Time to end my lurking streak for this awesome thread! I would love some help upgrading my mid range pc in order to run DA:I on ultra.

My current specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k @ 3.30 ghz

GPU: Geforce GTX 560ti 1024 dedicated video memory

RAM: 8gb

Resolution: 1920x1080

So the obvious answer is that I will need to upgrade my video card. My question is, is everything else good enough or should I look into upgrading other components as well? I've also seen a few people in this thread mention power supply. Will this effect the upgrades I can make? How do I find out what my power supply is and is there a way of calculating how much power supply I will need?

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers my questions :)

The only thing i would upgrade is the GPU and maybe the power supply unit (You can open the side of your PC to check, just make sure your PC is turned off and you don't touch it): The psu is optional if you already have a good one.

Video Card: AMD 280x http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814121803 $260

or a Nvidia 970 gtx (its a better card) ($330 - $360 if you can find it in stock somewhere as its pretty much sold out). it beats the 280x by 30-40% which makes it worth every cent. 4gb vram should see it through next 3 years easily. http://www.amazon.co.../dp/B00NT9UUGI/ $360

Power Supply:  Seasonic 650w http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817151118 $99 can pretty much run any GPU and has 5 year warranty.

Greetings to everyone in Thedas. Things are a mess. The templars mages meeting is getting near!  I would be grateful if someone could give me a 2nd opinion on the specs below.

Laptop

CPU: Intel Quad Core I5 3230  2.6 ghz

GPU: GeForce 740M 2 gb ram.

RAM: 6 GB DDR 3

Resolution: 1368 X 768

I know I can play it on minimum settings. What I 'm looking  for here, is information on whether I can try settings (and which) for better quality!

Thanks in advance and thumbs up to the OP's idea.

Graphics settings options in BF4 are almost the same as BF3. Inquisition will have somewhat different settings, but you can get an idea here of which ones slow down your frame rate the most, such as resolution setting and MSAA. A lot of people just select the preset like Medium, High, etc., but when you tweak them individually, most of these settings actually have little impact on frame rate. Huge difference going from 0xMSAA to 4xMSAA however.

Hi! I'm a total noob so if anyone could help me out it would mean a lot. Here are my specs:

Intel Core i5-3570 3.40GHz
6 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650
Graphics memory: 3815 MB
Dedicated video memory: 1024 MB
Shared memory: 2791 MB

I think I'm close to the recommended specs but I wonder what settings could I run? My screen is still a bit old fashioned though. I always preferred squared screens so my resolution is 1280x1024. And I'm not sure where my CPU stands because I know nothing about such things. Please let me know.

Yeah, you won't have any problems running everything on ultra 1080p

Thought so. I can crank up Metro Last Light without any problems, and I've heard that eats most computers for breakfast. I just haven't really stressed it much yet beyond that.

I don't see why not considering the lower resolution size the monitor puts out.

Considering you're playing on a 1280x1024 I believe it's safe to say you shouldn't have issues running this game. You should really consider going with higher resolutions. More peripheral vision, the extra pixel count like 2,073,600 that 1080p has vs 1,310,720 that your monitor displays means that much more in detail on the game.

When I bought this pc I actually bought a new screen as well, but I'm really not a fan of wide screens so I returned it and kept my old one (it's a Samsung SyncMaster 173S, by the way). I'm not an hardcore gamer so I never really bothered. But is there really a big difference between 720p and 1080p? Instead of playing on 1280x1024 I could choose 1280x720 and it will be as wide as 1920x1080 but the quality won't be the same, is that it?

And at 720p do you think I can play with the ultra settings?

Only thing I'm waiting on now for my new build is for Amazon to finally ship my GTX 980. I went with EVGA's stock 980 because I'll just OC it to their SC 980 and they support overclocks on their warranty anyway.

Should be able to get into the high range with these specs, right?

Also, any word on the bonus content that the Deluxe Edition is supposed to get?

You can also scale the resolution down ingame as well for the same gains, so you can keep your desktop res where you want.

Forgot BF4 had that option, loved it, allowed me to have a clean looking interface with the gains of a lower res, yay.  :)

Will I need to set everything to the lowest settings to get a good performance out of the game?

