We haven't really had a good enough look at the animations to know for certain.

The main point of my post is to highlight the hypocrisy some people are displaying with their "I don't want my male using female animations, but people who don't want their female using male animations will just have to deal with it" attitude.

My prediction as a hypothetical dev would be that the majority would prefer a neutral walk animation, not being forced into some hip-swaying for males or females. A simple, NORMAL walk, not specific to males simply because it involves no sashaying. What about the walk animations define them specifically as male?

Uh, what exactly are you expecting? More hip swaying or something?

A sassy shimmy! Maybe a few finger snaps?

I'd prefer a gender-neutral walk, myself. A middle-ground between the two extremes Bioware generally likes to use. And I'd like it to be used outside of cutscenes too.

Buts it's not even about what animations people would like, rather the point is that some people despise the idea of seeing their male PCs walk with a sway, but then are utterly dismissive or downright scathing towards people who dislike the idea of seeing their female PCs walk with wide shoulders and legs.
I can understand people being upset at the idea of their male PCs using the current female animations. I'd just like the same courtesy to be returned.

I personally don't want to walk like a dainty little woman in my female play throughs. >.>

And Candy Crush is stupid -_-
I'll stick with Dragon Age and Skyrim, etc.

I'm not getting these "two extremes" you're referring to. Can you point out to me what makes the basic walk animation inherently masculine in the "extreme"? I understand your problem with a double standard (and general disrespect) shown by certain posters but I'm am seeing nothing particularly "manly" about in-game movement.

I'll just reiterate what I said in a similar thread.

Cass should be the one walking in a more neutral and natural way in that cutscene.  It just looks so "off" to see her swinging her hips around like that.  SMH

If female Inquisitor needs a feminine walk let it be something that requires skill. I want my ladies to permanently do the Egyptian walk.

Well, I'd rather avoid classifying movement as 'masculine' or 'feminine', because the truth is people all move differently regardless of their gender. I could say the hip-swaying walk is more often seen in females, and the wide-leg-wide-shoulders walk is more often seen in males, but they are not exclusive to those genders.

Rather, I'm classifying the animation set Bioware has assigned to males as the 'male animations' and the animation set they have assigned to females as the 'female animations'.
In the case of the DAI video we've seen, it's hard to draw conclusions from such a short clip, but those animations looked closer to Bioware's male animations than their female animations.

Okay. You did say Bioware used 2 extremes though, so I thought you were referring to specific movement.

Indeed. Cass should move like Aveline in that regard (though I would prefer the hip sway to disappear entirely)

I did notice this. Let's hope she sits with her legs closer together if wearing a dress and not like she's got crotch rot. I'm loving the walk/run/idles for the Inquisitrix tho. It's sad they didn't put in the effort to give her the female animations (which already exist as seen with Cassandra) in cutscenes too. Oh well. :/ She is her own character and it would have been a nice touch to have her animations be entirely separate from the dudequisitor.

The guerilla walk bothers me but what bothers me more is that my female pcs are going to look weird and awkward in nearly every cut scene because of the simple fact that the male rig is bigger. She's going to hover over things and all her rest positions are going to look odd.

The worst part is it doesn't have to be like that. Cut scenes could be done in such a way that the fact that once again male animations are the default is a lot less obvious.

I certainly prefer it over the female animations they have, as I find the female running and walking animations ridiculous. Even when standing still the female characters look odd. Why are the arms not relaxed and are instead pointing outwards (you can see it in the latest twitch stream right before the advisor cutscene)? That just looks weird, no matter how 'feminine' you want your character to look. Nobody stands like that.

Sad, sad excuse considering 3+ years in development and triple A status.

You clearly know nothing about game development. I'd keep my uninformed opinions to myself if I were you. You're being incredibly inappropriate towards the develepors who have poured so much time and effort into this game, and you being a consumer does not justify being an ass.

Here's some perspective. The developers needed more time to polish the game and received an extra month of development time, after it had been postponed a year. So it rather obvious that implementing something that is incredibly unnecessary, like movement a gender-neutral walk (which doesn't even exist unless you want a robotic fake walk), was quite low on the to-do list.

Besides, the "masculine" walk is as "gender-neutral" as you can get.

Yes!!  Those arms sticking out at a 45 degree angle.

I can't.

I just can't.

Some people? You're the only one i've seen complain about it, while the backlash would be massive if they used female animations for males.

Bioware would lose over half their fanbase overnight if they did this. I sure as heck wouldn't stick around.

I'm with you OP, I don't care for the male animations being used for the female either. I don't want an overexaggerated female animation, but something a bit more feminine would be nice. Sadly, I doubt this will change.

The Dragon Age games are marketed at men. The Call of Duty Series are marketed at teenage boys.  Transformers? boys Final Fantasy? Asians but boys.

You are in a male dominated industry. It's too bad if you dont like it thats the thing about a free market it can be aimed at anyone the company pleases. If you want to play games which are primarily aimed at girls then you can go and play Candy crush or some other similar game.

which is a load of bs because bioware has more than any company gone out of their way to be inclusive of women and minorities. Bioware games have a huge female fan base, more so than the majority rpg franchises both japanese and western and call of duty type games. If it wasnt for this there wouldnt be such a large number of women participating on this forum, so gtfo with your pea brained sexist bs. If it was only marketed to straight males why do they have gay romances, if anything theyve been getting **** for it and alienated potential customers, male gamers as a group arent exactly full of emotionally mature and balanced men

+1 ! I'M out of like sorry !

But I agree . If the EXUSE IS : It cost alot of Money and Time . Then they should stick with a NEUTRALE walk/Stance . If they have time to work on a Manly walk/Stance then they have time to work on one for the opposite gender .

The problem is that the male animation is neutral, and the female animation is exaggerated. They should both be neutral, or we should be allowed to choose.

Have you ever wondered why that is? Most women don't even walk with exaggerated hip-swaying, I'd say most walk closer to the male animation.

Exactly. Especially when they are doing something that requires balance and keeping a reasonable centre of gravity, such as combat or hiking around in mountainous areas.

This is pretty odd. I see quite a few people complaining that the FemInq's walk is too feminine and now the cut scene walk is too masculine.
