DA2 was an overlong DLC... and at that it was a prequel DLC to inquisition, not Origins... the story was disjointed, the ending was too abrubt... it was like going about your buisnes for 10 years and then the game ended, 80% of quests were side qyests of little importance, Hawke although "the champion" was a total underachiever (mom dead, sibling dead, friend killed hundreds, could not stop Arishok from laying siege to the city) the passage of time was criminaly underused:
- no changes in city layout,
- people wear same clothes for 10 years straight,
- people did not age,
- one guy was waiting 6 years for a meeting with the vicount, as far as I know he still is there, while I go to close the Breach in Haven) NO I DID NOT TELL HIM THE VICOUNT WAS BEHEADED...
- The same whores in the Rose for 10 years... <now this one is a joke>
Was the game fun why it lasted? YES
Is the DLC good? Actually better than the game itself.
Is it worth playing... at least once if you like Bioware and accept the fact that DA2 is more a Spinoff than a Sequel.
But in the end it was the ending that did not go well with me...
You are correct about the time skips but that wasn't the main issue with them. The real problem is that the skips were what we should have played. Remember, this was supposed to be a more personal story with the premise being Hawke's rise to power.
In year one, Hawke works for the mercs or smugglers. We could have played Hawke learning the city, rising in the ranks, and earning the reputation we are told he has in Act 1. This would also allow us to feel the pressure of protecting Bethany or, even more importantly, see Carver constantly in Hawke's shadow and disrespected, which would build sympathy for him and make him come off less like a whiner. Hawke could be putting his earnings aside and be in a position where funding the expedition sounded good.
The second time skip was a chance to see Hawke adjusting to life in Hightown, learning to rub elbows with the nobles and climbing the social ladder. We need to see what Hawke does that attracts the attention of the Viscount. Why does he trust Hawke to deal with the Arishok? I wouldn't change Act 2 too much since the Arishok and Hawke's dealings with him are great.
The last skip happens after we are named Champion, removing all importance of that title. We don't get to see the "honeymoon period" right after Hawke saves the city. It really leaves us saying "I'm the Champion... so what?"
