All Hawke has to do is ask. To want him by their side.

Indeed? So if Hawke asks Carver to leave the templars and join her at the beginning of The Last Straw, he will? Because I never saw that (though I only made him a templar once; I can't really justify not bringing him the Deep Roads in a roleplaying sense).

Finding purpose in his life in literally the only thing he's good at? Aveline won't let him join the guard. What else can he do? He doesn't want to be the little Hawke anymore. Get off his back, sis.

He could go back to Ferelden and join Alistair's army.

Pfft.

Who would want to fight for him?

Even Carver deserves better.

I personally believe he would. Carver at the very least would never raise his sword against Hawke.

When Hawke confronts Meredith, Carver asks Hawke if they can kill their own sibling. They ask if he can, and then he sides with you. Maybe that's not enough for you, but it's enough for me.

I almost always make him a Grey Warden, too. He seems happier that way.

Doesn't Aveline do this if you rival her and she doesn't marry Donnic and becomes a bad guard captain? Trying to remember.

I kinda hope that the Warden seen with Hawke in the trailer can be changeable and can be Bethany or Carver if they're alive.

He was in Cailan's army before.

To my Hawke, she herself matters much less than all the other mages now being targeted by the templars. That's why Cullen's defense of Hawke falls completely flat for me too.

Or you could just give the dude a break and stop asking him to move away so you don't have to deal with someone who thinks for himself.

I have no problem with people who think for themselves. I have a problem with templars.

I wonder if there will be the ability to encourage or discourage these kinds of relationships. Like in ME3 with Joker and EDI. It could allow you to play a matchmaker or hardcore 'no fraterinization' Inquisitor depending on your interests.

Xil just  finds silly reasons to hate on Carver for showing interest in Merrill.

Ohpleaseohpleaseohplease.

I have a tendency towards ace protagonists for reasons that are not at all hard to guess, but I tend to love helping my companions out. And that includes getting them to make the plunge.

If my sister ever has offspring or I somehow acquire grandbabies, I'm going to be the worst.

I have no idea what other variables there are for this conversation, then. I've never had to fight Carver, and neither has anyone else, ergo, he's always ultimately loyal to Hawke.

Oooh, like when the Warden got to be Oghren's wingman? That was cool.

Then I'd logically also find reasons to hate Alistair for apparently romancing Leliana in Darkspawn Chronicles... and yet don't.

That's interesting in theory, but I doubt it will be like "the Long Road" where Aveline asked Hawke to help her out...  I'm not familiar with the details of Joker and EDI's relationship in ME3, but that was a robot and a human.  Was there a similar option for Tali and Garrus, for example?  In any case, if the Inquisitor tries to crack down, I'd be in favor of the companions in question sneaking around regardless... :bandit: Not only is a very realistic response to being told not to fraternize, but It could add some drama to the overall plot.

Leliana isn't an elf, so Alistair has it easy.

I actually respect Carver, over the course of the game he matures from the whinny younger brother into his own man. Definitely has a stronger character arc than Bethany.

Least Cailan had the sense to sellout to Orlais.

I must confess I find the weird outcry among certain subsets of fans regarding character hookups to be kind of weird. Like, I get that they get really, really attached to whoever their LI happens to be, but I'm not entirely sure why that hatred gets directed towards, for example, Isabela for hooking up with Fenris in some parallel universe that wasn't their's, but not towards other players who romanced Fenris. Like, if I'm a Cullenite and I get angry because Jospehine hooked up with Cullen, shouldn't I also get angry at every other player who also romances Cullen because he somehow belongs to me?

To get away from debating how awesome Carver is Carver/Merrill and back on topic, I'd like to see a number of match ups in Inquisition. It'd be interesting to see Leliana hook up with someone if she unromanced in DAO, and honestly I think Cullen needs some love and I never intend to supply him with any.

I'm all for some s/s relationships, though. IB/Dorian would be kinda interesting because of the whole Tevinter/Qunari dual-outcast thing. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of relationship they have anyway, platonic or no.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Solas will try to hook up with Sera and get… casually shot down.

He's drop dead freakin' gorgeous. Dem blue eyes....and that Scottish brogue too....

True, but the celibacy ("reign it in", srsly? 115a.gif) and threatening to march his army on Kirkwall kind of ruined him for me.

For posterity!

Zevran: Here, take that templar fellow. Rugged good looks, quick wit, manly shoulders... just getting him to hop borders is a challenge worthy of great heroes!
Alistair: A challenge? I'd happily hop borders, given the chance. I've never even been close to leaving Ferelden!

If only my Warden could've made him happily hop borders.

Now on topic.

What I would like to see is Dorian and Iron Bull for the banter.

Pretty much. Plus Alistair has an elven mage mother. He's basically as good as a human can get.

I'm so confused. Why wouldn't you trust Carver? Hell, if you side with the mages and he's a Templar, he tells Meredith he won't kill his brother/sister for her, and if you side with the Templars he's horrified: "You can't be siding with that ****** against your own people!" He defends you when Fenris takes issue with your mageyness.
He never betrays Hawke. He's literally spent his whole life protecting them.

This so much! I love Carver, I'm telling you if Hawke had not been his brother I would have romanced him with my male mage!

More on topic, I would find it interesting to see Cullen/Vivienne hit it off.

Why?

He flirts with Isabela just as much...

I don't think he's especially attracted to Merrill. I just think he doesn't pick on her more than usual because he gets her.
