Why can't we romance Harding?

Dwarves (as distinct from those with dwarfism) are not real. Bioware is not obliged to give any representation to them. There are also no Orlesian LIs, nor can we play as one. BW should be called out when they offend RL minorities, but they have no obligation to make or not make a character a LI.

No one is talking about real life or being offended here, calm down. And yes fans of the series can ask why have dwarves been left out for 3 games when it comes to romance. It's a legit question that many would like to know. And we have at at least 1 Orlesian LI in past games, that would be Leliana.

Define "many."

They haven't done one because they haven't been interested in doing one yet. That's a legit answer.

I REALLY hate that excuse. They may not be real in our reality but they are real in the DA universe. Different races would proved more variety in romances as opposed to only human LIs with slightly different philosophes.

Seriously DA4 needs a female elf LI for male elves and a dwarven LI for everyone.

Many as in the people in this thread, and the dwarf support thread that keep wondering when they will see a dwarf romance. And we got that answer from Gaider, who also said he was creeped out by dwarf romance. The females are like children and the males are short and hairy. Pretty sure that was his exact quote.

Would be nice, but as the dwarf fans motto seems to go "maybe next game". Been saying that for 3 games spanning 7 years and counting.

So, not many people at all. BioWare's true mistake was letting people play as dwarves in the first place, because then people start thinking dwarves have "souls" and the capacity for "love" or something.

I'm kidding obviously and would like to see a dwarf romance eventually, but dwarf content is used by a very very small percentage of the DAI player population, so that if they don't already have a notion to do so there's little pressure on top of that. However if the game releases and Harding steals everyone's heart, then politely asking for her to return in 4 with a larger more cuddly role does indeed seem like a good course of action.

And we got that answer from Gaider, who also said he was creeped out by dwarf romance. The females are like children and the males are short and hairy. Pretty sure that was his exact quote.

"I was joking, as I believe I even mentioned in that thread. Those comments were after people took something I'd said earlier out of context to mean "David Gaider thinks dwarf sex is gross" ...when what I'd said was that we'd reviewed the sex scenes in DAO with a "worst case scenario", and the Alistair scene was done with a dwarf made to look like a young girl (with pigtails and such) and that had left me a little traumatized. I clarified that as well, but nobody paid any attention to that clarification either, so I've pretty much given up on trying to assure people that I don't hate dwarf romances.

So, yup. Dwarves are gross. Eww. Feel free to quote that out of context and spread it around."

Like Sigrun?

Like Dagna?

Also Gaider retracting a statement because fans got offended. Totally like people don't do this when they offend people. Was he sincere or not? Only he really knows. Going by the series track record of no dwarf romances, I say we have the real answer.

He didn't retract anything. Fans, as you are doing now, failed to understand context.

He made a statement.

Fans saw statement.

Fans got mad over statement.

He tried to clarify his statement and said it was just a joke.

How did anyone not understand the context? He did a poor job of trying to joke about something, and later tried to clear it up.

Right. A clarification is not a retraction. It was a joke, yet some people still insist he won't do dwarf romances because he thinks its gross, even though he said the exact opposite in what I quoted you.

To be honest, while he was joking for exaggerated purposes, I think his reasoning still applies.  His posts I would think shows that there's some weariness in what the content may appear as to some people (understandable) and why they would also be weary about doing it (understandable again).

Its not that I think he(and Bioware) wouldn't do it because its gross so much as those reasons.

Was it a joke? Only Gaider really knows. I'm not saying he was or wasn't joking, because I honestly don't know. I'm going by what I see. And what I see is still zero dwarf romance options after 3 games, even though fans have asked for it.

And this thread was so much fun for a few pages.

He said it was a joke, so I suppose you're rhetorically calling him a liar.

Well, I will say that Gaider has a sufficient lack of respect for the fanbase to lie to us if it suited his purposes.

Why would there be any wariness about it? Dwarves are adults, and we know they reproduce so they have sex. Them being short is really a problem? Because go back and play origins, elves are probably 3-5 inches taller than dwarves in that game and DA2. Romancing them have never been seen as a problem. People were complaining about elves being too short, and they were given a height buff in DA:I. But in the other games, they weren't much taller than dwarves. Dragon age dwarves aren't 3ft, they are closer to 5ft.

I had to google who this ''Harding'' character is supposed to be.

Voiced by Ali Hillis? Ugh, great. So the last three games with her awful, monotone voice ''acting'' weren't enough?

His lack of respect is dwarfed (LAWL) by his need for snark, so I see no reason to believe he wasn't joking.

8 romances true enough, the largest in any Bioware game ever.

SWTOR had arround 20 of LI's. Heh, i even remember D.Gaider reminding Laidlow (or whoever made that statement) about it.

Agreed.

Cullen just has a very vocal fanbase, and the devs I guess took notice and gave him a bigger role in DA2. And now an even larger role in DA:I. Guess dwarf fans need to get more vocal, or a dwarf romance will never happen.

That's not how it works

Its already been stated that Cullen was NOT written because of fan service.  You can get that out of your head.  No matter what you think the characters are written how the writers see them.  The writers and game developers do NOT owe us anything.

They did NOT do this to deprive you.  Its not some conspiracy.   The time will come and they will add a dwarf companion romance.

Bullying the game developers will not get what you want.

We should consider ourselves lucky our dwarve inquisitors will be able to have romances.

Yup, this! I really want a dwarf romance, but not because of representation (which I class as a higher need even in situations where it's not me "benefiting"), but because I really freaking love dwarves. And my favorite romance, even tho it was a mini one and can't properly be called one, was Gorim. Because he's awesome. Also dwarves.

Cullen was just added at the last second as a LI. Can you imagine if he were in DA:I n

had they left him out as a romance option again? I really wish Bioware had done this, just to see the reaction.

As for the dwarf Inquisitor having romance options. Exactly who would that be? Scribbles and........Because I honestly don't know with all the race gating and straight or gay only options. Male dwarves have Cassandra and who else? Female dwarves have Sera. And both have Josephine.

Dwarves have Blackwall, IB, Josie, Sera, Cass, and Dorian. Pretty good spread, all things considered :)

I'm not a fan of the race gating but I'll wait til I see how it's implemented to judge.

Probably because, regardless of how old she actually is, she looks like she's 12, OP.
