Not on a mantle enabled game like this one, but yeah the card will perform poorly on DX games.

Poorly using a 1980x1080 resolution?
dont think so.
I suspect dai with mantle will run superbly especially on 290 series cards and if shadow of mordor is any indication amd cards do really well as things scale up also.

Today a 280x is still one of the better cards even though my choice would be a 290x as the prices are good for the performance you get.

especially once the resolution goes up.
I game at 5040x1050 so for me amd and Mantle makes a big difference not only with fps but also the smoothness factor.
BF4 the difference between DX and Mantle is with the settings I use 30fps or so in average, both playable but Mantle is just so much better in playing experience.

ShadowOfMordor_4K.png

I suspect dai will have that smoothness factor also.
if one has a low performance cpu then Mantle really is a huge deal.

as long Mantle works properly as BF4 atm with the recent patch added a memleak with Mantle.

So this thread seems like a good place to ask:

My aging laptop is incredibly borderline at best. Sadly, I don't really have the funds to upgrade--even a console would be a stretch. That said, it would be AWESOME if DAI could hobble along on my poor underpowered machine. If someone could tell me whether I have even a remote chance with these specs, that would be lovely.

Windows 7

Processor: Intel Core i5 M 560 @ 2.67GHz

Memory: 6GB RAM

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GT 420M

Again, running it on super shiny max settings is way out the window--I understand that. But at the lowest settings, maybe? *crosses fingers*

at 720p and with AA turned off you should be able to play at high-ultra

Was that with MSAA enabled (deferred AA setting)?

It was with MSAA x4 with deferred setting.

Very nice, sounds like DA:I should be no problem for you in this case.

The 980's are completely sold out everywhere at the moment. The 970's are a good substitute--cheaper--but are also sold out in most places. As for the 8GB, it's possible but you'd be put on a long waiting list well past november 18th, and 8GB is so so so so so so so overkill for any game right now. As it stands you can order a 980 4GB right now and it will probably arrive just in time for the game's release.

If you really want to own the game, buy 2 GTX 970's and put them in SLI mode (google how to SLI video cards, it's easy). You can get two outstanding video cards for the price of one GTX 980--and they'll out perform it by a lot. You'd be able to render Inquisition in ultra high graphics with a high FPS.

This site keeps an updated list of current retailers and their prices, with very reliable models. I personally recommend the GIGABYTE model, since I believe the EVGA 970 ACX model is an exception, having an issue with it's fans. Try looking for a GIGABYTE 970 sold by Newegg.

Oh no I already got my strix. I managed to buy it around a week ago. XD Got to me really quick too even though I paid for the slow shipping.

Hello everyone,

I thank you for starting this thread. I need your assistance please:

Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

RAM: 4.0 GB

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260

Windows 7 64-bit home premium

LG IPS 23 inch monitor 1920 x 1080 resolution

I also took Wulfrem's advice & checked out BF$ videos compatible to my GPU. The videos look good.

I am mainly concerned about my CPU.

Do I have a prayer of running this game on medium settings?

Thanks

Thank you much

Actually, all of your components are pretty much just above the minimum, Neither your GPU or your CPU are really more powerful than each other. You will be able to run the game pretty well, but with mostly medium/low settings at 1080p.

your biggest issues is that your entire system is pretty old, so if you decided to upgrade anything but the RAM, it would probably be a full system rebuild. But with your current system, you should be pretty much fine for the time being.

Hello everyone,

I need your advice; I want to build a new PC from the ground up, but I am on a tight budget. What can I do as economically as possible & still run games in the higher ranges?

Thank you very much

Hey, so I'm asking in here again cause I really need help determining if my computer will be able to play this.

Windows 8.1

6 GB of RAM

Intel Core i3-4005U CPU @ 1.7GHz

AMD Radeon R7 M260 2GB dedicated graphics

I know my CPU is a bit low, but is it possible for me to get by on the lowest settings and my computer on its highest performances?

Thanks in advance.

Damn, so it's absolutely Windows 64-bit only then ?

My system's decent enough otherwise going by those test sites, and it could be upgraded to 64-bit Windows (i5-750, back when I built this Win 64-bit was fairly new and a lot of my games reportedly had issues with it). It'd just be a major PITA having to reinstall everything on my hard drive from scratch again :(

Going to need to have a serious think about that, DAI looks like it could be worth it and more upcoming games may well be 64-bit required going forward anyway.

