I just don't get what people see in Cullen.
Good looks, a strong performance from Greg Ellis and tragedy.

Josephine.
I've dug Cass sense DA2 I also love the strong female type with a a softer side like Ashley Williams.

He's prettier than most girls.
Well those available for romance anyways, damn you Bioware!
Heh. I almost started this thread. My first playthrough in a DA game is always a chantry moralist templar, and always a spoiler-free run, so I'll be going into it blind and operating on pure roleplay.
I'm picking Cassandra in the end, for the simple reason that the previous incarnations of this world state were a Cousland who married King Alistair, and a Hawke who romanced Prince Sebastian of Starkhaven. Cassandra is of the Pentagast clan in Nevarra, and her distant cousin the king and his brother have no heirs. Someone in the family is going to inherit that throne, so I wanted to see if I can get my character can get a hat trick of royal romances ![]()
(My Hawke will rule the ree Marches, my Tevelyan will rule Nevarra, and my Cousland will rule Ferelden. Then we can just take Orlais by force!
)
Hopefully, having two templars in a party won't be a problem.
My suggestion is to go with the gender you prefer playing and let that determine the direction. Then just stay open to the various companions accessible to that gender. You may think Cullen or Cassandra but find you prefer another's personality. I'm strongly leaning toward Sera, but am definitely open to Josephine (who's looking damn fine in the latest PC gameplay feed.) If you're a hardcore fan like so many of us impatiently obsessing as we wait for the release you'll do a multitude of playthroughs and romances anyway.
Will Cullen be willing to fail into my dashing personality and fall victim to my charms if i am a female mage? Or is he past of this stupid order that templars cant love mages??
Well since there isn't any class restrictions when it comes to romance, you can romance him with a mage.
I think the Cullen romance will be better with a mage, the arc would be pretty good for his character development.
As for Cass.. She looks amazing, and I'm planning a male inquisitor just for her.. ![]()

I'll probably will never get what people see in Cullen. Except for his pretty face.
Great story.
I think you should play the character (meaning the male or female mage that you want to roll) that you connect the most to, and go from there. You can always play another time as the other character and romance Cullen/Cassandra on the second play through.
Heck, I plan on making a character for all the romanceables. So that's a lot of play throughs!
There is so much more behind Cullen's looks. I think he would make a great story

I agree, people keep focusing on his face, but he has a nice behind also.
Cassandra if I had to choose between her and Cullen, but my first romance will be Dorian because of his personality, his voice, his looks.

Templar who now has some doubts where his loyalty lies.
Meh.
I must say I was curious about his character development but seeing him in the latest video killed that interest once again because he won't shut up about the templars even now.
Cass somehow (for now)'s more promising in that matter.
But, I understand some people like this and like him, so no offence intended.

Dragon Age: Game of Superlative Butts.
That being said, Helios, who said that the wisest course of action is probably to focus on making a fun inquisitor and then just let whatever happens, happen, without stressing too much, is probably the guru of the forums. That's the course of action I'd suggest. While we do have more hints as to how Cassandra and Cullen will act in the game than some, they may both surprise you, or one of the outliers might win your heart.
I vote against planning. >>
Cassandra
My first romance, if I choose to do one in my first playthrough, will be Josephine
