The thing of it is Bethany never expresses anything beyond scattered curiosity which is brought up all of one time.

For all intents and purposes it may have well never happened for how much it impacted anything at all; So you claiming disconnection because of a single loose comment, years before even admiring Sebby doesn't make much sense to me.

Bethany wasn't a Lesbian who went all googoo for a man; She was a heterosexual lady who expressed minor interest in possibly considering a differing angle on intercourse in a single conversation in act 1. Which truth be told; could have meant nothing at all in the grand scheme of things, if that was such a world shattering revelation to her perhaps it should have been brought up in the future.

It wasn't.

So your issue with this seems to stem from YOUR issue with this, and not much else.

Which truth be told falls apart if you apply even the flimsiest of logic to it but...people find odd things offensive all the time.

I'm gonna try not to be defensive in this response to you in particular because i've saw your interaction with people on here and beyond this response, I will not speak to you again. I'm real like that. That's not hostility...that's truth.

I do not know what Bethany's sexuality is. I never made the claim of that but from traipsing around Kirkwall with her and Izzy most of the time, they talked and she mentions something about women and some interest. it's not definitive...just a small hint and then suddenly Sebastian shows up and we never heard any of that again. to be fair, I know she practically disappears after Act 1 so I can lend it to that (though Izzy still writes her...curious things).

Point is, I am simply saying if there is any inkling of a character being interested in same sex, and mostly this happens with women because m/m isn't as visible for some reason, they immediately follow it with throwing something opposite sex in there. Like...can't they just either Be curious or Be with women without THAT every time? That's a pattern. it's not imagined and lots of people can attest to that. that's the perspective I am coming from.

So less about Bethany, and more about a general trend in game characterization.

Except Bethany never did show interests in women. She blushes over Isabela bragging about her sex life and apparently read whatever porn Isabela sent her. I mean, if that's your headcanon cool, but there was no actual implication.

Yeah, this is the conclusion I came to as well... she seemed more shocked (maybe amazed would be a better word?) than interested in exploring this for herself.  It's kind of vague, so I guess it's open to interpretation.

Yes this it exactly. Thank you for seeing that.

So Lion...why did she ask which six? or rather, why do you think she did? Genuine curiosity? Cause I didn't head canon anything. I'm going by what happened in the game and that is all I have to say on the matter.

Didn't people assume Elsa to be a lesbian because she's a strong independent woman who don't need no man?

Just because someone doesn't show immediate interest in same sex or opposite sex mean that they are one way or another. This is especially true for fictional works where they can only focus on the conflicts resulted from the environment, so characterization may not be explored as deeply. If we go by the comments then Merrill is  also straight since she only comments on the aesthetic of the Qunari's physique, Anders is straight in DAA and gay in DA2, Fenris is straight, and Isabella is just horny.

The very series of conversation that the introverted assassin claims marks her as a Lesbian.

She expresses confusion, disdain and dismissal when it comes to the subject of homosexuality in the majority of those conversations.

Bethany: So you've... been with women. In bed?
Isabela: I know. Shocking, isn't it?
Isabela: You see, sweetness, men are only good for one thing. Women are good for six.
Bethany: Six? Which six?
Hawke: Isabela!
Isabela: (Laughs)

The entire scope of her lesbian/bisexual experience.

Impressive isn't it?

clearly she is a deviant.

On the other hand if you we go the heterosexual route?

She actually expresses attraction.

You know, Actual indication of sexuality.

Yeah, no I get it.  I'm just not sure that we can say that she's definitely only interested in guys.  It's not Bethany per se.  It's the assumption that anyone who shows attraction to the opposite sex gender has to be straight (or to the same sex gender has to be gay, but that is almost never the argument).  Bethany isn't a lesbian, we can say that for sure because she's interested in Sebastian.  But, isn't that about all we can say definitively?

In the same conversation Isabela was teasing her for being a virgin, so she asked because she's completely inexperienced in that area. It's the equivalent of someone saying something really outlandish and then asking them to clarify.

Fair enough but on the same token you can't really assume she's automatically Bi either.  :P

My only horse in this race is people shouldn't take their own interpretations as canon.

Revulsion to anything that reminds you of General Winter?

Also, lolz at calling a hypothetically interested-in-women Bethany "deviant."

Why are we discussing something supported nowhere again? The only person I've seen Bethany express interest in is Sebastion.

No, I just don't like bad musicals.

I don't ascribe to it as anything more.

Totally agreed.  Which is why I tried really hard to clarify that I wasn't making a definitive statement on her sexuality.  Again, I'm just not really familiar with Bethany, so I thought that I might have missed something else and was really just asking for clarification, so thanks for that.  Like with Carver, I feel pretty comfortable stating that he's likely straight since he shows interest in several females and has slept with a woman from Lothering prior to the game (Peaches, right?), and never expresses any interest in m/m topics.  But with Bethany, I thought it was a little more vague and was just trying to clarify.  It's likely that I'll never really play the game with her since I really like the story of DA 2 with Hawke as a mage and love the brotherly rivalry between Hawke and Carver, so asking here is about the only way I'll learn about Bethany.  To be honest, until just a few weeks ago, I didn't even know that she had the "Six?" conversation at all, so it's all kind of new to me.

The joke doesn't work without some sort of tie between lesbianism and deviance.

Which there isn't.

I'm just fine with other characters developing romantic relationships. In fact, I'm completely for it as it add more depth to them (and it's adorable). I've heard speculation of Bull/Dorian and now Cullen/Josie (from that tweet) and I'm a fan of both. I'm not really a 'shipper', so I don't really come up with relationships I'd like myself, but if they happen in-game I always support them. One thing I would like is to finally have a s/s companion romance going on. So far I think we've had Alistair/Leliana implied in a DLC codex though it wasn't mean to be canon, Bela/Fenris, and Seb/Bethany or Merril/Carver (flirting), so yeah.

I'm firmly in the "Will never romance Merril with a mage, love Carver/Merril too much." It's not a great sacrifice, since Merril's romance isn't really my favorite (I prefer bros-for-life with her, or WHY YOU BLOOD MAGE STAHP as a path).

And almost EVERYONE hitting on Nathaniel in Awakening cracks me the heck up. What was that, Oghren? Stupid sexy Howe. At least Nate gives as good as he gets. ...I really like Nathaniel. Anyway.

I'm generally a fan of hookups. I am guilty of shamelessly shipping Kaidan and Liara, and I adore Garrus and Tali, even though Garrus is miles above the other romances in my estimation. It helps that I play a lot of romance-free protagonists, so my companions going for each other makes me happy. It makes things more lively.

I have a vague sense I'll be shipping Viv and Sera like whoa, but we'll see.

Because Carver's tiny and angry and adorkable, and my baby brother. And Merrill's tiny and cute and adorkable.

Somewhere hidden (not-at-all) deep inside of me, there's a mother hen.

Isn't that how much of Thedas views homosexuality according to WOT?

Personal deviance to be ignored as long as they marry and make babies?

I don't know, I think that Carver being a total jackass would put a sour note on the relationship.

In terms of how the word is generally used, no. And most people have no obligation to marry or make babies either (including, interestingly, the Dalish).