As others have mentioned, you could give the W10 preview a shot.

I was able to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 and keep all my files (on my older comp mind).

I'm not sure why upgrading from 32bit to 64 would have you lose your files when I safely went from windows version to windows version.

Edit: Ugh read the MS forums now I see. Odd. That's kind of messed up =/

Did you partition your hard drive? If so, you could just dual boot Win 7 and Win 10 preview.

Unfortunately not, had reasons for that back then too. Good thought though, thanks.

Hey, been thinking about buying it on either pc or xbone, whereas I'm still concerned about how smooth it can run on my pc while retaining at least the same look the xbone has.

My specs are:

CPU:     Intel i7 960 @ 3.2ghz, 4 cores (think its a gen 2 chip, if i recall correctly)

RAM:     16gb DDR3

GPU:     two GTX 580 in SLI

VRAM:   3gb on each card

DisplayResolution: 1920px1080p

I've fiddled around a bit with Battlefield 4 (which also runs off Frostbite 3) and I can push all settings to high, some even to ultra as long as i keep aa at 2x and dont use HBAO.

This nets me in most cases stable 40fps, which i consider good/playable. I could lower all settings to high and would go for 50-60fps if I wished.

Is this comparable? At least, in someway? I've compared the recommended specs for BF4 and DA:I and they are roughly the same, with DA:I only recommending 2gb of vram instead of 3gb for BF4. But I also know that DA:I has a lot of computations BF4 does not have, while I am not sure what new post-processing effects have been added by bioware engineers and other possible changes to the engine. What are your thoughts on this?

Regards.

p.s.: I know, my rig is a bit "old", but I can't afford a new one at the moment ^^

I don't quite understand, you are actually worried you wouldn't achieve same settings as Xbox One (1600x900 30fps no MSAA) with your 580 SLI?

As far as we can guess, your performance in DA:I should be similar to BF4. 2xMSAA results in a big hit, have you tried forcing a different type of AA from Nvidia Inspector if you want higher frame rate?

Question:

Is free hard drive space as important on an SSD as with a normal disc?

I dont know technical stuff much but my friend told me one should always have atleast 20% space free on a hard drive (Reason: Dont know)
My SSD is only 120GB, I have 77GB free. With DA:I installed on it (that and windows) I have about 45GIG free. Will this cause any performance issues?

Im not sure why free space is needed on a hard drive and if this also applies to SSD.

In advance, thanks for any info on this! :)

So, I have been thinking on getting some info from more teck savvy people about the state of my laptop and just how well (or not good) I can run Inquisition on it!

So without further ado here are my specs:

I have a Lenovo Ideapad y500 with

Intel core i7-3630QM @ 2.40 GHz

8 GB of RAM

and SLI GeForce Gt650M

Display resolution is normally at 1920x1080

So how is my laptop going to handle Inquisition? Ideally I'd want to be able to play at med-high settings, will that be possible?

Thanks to any input in advance, it is very much appreciated!

It's for caching when Windows run out of RAM, I'd imagine. Although my tech knowledge in this area is out of date.

SSDs have an entirely separate issue that is to do with rotating the write cycles to prolong the lifespan of the drive. But even then it's not terribly important for a normal user.

Unfortunately, you're pretty much looking at a complete rebuild. Also, Alienware cases (like any proprietary case) don't really play nicely with a custom rebuild. What kind of budget are you looking at?

Edit: Threw this together, it should play Inquisition on high. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BCztNG

My current laptop is a little below the recommended system requirements, but I will buy a new one soon that should have no problems running the game even on the highest settings:

CPU: Processor Intel® Core™ i7-3940XM Processor Extreme Edition
(8M Cache, 3 GHz up to 3.90 GHz)

RAM: 4 x 8 GB, DDR3, 1600 MHz

GPU: NVIDIA® Quadro® K4000M, 4 GB (GDDR5 VRAM)

Depends on the manufacture and what methods they using for reading and writing onto a SSD, but yes it can slow the SSD down as you get closer to filling it up. With that much space left I don't believe you're going to run into performance issues.
