I was told about how Windows 8 sucks and that the Wi FI connectivity has problems.

http://www.tomshardw...nfig,25555.html

I don't know if it has been fixed yet but I have been meaning to buy a system to play the game. Problem is, Almost all computers I can find have WIndows 8. ( You think there be some with windows 7, especially with all the criticisms on Win 8).

Still is it that bad as everyone say its to be? Anyone with windows 8 having problems playing on mass effect 3 multiplayer (Using wi-fi)? Has there been a fix for the problem as of now?

EDIT: Does the classic shell program  resolve the wi fi issues windows 8 have? I know it does it for User Interface but I'm not concerend about that.

I think you can get a downgrade if you buy windows 7 and go through a bunch of hoops to get it working.

I can't imagine it's hard to find even a prebuilt PC retailer that won't let you choose which OS (or if any at all) to take with your order. Extend your search, there have to be shops that allow it.

Also, for gaming, WiFi is bad, you want to plug your PC straight to your router via LAN cable for that kind. WiFi is a handy gimmick for everyday PC stuff, but beyond that, it's disdvantagous if you want a stable connection for streaming large quantities of data continously with minimal loss (like with online gaming).

Disappointing  but fair enough. But do you think it should be fine if I want to import my Dragon age keep world state into inquisition and download dlc?

Its also worth noting that I plan to use my schools wi fi as well and hold up very well as far as I know. I actually played some online games on my Ipad using wi fi and it actually worked fine. Don;t know how that compare to pc though.

I think you're only talking about the WiFi thing now, correct?

If so, WiFi is not bad internet. It's simply less stable than a hardwired connection. Signal loss and signal interference from other WiFi sources is what makes it finicky. It doesn't mean much in most cases and is even servicable in online gaming, but there's still the chance it will hiccup when you least need it, a risk that can be eliminated by going wired.

Your whole reasoning for being wary of Windows 8 is an article that's 10 months old?

Honestly, I've had far less problems with Windows 8/8.1 then I ever did with Windows 7. I've never run across any Wi-Fi issues with Windows 8, and all of our machines at work (roughly 275 laptops) and my home machines run Windows 8.1.

Some people do travel a lot and making a PC would be pointless in their case. I'm getting annoyed with people just spouting off "MAEK A PC!! BUY A PC!!" Some people either a) can't afford it B) have no use for a non-transportable computer.

Have a new system with 8.1, you just need to make sure your wifi receiver is compatible with Windows 8.1.  As for streaming issues, I picked up a dual and router and USB receiver and now stream on 5ghz.  I can now stream HD without the video stuttering like it did on 2.4ghz.  I did notice a little drop out when I was downloading the latest SWOTOR patch.  So this weekend I am going to play with my router channels and set-up streaming priorities.  That should help with the drop.  The kicker is that I have to be plugged into the router by ethernet to make these changes.  So, I now need to buy a cable long enough to reach from my living room to the office to execute the set-up.  What a pain.

Edit:  There is also a way to manually adjust your current wifi settings to work with 8.1.  Just do a search.  There are a couple of really good articles discussing the "how to's" on this.

I have the MSI GE60 Apache Pro with Win 8.1 and have no trouble whatsoever with the WiFi. I do make sure that my drivers are current.

Can you eplain why the "hoops"? I thiught you can just buy the windows 7 software, install it, and bam, done, problem solved.

It's something you can do with some quick internet research. This is the problem and solution I had after upgrading from Win7 to 8 back in early 2013: http://www.thewindow...ted-after-sleep.

It's been a while since the problem was first being reported. I doubt the issue is still going on with new laptops. And I don't see many recent forum posts on Tom's Hardware or other such websites asking for help on the issue. I honestly think you'll be safe if you buy a Win8 laptop.
