As a person who loves to play "evil" /antihero / villanous characters I first hated this. But now I love it.
This is why, I hope people who watched the movie can guess my intent

So far I don't care either-way... If BW will handle it well it can be interesting but so far it is only "you are the chosen one more than ever"
No.I want to destroy chantry, templars and seekers. However, if I get to be Herald of the Old Gods then yes.
What better way to do this than from within? If Bioware made this Herald of Andraste thing right, you can embrace the role, destroy the chantry and the templars - and at the end of the day - save the world. Who will question the one who saved the world itself? Your authority and power will be absolute as you walk over the ashes of the last burnt down chantry and whisper "suckers"
Believe me - I thought this through and my character will be a super anti-theist. You are basically fighting fire with fire by pretending to be the Herald of Andraste and destroy everything she stands for, but as you save the world noone will question you. You are completely free to absolutely obliterate the chantry and any other opposition under divine authority you dont even believe in. Think about the possibilities!
People always worship the PC in bioware games, I guess it makes a bit of a change to formalise it.
Agreed! xD
I'm much more concerned about the possibility of having to be an assh*le to everyone in order to effectively reject it. Because you know, that's how these things usually turn out in mainstream stories. What can I really expect from a story whose main antagonist distinguishes himself by rejecting the dominant faith the first time we hear him speak, as if that underscored how evil he is?
Agreed that's definitely another worry beyond the possibility of their being no real means of rejecting it.
I'm an atheist, but I think it's cool and will play a mage or non human inquisitor as a zealot just so see how it goes. And you can't always control people's perception's, so I think that it adds a degree of immersion that people will call you the herald no matter what you want.
If they insist that everybody is going to call us the HoA whether we like it or not then that limits my options. I've already ruled out human because they are too close to the Chantry. I couldn't play a Dalish elf that would accept being called HoA no matter what Cassandra says on the matter.
This leaves Dwarf Criminal( member of the Carta) and Qunari Mercenary.
I'm looking GoT at this:
My Dwarf Carta member in the style of Littlefinger, will use the influence the title gives him/her to improve their standing in life, gold luxury and power will all come to the Herald of Andraste whether I believe in the woman or not.
My Qunari Mercenary will act more like Bronn. You want to call me the Herald of Andraste? Well as long as a castle and copious amounts of gold come with it you can call me what ever you like. Now who wants to cozy up the the Herald? You know the Maker wants it.
All I know is that I plan to milk it for all its worth.
Being a divine figure never appealed to me. On the contrary I think I would dislike it.
Can't wait to declare my Inquisitor God-Emperor of Mankind.
Ohhh yesss I am....after my Dalish mage is done with these Andrastians, they will call me the scourge of Andraste.
That title I will make my own.
If you embrace the title as Female warrior Trevelyan...I have a bad feeling that we will see:
It didn't end well....

It's very clear the team took inspiration from religion, especially Catholicism. Look at those two examples. I especially find the background interesting. The windows in the back make both scenes very similar. Can't be a coincidence.
I'm used to being a divine figure.

You know I think the Devs saying outright, multiple times that you can reject it, not to mention showing you in a stream you can reject it the moment it's brought up would do a lot dis spell that fear.Sure Cassandra kept saying it after the rejection but she may believe in it.

It's a very powerful image, doesn't necessarily mean you are supposed to be the messiah. I will however be using any means necessary to reinforce that I am the Herald of the Old Gods, not your heretical cult.
Nope, because only the Maker is Divine and I'll have to fall on my sword for being a heretic.

I wonder which of them is Judas.

It's the Tevinter Mage,

I think it's bit silly to assume that image is meant to evoke the Last Supper. None of them are in remotely similar poses and it's a war meeting not a dinner.

Could be purely coincidental, but it is also possible they took artistic inspiration from the last supper without the intent of relaying any theological meaning.

My borderline sociopathic character will abuse this privilege when he can.
I think it's an interesting parallel to what Andraste herself likely experienced during her life. I'll be going Bene Gesserit on this: promote the lie to gain fanatical levels of public support, docility, and a big ****** army.
