I usually use Isolde to power the ritual to enter the fade.  Jowan and she (and Loghain) were the chief instigators in this perfect sh*tstorm.  Let them pay the price.

I turn Jowan over to The Circle and Loghain gets his at the Landsmeet.

The only time I go the Circle route is on my 'paragon' warden, but always felt it was stupid.  We should have come back to see the castle empty of life and Connor gone.

They should have allowed it only if the player immediately went to the mage tower.  If the dawdled then it should not have worked.

I'd like to think not, but considering ALL quests in DA2 HAD to have a dreary outcome, I think they probably did.

And I'm not a fan of it. I'm personally not a fan of quests where it always ends with "You failed to save someone. No matter what, someone had to die." WE GET IT. Life sucks. Life isn't fair. Life doesn't always have a happy ending. Sometimes you do the best you can and things still go to hell. Sometimes you try your hardest and you still fail to save someone. But you know what? Sometimes things work out too. Sometimes you manage to save people against all odds. I'm so sick of people insisting that every outcome be brutal, dark, dreary, depressing, and hopeless in the name of being "realistic" or showing "negative consequences." (Because golly, I haven't seen that in this video game. Don't have enough of those quests in DAO.) because reality is not ALWAYS terrible all the time.

If every single quest goes to **** - every single quest presents you with "do this and this side gets screwed over, do that and that size gets screwed" outcome and never lets you find a happy medium, then after a while I stop caring. I stop being emotionally invested. I stop worrying about the quests, the people, and the world because I know it's all going to have a terrible outcome anyway. If it's all going to **** anyway, why bother caring? Why bother trying to save anyone?

If YOU want to make sure either Isolde or Connor ends up dead, that's fine. That's your choice. The game gives you the choice.

But you know what? Not everyone wants those choices. So you know what? I'm HAPPY the game gives the option to save more than one person. I wish they'd kept it for the next game. And I hope they bring it back for Inquisition.

I'm not saying I don't like having the option to save everyone. I'm just saying that it seems to me that in this case, it's kinda contrived.

Exactly.  There's just no way that the demon inside Connor would have remained dormant for several days with only Teagan, Jowan, and a few random knights standing guard.  I don't have a problem with the Circle option in theory, but it should have been more in-depth in its execution.  As it stands, the way this option plays out is just too unrealistic.

The choice to allow both Connor and Isolde to live? it just doesn't seem like them to have a "luvvy duvvy" happy ending, there's is really no negative consequences.

Yes and no.

I don't think they regret allowing a choice with no negative consequences, and I don't believe choices should always damn players into a decision between bad outcomes.

However, we know Bioware, or at least David Gaider, regrets making that 'no negative consequence' choice too easy to obtain. He admitted he was afraid of fan reactions if players went straight to Redcliffe and were forced into a choice where someone has to die (Isolde or Connor). This is why it's possible in DA:O to get to that decision point in Redcliffe, and then suddenly be allowed to go all the way to the Circle Tower and come back.

He said this after plenty of players commented on it feeling odd, even disappointing, that they could detour to the Tower then come back, only to find possessed!Connor wouldn't have done anything in the mean time.