I enjoy good graphics but the story is the most important thing (I played & adored DA:O on the lowest settings on my old rig, when I got this computer & played Awakening on it, eye colours were a revelation ;p).

CPU: intel core i7-3630QM @2.40GHz

GPU: Nividia GeForce 660m

RAM: 12G

It will run at 1080p, not highest settings, just tweak until you find the balance of frame rate and visuals you prefer. Some settings don't really affect frame rate much, but MSAA and ambient occlusion will slow it down. Will be faster if you drop down to 900p.

@ I creep around

Well there my friend you are certainly already on top of your details! Aside from the benefit of a GPU upgrade, your other specs. are going to give you a perfectly enjoyable gaming experience at the med to high settings range, barring whatever tweaks you see fit to give you the best outcome. Now, in addressing power supply, you absolutely want to make sure you have a power supply that will meet the needs of your new GPU, nearly any OEM supply will NOT meet the needs of any of the newer GPUs specs. So a good rule is to 1) Verify your current power supply 2) check what the new GPU will need 3) meet or exceed that need to ensure you have no problems

Not sure if you can do it with ultra since it's loading in textures. I don't believe 1GB of VRAM will cut it maybe setting it and custom and fine tuning it might.

As for big difference between 720p and 1080p well first off you're using 720p which is 16:9 aspect ratio. Your monitor is formatted to be 5:4 so you should be getting black bars on it right? A 16:9 monitor won't give you black bars.

Even if you are not a hardcore gamer, there is plenty of reasons to get something other than your square monitor. Like more desktop real estate to put windows side by side:

Here is another image where it is scaled exactly what my monitor sees compared to your monitor's resolutions. My monitor's resolution is 2560x1440 and I put in the 1080p for reference. You may have to scroll a bit to see all of it.

I've always suffered from "shadow blindness" in games. Meaning, I can barely notice or care if shadows are on or off. Therefore no shadows in games is for me a free FPS increase as I dont care about it.

Anyway my question is - if BF4 is a solid game req comparison to measure DA:I with, does anyone know if taking shadows off in DA:I will give me a:

A) Slight fps increase?
B )Moderate fps increase?
C) Heavy fps increase?

I have an i5-3570k at stock speed (3.4GHz to 3.9GHz turbo) with 8GB ram and a HD7870 so match recommended settings but recommended also says 3GB GPU ram and my HD7870 only has 2GB.

As these match Battlefield 4 recommended settings and I get 25 to 55 FPS on Ultra in BF4 so I should be ok.

If you scroll up at the top of this page there is a link to tweak guide and a few graphs showing how framerate is affected by various settings in BF3, including shadows.

They actually amended it to 2GB GPU ram. They said the original 3GB was an error.

So my turn to ask :)

CPU: i7-4770K @ 3.50 Ghz

RAM: 16GB

GPU: Sapphire HD 7950 3GB DDR5 with boost

The only thing I'm really worried about is the GPU.

Think its time developers start releasing minimum and recommended laptop specs as well

Could really use some help here

CPU - i7 4500U (Its only a dual core but with hyperthreading)

RAM - 8GB

GPU - AMD 8850M 2GB DDR5

Screen Resolution - 1366*768

I'm hoping to be able to play on medium at least.

Barrett actually fessed up to that 3GB being a typo, it's 2. So you should be cool.

i5-4460 CPU, R7260X GPU and 4 gig ram. I'm leery about the ram, I could've sworn I had 3 gig extra but that might've been part of the motherboard that I got replaced I guess. The GPU too wasn't my first choice but one must make due. So I figure I'll be able to run it (I hope, since DAI played a large part in finally getting my schlocky relic upgraded) but at what settings?

Sapphire R9 290X 4GB

I know I'll be able run DA:I, and at a reasonable level, but if I upgrade the RAM to 16GB, is that going to provide a meaningful advantage over 8GB? I know it does for ordinary PC software, but not sure on gaming. Don't want to upgrade my MB or CPU.

I'd say no real advantage unless you're running an excessive amount of background tasks while playing. And we're talking gaming + fraps + video editor levels here, not just leaving your antivirus on.

Actually at that resolution I think you could start on medium and tweak from there. Look for BF4 tweak guides to see what gives the biggest performances boosts and go from there (stuff like MSAA is a big one, dial that down, probably).
