dont need to worry about the state of the world showing up in future games.

I guess if you can't get your chosen platform online (like myself) then you may be a little worried.

That said, it's not something I'm worried about. Most likely certain things will be closed off to me and I'll probably play in a Thedas that is much darker than my two canons, but that's the way it goes. I'll still enjoy the game.

Not sure why it should matter, not like it's being forced on us.

Yeah who cares what the default world state is ? there is no "canon" for me with the keep and the whole import your save feature, same as it was with ME

Exactly. The default is really just aimed at new players to prevent knowing characters waving at them who they won't recognise.

And even new players can watch the ISS and have some fun in the Keep.

For people thinking they are stuck with the Default due to data limits or Dial up, the information the keep sends to your game is very small. (likely smaller than a mb)

Actually, I chose the Ultimate Sacrifice because I thought Morrigan's ritual was an abomination, and I didn't go through all that trouble just to have the archdemon appear in some other form.  I was surprised more people didn't choose that ending and felt it gave the game an amazing ending.

I wouldn't worry too much about the "default state" if I were you.  Bioware does its best to reflect player choice in future games which is why they decided to develop the Keep as a total gift to the hardcore DA fans.  If you look at the default state for ME3 (new game with no savegame import), you might be surprised at how many characters the game assumes died during ME1 and 2.  But the only reason they frame it that way is so that a new player isn't being hit with a whole bunch of characters from previous games that his/her Sheperd is supposed to know.

Again, I'm wondering where people are getting these stats that make them think more people did the dark ritual than not?

Mostly, I was just surprised by the very loud buzz of people expecting the Old God Baby to be a major part of future games and by the way the Ultimate Sacrifice ending doesn't import into Awakenings.  I don't actually have any firm statistics on how many people chose which ending.  My choice just seemed most logical to me, but that's my fault for assuming that every other gamer is as melodramatic as I am.

I have saves that are 50/50. I have an US ending in two (Alistair did it in one and the Warden in the other) and OGB in two (Alistair and Anora in one with Alistair and Warden in the other).

I felt that they set up the ending about right. I didn't feel particularly swayed one way or the other, so I have a good range of endings to possibly work with.
