I did not put forth the argument of different animating sequences only that both cinematic and game match.

As far as the price of business goes, my husband develops programs for the US defense department so I'm well aware of software costs.

I expect a triple A studio to be polished, period. If said resources are limited, fine, use one animation.

I develop software myself and I could tell you that it depends on the type of software. None of us can't paint a proper picture because we don't know what the system looks like, but I can tell you that it isn't cheap.

Maybe they would if they opened their minds a bit more. Because it the end it's just a way to express yourself, it really has nothing to do with gender. It's just us who assign gender to it.

Ahh so that's why, trying to shove some message through the PC's walking animation.

Well sorry but I want my male Inquisitor to walk like a man or more accurately like a normal human(oid).

Hubby's achievements include being on the team that developed GPS in the late 80's first used by our guys in Desert Storm.

In the end it doesn't really matter to me. I'm not here to play EA's Sims. BioWare, along with my other favorite Bethesda, at least offer female heroes to enjoy. (Though BioWare outshines them clearly, imo, in storytelling.) And, for that, I will be forever in their debt, literally. I will support them in everything from the game itself to the outside media they generate.

Exactly, a game that is so heavy on assets and offers that much choice is something I am thankful for.

Id rather Bioware spend their time and resources on something actually important. Making 2 versions of the same scene for something trivial as gender is not.

Except only the default is acceptable. The others look really dorky, unfortunately:

See, the default walk there is something I'd consider genderneutral.

I'm watching it on a phone so I can't see the names of the other walk styles, but I saw one with an exaggerated hip sway that seems similar to the female animations used in DA2/DAI as well as a couple walk styles that look exagerratedly masculine.

The bottom line is that exaggerated, gendered movement is no bueno. :D

Some are even creepy... I would accept a few of them.... including the default one.

I'm sure those of you steadfast against the idea of your male Inquisitor using female animations can sympathise with those of us against the idea of our female Inquisitor using male animations.

Glad we're on the same page.

That gender-neutral animation sure is terrifying.  :o

You mean my avatar?

I was playing Kasumi's DLC for the first time ever the other day, and I decided to walk whist at the party because it was more immersive.
I won't be making that mistake again.
Especially in a dress.

It's going to bug the hell out of me, but oh well. Women are hard to animate.

No, I mean the walk animation for the Inquisitor that suits both genders.

We haven't really had a good enough look at the animations to know for certain.

The main point of my post is to highlight the hypocrisy some people are displaying with their "I don't want my male using female animations, but people who don't want their female using male animations will just have to deal with it" attitude.

I highly doubt straight males would find the exaggerated hip swaying of their male Inquisitor sexy.

As a gay person I wouldn't either.

You don't see this as a serious issue, because it's not a serious issue for you.

Have you ever wondered why that is? Most women don't even walk with exaggerated hip-swaying, I'd say most walk closer to the male animation. And seemingly most people don't have any problems with it, and we can assume that some of those will be playing a female character.

Im with the op on this one. While i understand Bioware's reasons, I disagree that spending the extra resources for animations wouldn't be worth it. I also disagree with the assertion by some that its not very noticeable. I remember a number of instances in prior games where it was very noticeable, and in some cases, rather jarring.

I haven't seen the DA:I cutscene animations, but I know my FemHawke walked like she had a massive package during cutscenes in DA2 and it was....distracting, lol. I'd probably care less if she was hunkered down in armor, maybe it's harder to notice. But while wearing light clothing ehhhhh... It's really noticeable. And I'm someone who doesn't mind how she walked every other time (out of cutscenes). On the other hand, the run was really bad.

We can assume that some people posting in this thread will be playing as a female character, including myself, now if only if we had an option for female characters to use the male walking animaion outside of cutscenes.

It's still hypocrisy.
In the incredible event that Bioware ever made a game where male PCs defaulted to using female animations, I can't imagine many players sitting on this thread saying "oh, it doesn't bother me really" or "I understand, it's obviously just a matter of resources" or "Why would they waste time making two versions of the same cutscene just so males can have male animations?"

Speaking of animations the one gripe that I have from what I have seen of DA: Inquisition is the animations ofi the NPC's that you talk to out in the world.

Randiom NPC's look to be so poorly animated that its jarring when compared to the polish of the rest of the game.

I can't be the only one who has noticed this right?

Having separate animations would be preferable if there was an option for either. And no you're right people would be compalining like all hell, but that's because the female walking animation is HEAVILY feminine, while the male walking animation is closer to gender-neutral wich is why I think bioware went with that one. So people complaining in that scenario would be more understandable honestly.
