I'd be willing to bet that the bonus content with the guide is MP Chests. Wasn't it the same for a lot of the ME3 stuff?

i may buy the guide after a first playthrough (to avoid spoilers).

will the items still be available then?

I don't think the bonuses have ever been described as a pre-order exclusive, so I'd think that you should get them with any copy of the guide, whether you pre-order it or buy it post-release. (But I'm not an EA/BioWare/Prima employee, so that's just one gamer's opinion.)

ETA: *new* copy of the *hardcover* guide

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Stuff like that usually is only available around launch. I haven't purchased a guide that has come with content but there are other accessories out there that you can buy but have only come with stuff for those who got it at launch. It's like an added bonus for spending £100 on merchandise when you buy the game at say midnight launch. I could be wrong though, but yeah, don't get your hopes up. A way around it though would be to buy the guide now, get the content, and do look through the guide until you've completed the game. It would be tough because you know it's there but you could always leave it in your attic or something. Somewhere you rarely go. (but of course still in your house; don't leave it in a park or something)

That would be a great idea. Even though all new copies of the (*hardcover*) guide should come with the bonus items, there's of course no guarantee how long the guide itself will be available. After the retailers run out you'll have to turn to third-party sellers for a new copy, as used copies will almost certainly have had their bonus content codes redeemed already. When the guide will sell out is virtually impossible to predict.

Unfortunately, after the guides do sell out pricing will turn into something of a racket -- new copies of the Collector's Edition of Origins and the Signature Edition of DAII (the games themselves, I mean) are going for well over $100 each right now, and that's the only way to pick up the CE/SE-exclusive in-game items (at least for console -- PC users can get the Digital Deluxe edition of Origins for $25 on Origin). I've been asking EA/BioWare to make the item sets available separately, since there's no sense in paying that much simply for the 3-5 extra items when you already own the full games, but until and unless they do we're at the mercy of free-market capitalism.

I don't mean to scare you into buying the guide, but if you want to be absolutely sure you can get the items then I would follow LightningPoodle's suggestion.
