Some glitches all at once: missing textures, utterly messed-up model
Seriously, why do people not like this game?

Bioware always has excelent characters (I did not like Anders in this one, nor Fenris and Sebastain--I did not even bother to redownload Sebastain's DLC after I upgraded my computer lol.)
The main problem with DA II is the quite evident lack of new level design. The Wounded Coast and Sundermount had the same ****** cave.
Pretty much this. I found Anders whiney in this one, whereas I liked him in Awakening. Fenris I didn't mind too much, not least as the rest of the party tease him about being a broody elf. Sebastian, oh... no.
But other's were excellent. Isabella and Varric are each a joy to behold, perfectly done. They felt very "real". Aveline too, even though she's supposed to be the somewhat humourless shieldmaiden she was still an excellent character who felt like a genuine person. And Merrill, well, she's a keeper as they say.
If I could add one companion, it would be to add a mercenary that you could spec 2H or S&B and put whatever armour on him you like. I can live without playing "dress the elf" but I really liked in Origins making one of my warriors a walking suit of armour.
I also didn't mind the change of Bioware design. EVERY Bioware game, pretty much ever, revolves around the hero with a thousand faces coupled with a world/galaxy spanning hub. DA2 isn't this. You're a refugee. You don't get to defeat the Archdemon, or Malak, you get to rise within a mediocre also-ran city and ultimately get you to decide the local politics. That was a brave decision against tradition, focusing as much on the theme of refugee migration as much a religious tolerance.
But given that Sundermount and the Wounded Coast should have been larger and nicer "looking". Just think of the assets in Origins that were the random encounters, so much better than most of DA2's design. Or the city "Back Alleys" from Origins and DA2, DAO looks really cool DA2 looks really crude. Given there were so few caves each one could have been designed to look unique and wonderful. This was all clearly part of the production budget. Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2 both came out in 2011, so they had clearly been in development simultaneously, and in my opinion it's clear the development time and effort and staff and budget went into ME2.
Ramble ramble blah blah 4 year old game etc. etc.
Shame they can't be bothered getting DAI to run correctly on the 360. It'll be a couple of years yet before I get an XBO.

On the surface, Anders is whiny. If romanced, you do get to dig deeper lol into what's going on, especially for a rivalmance. I just don't think his character was as developed as Fenris. Those two are meant to be polar opposites, much like having Wynne and Sten I suppose, where one's a mage with a spirit in her, the other mistrusts magic entirely. Sebatian is one I feel got the short stick lol on with development. A lot of people say they loved Isabella, but she felt like a very drummed up stereotype. Though, at the same time, I took her entire design to be tongue-in-cheek. And no, not her tongue in some guy's cheek. In my first playthrough I was right there with Aveline and her snide comments, sniggered when she probably got the clap. In the end I think I saw her as the Barney of DA2. Since I often rogue my way through I don't develop a frienship with her enough.
I'm glad you grasped the concept that DA2 was very localized, thus having millions and zillions of new maps would be odd. You lose everything, but become someone renowned in a city full of crazy. And like you, I agree that the level designs in DA2 were mundane. I had deja vu quite a few times when going through different caves. But still, DA2 fits certain gaming moods I get into. Every game has a different atmosphere, even with a game series. They all also have shortcomings, but we still love them anyway. Usually...
