I knew my humble rig wouldn't be able to run it before the specs were even released. There's a strange peace in accepting that.
For a brief moment, I understood the Qun.

So I'm looking to see if I should pick up the game on my PS4 or my laptop. Here's what I'm running on my laptop:
- Intel Core i7-4700HQ 2.4 GHz, 3.2 to 3.4 GHz Turbo Boost
- 12 GB DDR3L SDRAM
- 1024 GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
- 17.3-Inch Screen; NVIDIA Geforce GTX860M with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM
- Windows 8.1
So will this put me on par or better than my PS4, or should I just go the console route?

I will likely need to buy something but I would still like to know which I should buy first; the vid card or CPU or are they bothy so bad that I need to get both?
If your 6 year old CPU is anything to go by, your entire computer is a bit too old to do anything these days.
Your CPU is socket LGA775 which means your motherboard is incompatible with the current Intel i-series or AMD FX series.
Your GPU is not going to cut it either.
I don't know your RAM specifications, you'll have to check it is DDR3 and that its speed is compatible with any potential new motherboard.
Since you are now adding new components which may require a higher power draw, you might also require a new PSU.
I'm not sure what type of case you have but if it doesn't have adequate airflow, you may run into temperature problems depending on which CPU and GPU you put into any potential upgrade.
Sorry to be bearer of bad news but for all intents and purposes, you are getting an entirely new computer if you want to run Frostbite 3. But it is 6 years old...

Complete GPU List for BF4
Here is a comparison of BF4 performance for most graphics cards currently on the market, including laptop GPUs.
How to use it:
Scroll down, find your GPU on the list and it will give you an idea of how well it runs BF4. As BF4 uses the same engine and has very similar recommended specs, performance for Dragon Age: Inquisition should be similar.
This list shows which GPUs can run BF4 from 1280x720 and up:
Spoiler
If you have very low end GPU, here is another list. These are super low end, not likely to be able to run the game even at 1280x720.
Spoiler
I vote that this get pinned immediately! Super useful this!

Yeah I had my eyes on a new monitor (because it seems silly to keep my old one now >_> ) and I'd like to know that too XD I think they said the framerate was limited by your setup in the latest twitch stream tho.

I think that's probably better than a PS4, but it's difficult to say with mobile GPUs. I'll have to find some benchmarks.
Edit: BF4 gameplay is smooth. https://www.youtube....h?v=Jfz-wKh_CW8

Yeah me too, I was eyeing up a 144 Hz monitor ![]()
But so far I've only seen a limit of 60 fps in the menu options during the PC twitch stream.
I hope it is like the new Borderlands, it lets you choose whether to have a cap or just let it go as high as possible.

thanks for that list!
Looks like the laptop I wanted I wont be getting since the Geoforce GTX 770M is so far down the list. 60 fps, low settings.

I'd say 60fps low settings is not bad for BF4! But if you are currently shopping for a new gaming laptop, try to find something with the 980m or 970m. These are much more powerful than 700 and 800 series but run cooler, drawing less power.
The 980m is faster than 99% of desktop GPUs and I've seen a few laptops with this card starting around $1700. Laptops with 970m around $1300.

I don't see why not Frostbite does not limit your FPS.

Does Vista have 64-bit? (I'm not actually sure it did) If so, it might? Certainly no guarantee it would run well.
It does. It was the first windows os to properly do it
Yep, mine's 64-bits as well.
Not gonna happen unfortunately. My old laptop had that same card, and it wouldn't even run the BF3 or BF4 betas. You wouldn't get a playable frame rate, I could barely get one in the original Borderlands.
This one is pretty borderline. Based on benchmarks I'd guess low at 720p will get you around 30 FPS with drops.
Sounds like it's time for a new system then. Good thing I've been looking around since those system requirements got posted. ![]()
Thanks folks!

If your mobo can take it I would start with that CPU first. You need a quadcore so an i-5 is minimum and an i-7 even better. Then you can see about the GPU. Also pay attention to OS (64bit is a must) and PSU.
I'd upgrade your ram to 8GB or 16 if you can too.
Yeah its old sadly; I did upgrade the PSU and GPU about 2-3 years ago so I could play DA2. Sadly if memory serves I'm maxed out for RAM I think. I was hoping to bypass windows 8 before I got a new system I'm not really a fan of 8 or 8.1
So there is no chance of it running at all even if its at the lowest settings?

Can we exceed 60 fps?
Pretty much only console ports will limit fps on a pc. DAI isn't a console port, so you should be able to. Just remember, doubling frame rates doubles the number of calculations your gnu has to do, so running at 120Hz at max settings is likely only possible with the most advanced/expensive GPU/CPU possible. 120Hz at 1080p with reasonable settings should be doable.
Also remember that your monitor is likely more of a bottleneck, as the vast majority of TVs and computer monitors can only refresh at a 60Hz rate.

Hmm. I have a Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40 GHz (Unlocked CPU) with a 660ti and was thinking of upgrading to a 970 card within the next 5 months. Is this a bad idea?

Meh I have a i5 2500k with a 970 and it's working fine for me.
I have a 2550k (overlocked to 4.6 GHz) and run two 970s with no bottlenecking.

I don't think that set-up you have will run the game, sadly. I mean it might run it but if it does you won't want it to. I think you're better off getting a new rig for this game and for what's coming up in the next 4 years. I got mine a year and a half ago from Digital Storm and it's handled everything thrown at it and the good thing is that unlike prefab things from say Dell or HP it's a big case so I can upgrade pretty much any item without fear of size of card or warranty for that matter. But hunt around. There are some good deals out there especially with the holidays coming!

Great so DAI is just going to be a paper wight for the next year then for me... Its just one thing after another...
Thanks for the help and the suggestion I'll snoop around and see just what I need to save up for *sighs* this year just keeps getting better
NOT!

My laptop is as follows
Intel Core i7 3630QM 2.40 GHz AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB graphics card 8 GB DDR3 1 TB HDD
Should I stick to PC or would the PS4 be better?
