Yes, but I wish they would have choose to go with the female one for both, and thus probably being the only devs in the gaming world that did this.

So you just want bioware to do it for no good reason at all? Female animations for males would look ridicioulus while male ones for females do not.

Do you have something in front of you? Grab it. I just grabbed my coffee... My arm raised, hand opened and then pulled it back in.
Chances are when you grabbed something, you didn't flip your hair, raise your elbow above your hand or stick out your pinky when you grabbed whatever. We did it the same way.

I don't think men and women move that differently. Especially when they're totally confined in armor, or sports bra. Different people move differently though, its not like all women have some feminine saunter and all men march. In DA2, Aveline walked "like a man" and Isabela has a feminine walk animation, even though they were both women.

Apart from that, you got to think about what one of the first posters said: They have 8 races and two genders of each race. Probably a 100 cut scenes or so. They aren't going to sit and animate each one all over again to make sure that they remind you that your dwarf didn't just have its beard fall off.

You know you made a female character at the start. The difference even after being redone would be barely noticeable and not even applicable in many circumstances... So, is this really worth any criticism?

It would definitely be noticeable... that animation is kinda ugly and goofy. Then again, I never go into BioWare games expecting gorgeous animation. They've always been a little bit off, and they've already shown that in trailers. Like when the hand that's supposed to be pressing on Leliana's face moves independently of where her face actually is, and when Sera's knife slides around in the undead she's stabbing as if there's no risistance. Mass Effect had a lot of the same issues. It's nothing new in these games.

Have you seen how the women in DAI stand , walk and run?

The exaggerated hip sway, and standing with her arms and hands pointed out....im kinda glad they use the male animations in cutscenes.

God no. I don't want my male Inq run around like a poof.

Seriously man? That's a cruddy thing to say.

But I aggree for a different reason. It would create some physically impossible clipping situations for the Male Inquisitor if they used the female animations. I did it in DA2 for laughs, but his arms tended to clip through the side of his own body on a regular basis.

I think that's the best way to go for them, well in future games. Then we come to what is a gender neutral walk?

Good question, I guess a middle ground. Something between both animations?

Actually I made sure my pinky was out before I grabbed the mug, and did a quick glance in a mirror I have close by just to make sure my makeup is still  looking okay.

Seriously, Since they already do use different animations for walking, I wondered why they did not bother to do so in cutscenes. When I walk outside the virtual world, I certainly do not sway my hip. But when I'm playing a game I prefer to have "sexy", "feminine" or "sensual" animations. I but those words in quotation marks because everyone have different opinions on what is sexy and all that.

Because having stock movement animations for each gender is a different affair to animating a cinematic or cutscene.

It's really not, most people probably don't want to roleplay the stereotypical homosexual man that is portrayed all too many times in media.

I propose that in the next game BioWare makes they use more effeminate animations as the default for both genders and then we will see how much the issue explodes.

Eh it could easily be a roleplaying issue as well hence why they kept it neutral as demon said we then come to the question what is a gender neutral walk? For this issue you would just have to ask bioware I think.

I don't mean a nuetral rig/walk/anims, I just mean a scripting process for how models move through the cutscene that's neutral as a starting point. Then you go back and tweak it so, for example, the FemQuisitor doesn't walk like she got a Qunari mega-wedgie and her male counterpart doesn't clip his elbows through his own torso. I can't imagine that would be terribly hard for a company like BioWare to implement.

I really just mean the kinda derogatory terminology.

Some people? You're the only one i've seen complain about it, while the backlash would be massive if they used female animations for males.

Not a big fan of the exaggerated hip-sway walk, but it is kinda hard to watch a female inquisitor walk into a room with the Male animation.

I don't mind how the Warden walks in DAO, it's gender neutral.

Yes it would be a backlash, and that show us a part of the problem. Those of us who want the FemInq, or any female character in games where they do use different animations but not for cutscenes (Saints Row 3 and 4 for example) to use the female ones in cutscenes are told that we'll, it's just how it is. While if the opposite would happen lots of people would complain, then people would understand. Why not now?

Because it has no benefits. Women already complain about being objectified too much, having this animation for the sole purpose of being sexy would create backlash from both sides. Imagine ''well today we decided to change the walking animation in cutscenes for both genders to the female animation because we think it looks sexier.'' How does that sound to you?

It's sexy?

Not really, most people I know would probably laugh their asses off if somebody seriously walked like that because they tought it was sexy.

Walking animation do not bother me. In ME3 female sit animation was awful.
I just hope they don't use male animation for orlesian ball... Would be awkward!

Only because Bioware's male animations tend to be overdone as well, as another poster already said. Manly caveman and sassy f(l)ailing seductress is what they can offer.

I would be even more glad if choosing the male idle and walk animation were something in the game right off the bat, which I suppose one can doubt at this point.

I know I did enjoy Ms Hawke in DA2 a lot more that way with male animation-set, replacing which wasn't too difficult a thing to do through override-mod and editor on PC. Guess I'll wait and see whether this will get figured out for DA:I by the community after launch.

PS: Come to think of it, looking at that recent trailer, I'd greatly prefer Cass' to have male animation-set. Just feels...off for her to stand around in that DA2-fémme pose.

I never really noticed this.  I guess it's not a huge issue, but I'm surprised something this minor couldn't be resolved.  If this were a game that didn't sell well or a new game with no idea of how sales would be, then I could totally understand on cutting costs on little things.  As each player spends a lot of time on a game like this and tries to embrace their hero's role, I'd think they'd fix this.

Like I said it's not a huge issue.  I can live it, but it doesn't seem like something that would put the work force in overload and destroy the budget to break the bank.  There are a lot more female characters being used than one might think.

I really don't think that we've seen enough actual cut scenes to make any generalizations about this subject yet...

I highly doubt straight males would find the exaggerated hip swaying of their male Inquisitor sexy.

If they just did that and not say anything, it would still create a backlash. The problem is that less people have a problem with women that show masculine traits compared to the opposite. People are afraid of feminine men, because people tend to look down on what is considered to be feminine.

I have a feeling that they will, if you're playing a female inquisitor who dances with another woman. But when you dance with a man I think it will switch to the correct animations.

I highly doubt straight males would find the exaggerated hip swaying of their male Inquisitor sexy.

Maybe they would if they opened their minds a bit more. Because it the end it's just a way to express yourself, it really has nothing to do with gender. It's just us who assign gender to it.
