Hey all, thanks for this thread. I ran my computer at http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/ and it said everything was fine except my video card. My video card surpasses the minimum slightly or so the site shows. I am wondering if it is just the website being wrong or if there is an issue with my card that anyone knows about. Thank you for any assistance.

Specs:

Windows 7 64 bit

Intel Core i5 3450 @ 3.10GHz

AMD Radeon HD 6670

16gb Ram

The HD 6670 pulls slightly ahead of the HD 4870 when you compare the two cards. Biggest HD 4870 advantage would be the higher memory bandwidths, memory bus, and pixel rates are doubled compared to the HD 6670.

So, I shouldn't worry too much about it at this time unless it gives me trouble while playing. I am not worried about playing on high or ultra. Thanks for the info.

It may slow down a bit in places where there is a lot of action

You may see something like low/medium settings at best out of it.

Unfortunately, you're pretty much looking at a complete rebuild. Also, Alienware cases (like any proprietary case) don't really play nicely with a custom rebuild. What kind of budget are you looking at?

Edit: Threw this together, it should play Inquisition on high. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BCztNG

Thank you so much.  I've saved this and will have to buy a little at a time.  Planning on Moving to another state, so will not be able to buy for several months.  I'm not happy because I've been a big Dragon Age fan.  This system played all the others just fine.  I knew my system was out of date but was hoping it would last just a couple more years.  I really appreciate you taking the time to put it together for me.

So I've really been playing around with what to do with my (first) PC build. I'm still debating parts. Based on some feedback in OT, it's looking like something like this will work out well (though I haven't gotten PC parts picker to find the memory that I want). Seeing as I barely know WTF I'm embarking on, I would love feedback, esp. on whether or not I'll have hardware compatibility nightmares. I haven't added up the power draw, so that's a thing too.

I'd recommend a bigger PSU, at least 750w.

What about the SeaSonic X Series 1050W or the Corsair Professional 1050W? I don't know very much about PSU quality other than I've heard that SeaSonic is very good quality.

Good luck with it (and with your move)!

I second TheDarkShape. You're looking at a great system, do not skimp on the power supply, everything else relies on it. Also, you'd be capable of putting another 970 in SLI in the future, if you'd like. Pcpartpicker should add up the wattage for you, it hides near the edge of the screen.

You might consider budgeting for a 7200 rpm hard drive to store documents/ downloads/ save games etc on, and keep the ssd for OS, drivers, program files, and your favorite games, especially if you'll use the PC for non-gaming stuff. It's amazing how fast programs eat that space these days. You've picked a great motherboard (I have the AMD version), but can't tell what memory you've got, it links to the Bioware forum.

Solid build, overall.  B)

Edit: SeaSonic and Corsair are good makes, depending on the model (apparently SeaSonic manufactures quite a few for other brands, as well). EVGA also makes some very nice PSUs. http://www.evga.com/...=120-G2-1000-XR is what I have in mine.

Just got back here, and I'm about to buy a new PC by the next week. I spend sometimes researching more for the good specs so I hope I can run on ultra with good fps. Could anyone here please tell me how it would perform, and any advice is always welcome. Thanks, guys. I really appreciate the help! :D

CPU: Intel® Haswell i7-4790K 4.40GHz

CPU Cooler:  Corsair Hydro Series™ H100i

Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VII RANGER

bit overkill IMO.

a 970 or such is enough if one asks me.

Pretty sure I'll have no problems running this even with my 3-4 year old rig.

i5 2500k OC @ 4.7 Ghz stable for 3 years on air cooling

8GB DDR 3 1600Mhz upgrading to 16 GB or 32 GB

GTX 580 1.5 GB  upgrading to GTX 980 4GB might wait for them to make the 8GB version available lol

Win 7 64 bit home premium

Only thing i'm short of in Vram on my GPU as it's only 1.5 GB not 2 GB but as i've been able to run every game since I built this rig on max settings at 1920x1080 I'm pretty sure i'll manage DAI with a pretty good FPS. Once I upgrade the ram and GPU i'll get at least another 3-4 years out of my rig at max settings unless I melt my CPU lol

Why would you upgrade your RAM to 16 or even 32 GB? Everything above 8GB basically falls under the category of diminishing returns if you only use your PC for playing games and normal spare time stuff. Assuming you're not using a Dual-screen setup, you won't notice any difference while gaming.

And I really wouldn't recommend a 980 to anyone at the moment. As far as "performance per dollar" goes, the GTX 970 is always a considerably better choice. The performance gain is not worth the difference in prices, imo.

Future proofing is the main reason but the newer high end GPUs work better with at least 16 GB ram, the GTX 980's will drop in price as soon as the new ATI cards come out as they will be fighting for a market share and will be priced very aggressively as Nvidia have there Maxwell cards out already.

Also the 970 is just a cheaper version of the card and was made that way to be cheap for any one wishing to replace 550's - 650 Ti's the 980 is would be the next progression for me personally I was looking at a 780 as a direct replacement but now i can get a 980 for the same price it's a no brainer for me.

No, they really don't. Click

Modern games simply never use more than 8GB. 16GB is for multi-tasking.

That's just complete bollocks. The 980 offers a 10-15% performance boost while costing 50-60% more. You might as well SLI and get two 970s.

Ultimately it's your choice, it's just a really bad investment imo.

cards that support Mantle should add some efficiency.

since dai has Mantle support you gain some min fps benefits.

depends what kind of demands one have.

Normally I would look for a used card, many sell off to buy something new.

a 280x or such are decently priced nowadays and are 3gb cards.

How risky is it to attempt to run an R9270X with a 460w PSU?

I've seen some different opinions on this from different forums, and it's a bit confusing.

This is the computer I'm currently using that has the 460w PSU...

My current laptop is a little below the recommended system requirements, but I will buy a new one soon that should have no problems running the game even on the highest settings:

CPU: Processor Intel® Core™ i7-3940XM Processor Extreme Edition
(8M Cache, 3 GHz up to 3.90 GHz)

RAM: 4 x 8 GB, DDR3, 1600 MHz

GPU: NVIDIA® Quadro® K4000M, 4 GB (GDDR5 VRAM)

Interesting setup, but that much memory, and the workstation GPU has me wondering: Is gaming your primary concern here, or are you doing heavy graphics work on it? For gaming, you can find better and probably a lot cheaper too.

Agreed. The 970 is almost as good, and has a much, much, much better price to performance ratio. Apparently they SLI pretty well, too. I would definitely get a pair of 970s before I got a single 980.

What kind of PSU? A quality one should be able to handle it as long as you don't overclock. If it's a no-name PSU that's not 80 PLUS certified, it won't be enough.

Yep. Much more cost-efficient and two 970s eat a single 980 alive.

No problem. If you're still unsure after checking the PSU, just let me know.

So I'm about to order parts for my new rig.

i7-4790K

GeForce GTX 760

The only thing I haven't decided is whether to get 8 or 16 GB of RAM.  I want to run DAI on Ultra.  Would 16 GB of RAM have any difference over 8?  Might have a few programs (Photoshop, etc.) open but generally not since this would primarily be a gaming machine.
