It seems that i will need to buy PC instead PS4 (my old friend is slowly dying :( ).

So i have a question, what should i buy?

FX-8320

8GB Ram (1600)

R9 270 OC (2 GB)

or

FX-8320

4GB Ram (1600)

R9 280 OC (3GB)

I would like to play at least on high setting without AA, my screen resolution is 900P.

P.S I could upgrade my RAM in the next year, since my budget these days is pretty bad, so i would like to know what should i do. Oh and also, i'm sure many of you ask "Why no intel?", my answer is price, FX-8320 is $35 than i5-4440 (which is a lot for me). Thanks for the help! :)

I would go with more VRAM so the R9 280. If you can cough up a bit more dollars I'd just go with the R9 280x instead. With the R9 280 you should be able to go 1080p with AA without any trouble that is if you had a monitor that did 1080p.

You can also scale the resolution down ingame as well for the same gains, so you can keep your desktop res where you want.

I forgot about the renderer built in scaling in frostbite.

Yeah, that's the way to go over lowering the resolution wholesale in the options. This way your UI stays nice and sharp and only the 3D scene is rendered at a lower rez.

But yeah, by lowering the resolution (internal or of everything in the options) will improve your performance.

I know my CPU and memory are okay. I'm pretty ignorant about graphics cards, but from my searching it looks okay too?

Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920  @ 2.67GHz
Memory: 8 GB
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5

Thanks!

Should be OK.  Maybe medium, 1080p.  At least I hope so, the GPU is what I've got, though you've got better other stuff.

I see, thanks for the answer :) Sadly, but even if i would like to spend more money on my rig i just simply can't (life issues), and even if i buy this computer i still spend more than i should (~$100 more, so yeah :( ).

Just wanna say I like these PC threads.

Just out of Curiosity Barrett, have you guys tested the game at all on intel HD integrated graphics?

Not sure, I suspect we haven't (mostly desktop PC build testing). The catlab/compatibility testing teams might've, but I'm not aware.

Higher end mobile integrated graphics are not too bad, similar to 750m.

There are videos of people actually running BF4 on an Intel HD. I was flabbergasted that it even works. As you can imagine every setting was on ultra-low, and there was resolution downscaling too. Yes it looked really bad, but he was getting like 90+ FPS. The guy had a hefty i7-3770 as the CPU though.

Since the moderation approval system for first posters made my question sink like a stone, I shamelessly repost it on the current page:

Well, I know that my bits & pieces PC can run DA:I, but I am not sure if it will be sufficient for 1080p on ultra details...

i5-2500 @3.30 GHz

EVGA GTX 770SC, 2GB

8GB Ram

I suppose I might have to turn down the maximum settings (which I would hate), with CPU and VRAM probably being my bottlenecks.

Or am I overestimating the requirements of DA:I?

I've been holding off on getting a new gpu until I can afford a great one but I'm afraid I might have to bite the bullet and get a smaller upgrade. What do you think?

i5-2400 @3.1Ghz
Gtx 550 Ti
8Gb RAM

I guess I might have to upgrade my CPU soon too.

CPU aside you will struggle with a 550ti.. not at all capable to play this with any reasonable quality. For not much you could upgrade to get a 750ti, also underpowered but still better. If you're looking for even better, the amd cards are going down in price now after the Nvidia 9 series was released.

Depends what you consider reasonable quality, but a 550ti is well within the minimum requirements.

Is a 750 ti really underpowered if you have a powerful processor and plenty of ram?  I mentioned earlier I have an i7-3820 3.6 Ghz and 12 GB of RAM.  Currently looking at a 750 ti upgrade.  Definitely wanting 1080P with high settings.  Guess I'd spend more than what a 750 ti costs if I had to... ^_^

550ti will probably not be enough to handle high settings in 1080p - it's quite seriously below recommended GTX 660.

It will run the game for sure though, but probably on medium settings and toned down AA.

Yes, underpowered.

Your CPU and Ram are great for physics based stuff, but for the actual graphics and loading the game world and textures, the 750ti won't be able to play at 1080p with high settings with a great framerate. If you're fine playing at 1080p with 25fps, then sure it will be fine.

@ battlefield 4 Ultra settings 1080p, the 750ti gets ~35fps - Metro Last Light - 30.

So, underwhelming, imo.

Any suggestions on cards in the $200-$300 range or is it looking like I'd need to shell out even more than that?  My power supply is 460W, btw.

Ah just saw you mentioned looking at the AMD cards that are going down in price currently B)

I think you're fine for high settings and possibly some ultra ones at around 50-60 FPS 1080p.

I actually upgraded a few of my components just so I can get a smooth 60fps at 2560x1440 in Inquisition.

My specs:

Intel i5 Core 2550k @ 4.6GHz

16GB DDR3 1800MHz RAM

2x EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC 4GB

As mentioned a 750ti would be a nice upgrade. That should put you on about PS4 level of quality, maybe a little bit better or at a higher FPS. That 550ti will probably handle medium with some low settings at a solid 30 FPS or a bit more.

Yep, the 750ti should get you at about PS4 graphics and performance levels. If you want more yeah, you'll need to spend more. My advice would be to splurge a bit and get a GTX 970 for $330. It's an amazing performance value and will handle games for the rest of the gen at 1080p. My friend does well in most games (60 FPS or more) at even 1440p with that card.

I'm also running at 1440p, but with a 780ti, he gets fairly close to my performance level for like $250 less that what I paid :(

Damn, forget 1440p. Those babies could easily drive one of those new 3K ultra wide 21:9 34 inch monitors :)

That's my next upgrade in hopefully a year. One of those babies but with G-Sync support.

I'm seconding the suggestion to spend a tiny bit more for the 970.  At 1080p that card will max games without breaking a sweat.

Thanks for the insight everyone! I think for now I will wait and see how the game plays and whether I am satisfied with medium settings or not. I really would like to wait until I can splurge for a high end card rather than settle for a card only slightly better than my current one.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help.
