Melee Mage with Staff Swords?

Still, would the mages still hit enemies with their staffs if they come up close like they did in dragon age 2? Its one of the few things I liked about Dragon age 2 and I have found no footage of mages doing that so far.
Although there is a knight enchanter class with a spirit sword power, it Turns out that it is summoned kinda like mass effect 3's omni blade. If mages cant melee with their staff, i May have to opt for the Warrior Templar for my magic knight needs.

Sorry, they removed staff melee as well as the melee dagger attacks for archers.

Um... no idea. They said this in a tweet that was posted in a thread about a crafting demo... or something... the one where there was a weapon called "Knight Enchanter Greatsword" in one of the screenshots.
I'll see if I can find it... (edit: well I found that thread but I don't think this is the right one... :S)

I have a question, will rogues and mages get a weaker melee attack like they did in DA2?
No.

I can see how some people might have liked it, i have no feelings towards it though neither like nor dislike it, but it didn't really serve any purpose other than another animation for your characters "up in your face, animation" so it won't change a thing

I don't understand why this is. Warriors and rogues both get two weapon skills, indicating that not everyone goes through the same training, yet ALL mages only know how to use a staff? What kind of Iron Bull is that? I LOVED the fact that Hawke and co could use their staves to actually protect themselves (as well as the introduction of mage pants) because I hate that mages in every setting are shown to be this frail and delicate flower that crumbles at the first exertions of energy. That's why I loved the biotic class in Mass Effect: they were just soldiers with extra oomph. Sure they couldn't carry as much, or use every weapon, but they could still be effective without using their powers.

I too liked that in DA2, and sad to hear it leave.
