omfg I'm so excited these guys're gonna show up in Inquisition I could VOOOMIITT

but, ya know. happy vomit. ANYWAY I have a couple random questions and nowhere else to ask 'em, so here you go.

1) I know the Avvars trade with the dwarves (especially for armor and other forgewrought goodies), but is there any word on their contemporary relationship with the elves? Do they barter with the Dalish, or are their interactions hostile in nature? Do the Dalish even venture as far as the Frostbacks? If they do not... is it the climate or the company that deters them?

2) Avvar shamans are mages. Have the Templars ever attempted to.. y'know, do anything about this? Unlike the Dalish, the Avvars mostly stay in one (cold af) place, so you'd think the Chantry could just declare an Exalted March on the Frostbacks, or something (hey, if they can do it to Orzammar, they can do it to the mountains). Are they afraid of being sacrificed to Uvolla or is that shiny armor just made for warmer climes?

Also I gotta say the Avvars are especially rad as Andraste was one of them, and they actually believe their gods created the dwarves! (TISK TISK, Mr. Maker. For shame.) AAAND if Circle magi have seen the Avvar's gods in the fade... whyyy do people only talk about Fen'Harel and the Maker? Rude.

Here, have some sexy barbarians.

1) I think the Avvars are generally hostile to all lowlanders and the Dalish would be included in that mix. I know they believe the dwarves were the creations of Korth, but as far as I know they have no myths to explain the existence of elves.

2) I doubt they've ever tried in earnest. A templar willing to trudge up a mountain and fight a tribe of barbarians just to arrest one mage is either a fanatic or a fool, and the Frostbacks suffer neither.

1) They are hostile to almost any group, but i believe if enticed they wouldn't not trade with the dalish, but i doubt they would.

2) The Frostback is a very rough landscape, while the Avvar know the lands the templars do not, they may not see it important enough just to get one Mage. for all we know the nations seem to let them live as along as they stay in the mountains where not that much trade goes through.

1. We don't know anything about their relationship with the Dalish clans.  Avvar live in tight-knit, non-permanent communities in the Frostbacks, and I doubt Dalish often make it a point to venture through them.  I wish I could answer this but we just don't have any info on the two groups' interactions - as far as I've read.  We know that the Dalish fought the Clayne, which were an Alamarri tribe in the lowlands...but the Clayne don't exactly reflect on how the Avvar would interact with the Dalish.

2. All I've read on the matter is that the Templars aren't welcome in the Frostbacks.  What this means for the Avvar relationship to the Chantry's military arm is unclear, but it seems like they may just leave them alone, so long as the Avvar aren't attempting to actively usurp lands from Andrastian states.  But I want to know more about the Avvar shamans.  Apparently they share similarities to the Rivaini seers, insomuch as the two regularly perform ritualistic spirit possessions.  The Avvar's shamans also have rituals that force the spirits out of a person's body to minimize the risk of unwanted abominations, which is really cool and also sounds like useful information!

I'm really interested in learning more about the Avvar and their culture, so I am fo sho recruiting the Sky Watcher from the Fallow Mire demo!  I find it fascinating that they don't care for Andraste in their religion, despite her having been Avvar when she was alive.  And then they have air burials, and falconry, and - lore building...I need it.

Apparently one of the human Origins during development was meant to be Avvar.  Oh, what could have been....   :(

Also I found this picture of an Avvar shaman, and I thought I'd share, since you were so generous to give those lovely pictures (I especially like that Avvar archer one).  The owl on his head is so cute!   <3

10/10, that sounds spot on.

I kinda hope the human protagonist next game is of Avvar/Chasind/Ander tribes/something origin rather than the usual noble descent. I'd actually consider playing one first if that was the case.

yea would've been good for a alternate origin them similar to DA:O ie the dwarves and elves(and humans if you count the removed origin) then be good to play as a chasind but cant see a avvar being in the inquisition to be honest.

also I had no idea they had rituals that involved spiritual possession just this should make the chantry and Templars more involved as it is not only a risky venture to created abominations it could outright help stop current problems with that in the circles especially with what we saw in Kirkwall.

Ditto. Unless Trevalyan's story is really compelling, I won't be playing a human protagonist in DAI. If I could roll a character from one of the human "barbarian" tribes, however...

If only they had been able to resolve the difficulties with the Avvar origin in DAO.

I think trying to run an exalted March on the aavars would be like German soldiers in Russia in ww2 in the winter, not a favorable war campaign
