Any hookup is fine to me as long as it doesn’t have Leliana on it. DA: O jealousy aside I believe making her hook up with someone would be contradictory to the explanation the writers gave on why she is not romanceable: To not upset those who potentially romanced her… “the protagonist can’t romance her because she was previously a romance option in Origins and making her a romace here too would be a kick to the nut to those who romanced her, but know what? She can hook up with a companion and get some love.” Lolwutt? How is the second case not a “kick to the nut” as well? Not sure if I made much sense and by the looks of this thread this is likely not a popular instance on this matter but there it is.

Not a huge fan of any of the rivalry romances. I guess Isabela and Fenris' weren't as bad compared to Merrill (which was awful) and Anders' ones though. But I'm not keen on any of them, it really doesn't seem like the basis of a healthy or even desirable romantic relationship to actually be 'rivals' with someone.

I think I'll be fine with any companion/advisor/other NPC romances.  Although when I'm in a PT with an inquisitor not romancing Cullen or Dorian I will probably be head canoning them getting together and then ignoring any party banter that contradicts it (sticks fingers in ears) - if I can't hear it then it didn't happen, right? ^_^

Anyway, I know that won't happen, but still....Sigh.

I think "rivalry" is just a poor choice of wording.

At least with Fenris, if I'm playing a generally pro-mage character, the only way I'm not going to stack up rivalry with him is to not bring him along on quests where I'm helping the mages. And that just makes me feel like Hawke is lying to him and hiding a part of themselves to make Fenris like them, which... feels waaay more unhealthy to me than just being honest about your disagreements.

(I promise I'm not trying to argue, or single anybody out! I just see this opinion pop up a lot and wanted to address it.)

No I understand what you mean! I think it's much better to do the rivalry with Fenris then side with the mages rather than a different alternative, plus it just doesn't make sense otherwise. I guess it's similar with Merrill/Anders but its a bit of a different situation because in Kirkwall the mages are at a disadvantage and being hunted by the Templars, so I guess because Merrill and Anders are already in a bad position it seems like a bad idea to romance them when you are already siding against them and advocating hunting them down. Although I'm pretty sure you can get their rivalry whilst still siding with the mages, like if you disagree with Merrill about her blood magic and disagree with Anders about the whole vengeance thing. But that's just a part of their character and if Hawke can't accept it, it doesn't make sense why they would romance them anyway!

I like the thought of companions and advisers getting together, it's a large group so some are bound to go for each other. Josephine/Cullen makes a lot of sense thinking about all the time they will be around each other while the inquisitor is away. I'm not sure about the companions since we don't know a whole lot of detail about themselves and their backgrounds yet, but some interesting ones would be Cassandra/Blackwall, Josephine/Vivienne and I would love to see a reunion between Varric and Bianca.

Doesn't stop the amount of mage Hawke's romancing Fenris, or pro-templar Hawke's romancing Anders/Merrill (rivalry). In fact none of the rivalry romances were healthy to be honest. And I've got a bit of an issue with Mage Inquisitor/Cullen (maybe even Mage Inquisitor/Cass as well) considering the fact that he is still fairly pro-templar in this game by the looks of things. I think Dorian/Iron Bull could be fine considering he doesn't agree with every part of the Qun (he seems pretty dis-attached from it anyway, but probably upholding the basic beliefs), and also he seems friendly towards everyone on his side/who is with him. I'm sure he doesn't advocate enslaving and imprisoning mages who have done nothing wrong, maybe he did before he went out into the real world, outside Par Vollen or wherever he came from.

Eh, the rival romances in DA2 could have some unpleasant implications to them, but none of them amounted to being in favour of the kind of treatment mages see under the Qun.

I think the issue at this point is that we don't know how much of the Qun the Bull has left behind - that he's learned to party is hardly certain evidence that the treatment of mages is something he's changed his mind about.  Maybe he has, but if not any IB/mage relationship will have some serious issues to it (which not everyone would mind, but even so, if that's where he turns out to stand it will be something that's very different from even the harsher rivalry bits).
