So today the final issue in the miniseries Death of Wolverine dropped, killing off the character...obviously.

I'll include his passing in this spoiler tag.

Spoiler

Now, this seems very definitive. But let's not forget that time Captain America got shot, died, then came back after an extended weekend.

Or that time Doomsday punched in Supermans face until Supes di- I mean, fell into a "Kryptonian Healing coma"

Or when Peter Parker died, and Doc Ock became Spider-Man

...Until Peter came back little under a year later.

Hell like 3 months after Damien Wayne kicked the bucket DC's already doing a storyline about bringing him back.

My point is, since this happens so numerously. Should we even care if Marvel or DC decides to off another character? It's not gonna last. It's all a marketing scheme, kill a character, bring 'em back, profit, rinse and repeat. Or just reboot everything so the death never happened. Am I right DC?

Set the clocks for Return of Wolverine when they use Thors hammer to chisel him out of the Adamantium!

I've been saying this since I was a kid.

This is the problem with ongoing stories that don't actually plan out the story or have some idea of where it's going but are still expected to sell weekly. Eventually it just becomes one ass pull after another and people just stop caring. Ratings start to drop? Kill a character. Ratings still keep dropping? Bring them back to life!

Expecting lore consistency and continuity in comic books is just crazy tbh

Irony being when Superman came back, sales plummeted.

Max Landis should make the next Superman movie.

I'd be cool with that.

I liked Chronicle.

And even as a huge Batman fan, this is the fundamental problem with ongoing comics. The neverending narrative is a huge drawback for any sort of narrative tension concerning a character's fate. We saw the same thing with Death of the Family. Pretty damn good story, but disappointing in that we must always go back to the same set up. The only characters who can end up dead usually are introduced in that same story arc.

Might as well post this too.

Yeah I really want to see what a Superman movie done by him is like.

This is why I pretty much only read creator-owned comic books.

You know who still is dead for some reason?

Jean Grey.

The Phoenix.

I just can't understand these business guys and writers.

Only by technicality.

But there is the time travelling Jean from All New X-men.

Yeah but that's not her.

The one fans care about I mean.

I am not even a big fan of her but she is the Phoenix the one character that it would be okay for the most part to bring back. You would also think with the fans she has they would bring her back by now.

I mean for the all nonsense drama they like to make bringing her back means they can do that even more. A love square with Scott, Emma and Wolverine when he comes back. Sh!t like that.

it's just arbitrary the way these comic book business guys and writers do stuff.

No.

You don't understand anything.

Go away.

I know more about Super Heroes than you.

While we are being cynical, why should I take almost any death in fiction(or some real situations) seriously?

The bad guy always has some way to escape, the good guy wins somehow, the blast doors always shut in time, some guy found the hero bleeding out in the nick of time.

Superhero comics(and shonen manga) are just the biggest perpetrators.

Anyway. Made this thread because I'd been thinking about this for a while, and I wanted to get it out in the open.

Well, when Banshee died his daughter wouldn´t grieve cause she assumed he had either not died or would come back anyway (don´t know if he already has, though).

About Jean, I read a rumor Joe Quesada doesn´t like her, so he had her killed, but no idea if it´s real. Would explain why the actual Jean isn´t back, and considering the Spider marriage, it is something he´d do.
