I'm always unsure about my point of view over blood magic. My mage warden never tried it, killed immediately any blood mage that were inhabited by an deamon. But, was okay with Jowan trying to repent himself.

My Champion was the same and helped Merrill even if she was a blood mage, because she believed she could handle it.

I don't know how my Inquisitor will handle it yet...

I just can't believe using blood magic makes you an evil person. If you are a weak mage, you'll probably be fooled by a deamon and became an abomination. But a great mage will use blood magic to do great things like Merril tried to do for her clan?

How do you handle blood magic in you games? I'm curious! Thanks for sharing :)

Responsible for the Darkspawn, reason enough to kill all practitioners.

As a class ? I love it ! Give me back mah Bloooooood ! LOL

*ahem*

Well , Jowan I always hand over to the circle . Not cose he is a Blood Mage but cose he is an idiot . And if his gf got punished , so should he .

Merril ? Hum..I always rival her hoping she get it in her head (not that blood magic is bad)..but that her clan futur is everyone job not just hers .

As for Blood Mages we meet in DA2 . Well they were all crazy . So Some I left alive..some I had to kill .

In general . I be against it . Not cose its evil...but cose its open door to hell and these idiots cant controle it . But for every blood Mage I kill...the sin is on the Templar head .

So yeah thats what I think .

A bit extreme on that last point, but yeah, I'm against the use of blood magic as well. Bioware hasn't been exactly consistent about the effects that blood magic has on the user and the world, but they have made it a point to say that it weakens the veil and attracts demons.

Demons are objectively evil and only want to break things and people and if blood magic makes them more likely to appear, then I guess it has to go as well. Mages can already control the elements, heal the sick, perform necromancy and control entropy. They really don't need demonology and mind control as well.

My stance is don't do it, please. It isn't something that always just affects the mage doing it. Mages are already vulnerable to demonic possessions as is, if you get possessed by a powerful demon then the people around you have little chance of surviving.

I think blood magic itself a bad idea, but I don't think it makes the practitioner "evil". It's not some disease or unforgivable sin. It's just another school of magic. They can refrain and go on with their lives, if they want. The problem is those who do not want to.

Or so I think. I was talking to someone else about this the other day. I let Idunna go to the Templars in DA2, and she wrote back later a changed person. Lets see if she stays that way.

Anything that requires demons and self-mutilation probably isn't something worth practicing. IMO.

It's just that I can't blame blood magic for being bad. Blood mages made pacts with deamons and became abominations, okay I got that. but, Merril got it under control (for now) and she uses it to help people. On the other hand, Anders made a pact with a spirit and thinGs went as bad as becoming an abomination. He probably killed more people using his no-blood magic than Merril with her blood magic...

If blood magic was thaught in circles of Magi, (like probably tevintir imperium is doing i'm sure of it) would mages could use it's properties to make good thinks and pushes back the darkspawn? Sometimes, the weapon that harms you can deliver you.

I'm not sure that blood magic makes the veil thinner that much. i'm pretty sure the simple usage of magic in the same place for a long period of time would do the same and would catch the attention of a deamon.

Im for it in certain situations(warden usage and blights) and for its academia. My warden used it and saw it as how the user uses it. Hawke... grey area know it but rarly used it.

BM is only bad if x moron uses it. Its like any tool it can be used as a defensive and offensive tool. Its the user that decides

Merrill doesn't have blood magic under control. There is no such thing as having demonic influence "under control." She was on a fast track to getting everyone around her killed and becoming an abomination.

I am against blood magic.  It's not worth the risks that come with it.

*Last Flight Spoiler*

I really don't care for it, a blood magic user can have the best of intentions but one slight mistake can cause a huge catastrophe. For instance, Isseya in last flight used blood magic to cure dying griffons infected by the taint but due to her very well intentioned "spell" she caused the death of all griffons.

I was initially for it, but since it weakens they Veil and attracts demons even more than regular magic, I'm not so sure.

I don't think you need to bring up ancient stories of the Chantry.

There are "practical" problems with blood magic. It fuels off of life. Some asshat is bound to just tap into someone else's blood, not his own. Or even animals. Someone who does is a sociopath and sicko.

Also, it allows you to control people's minds. Just not cool.

It can tear the Veil. Forget the chantry tales. The veil is still very real.

Boom.

But beside that; attracting demons, controlling minds, and the extreme cruelty associated in the pursuit of research and power makes it a crime punishable by death as far as I'm concerned.
