Does anyone know the vague ages of the companions available in Dragon Age Inquisition? Either by cross-checking with lore or comments made by devs?

 

If not, anyone care to guess?

 

To start, Cassandra is mentioned on the official timeline as having been a "young seeker" in 9:22, when she foiled a plot to assassinate the Divine.

 

DA:I starts no earlier than 9:40, which is then Cassandra is interrogating Varric in Kirkwall. 

 

So the youngest I can think Cassandra is would be about 16 when she was a "Young seeker" (assuming a medieval aesthetic, 16-year olds were probably considered fully functional young adults), she would be 34 in DA:I. The oldest a seeker could really be considered young (in my opinion, would probably be about 25, so I would place her at 34-43 years old. 

 

So the primary love interest for their overwhelmingly male straight demographic is a solidly butch middle-aged woman. Gotta love Bioware taking risks in the name of progressivism!

Varric: Who knows? He's a dwarf.

Blackwall: Forties at least, maybe fifties.

Vivienne: Probably thirties.

I think most of them are in their 30's, with Blackwall and Solas being in their 40's and Sera and Cole being in their 20's.

Varric was born in 9:1 and DAI start somewhere between 9:40-9:42.

 

Cassandra can be anywhere between 33 (15 in 9:22) and her early 40s depending what they meant by "young Seeker".

I think it's interesting how the ages of the characters are skewing considerably towards middle age. Typically protagonists and major NPCs tend to be on the younger side, especially with female characters.

 

Looks like having so many female writers is paying off, and we're not seeing any kind of "men can be middle aged, women must be young" dynamic going on.

Probably has something to do with the game player demographic too, honestly.    All of those characters are my age or younger.   The 'average' gamer age now is 31 years old.   The average age of the typical video game buyer is 35.  

 

Dragon Age tends to probably favor a bit older player than average as well with its themes and game design.

To be fair, that is a fair approximation of the players' average age.

Well, that's probably a bit older than the average player's age, I don't think it's quite up to early 40s yet.

 

And anyway, I think it's safe to say that an overwhelmingly straight male demographic will normally expect a much younger woman in their fantasy lovers.

But Josephine is like ~25, so there's something for everybody .

 

My guess is, that Blackwall and Solas are the oldest - with Blackwall possibly being in late fourties.

Varric and Cassandra would be late thirties to early fourties.

Iron Bull and Vivienne mid-thirties (unless quanari physiology is different?)

Dorian, Cullen and Leliana in early thirties or slightly younger.

Sera and Josephine are definitely the youngest of the bunch - probably mid-twenties.

Good grief... this started off as a fun topic, but not everything is about sticking it to straight males... give it a rest.

So any malequisitor will be quite young compared to say Cass? If the Inquisitor is young that is. So Cass can then brag about having a young boyfriend (like 15 years younger), heheheeeee...

Is it really so surprising? So many can't tell the difference between a strong (both physically and emotionally) woman and a "butch" woman, it's almost amusing - just another case of misplaced perception of beauty.
