As a late 20s player (27) I love that the cast is predominantly older. Most of them are seasoned warriors and have lived through a lot, which make them all the more interesting. The sole exception is Sera, who comes off more as a younger girl who doesn't understand the world, street smart but not wise. I relate mostly to Dorian and Josephine but wouldn't mind the company of the others, as they'd have a lot to teach offer.

Also, its been said the Inquisitor's age is between mid 20s-mid 40s. Adds a ton of age diversity potential with characters, and its nice for the game not to assume you're some fresh faced recruit off the boat.

I think Leliana is probably around the same age as Cass. My guess would be somewhere in the range of 37 - 40.

 

In Origins one of the characters (Wynne?) says something about Leliana being older than she looks. I think other than Wynne, she was supposed to be the oldest human character on your DA:O squad. So my guess is that she was somewhere between 25 and 30 in Origins. Alistair and the Cousland Warden I'd put between 20 and 25 in Origins.

If im recalling correctly here, DAOs toolset stated Leliana was 26, which sounds reasonable to me

Is it really so surprising? So many can't tell the difference between a strong (both physically and emotionally) woman and a "butch" woman, it's almost amusing - just another case of misplaced perception of beauty.

I didn't mean "butch" as an insult at all. I think it's an awesome thing. Cass clearly doesn't have the usual indicators that illustrators/animators use to portray exaggerated femininity - she's not that curvaceous, she's not adolescent, she doesn't have long or impractical hair, she has a short, dark military cut, sharp features and a challenging disposition.

 

All I'm trying to say is that this goes way outside of what people normally expect in fantasy story love interests. And that's a good thing.

 

I mean, compare her to Isabela - ridiculously busty and curvy seductress with long hair and a corset.

 

Or Liara from Mass Effect - big doe eyes, innocent and trusting disposition.

 

Or even Leliana from DA:O - sultry french accent, big eyes, innocent, girlish manner, flirtatious and fond of cute things like baby nugs.

 

Even Morrigan, for all her abrasiveness, still dresses extremely skimpily and is clearly supposed to be a femme fatale sexpot character. 

 

Cass is a bit of a departure, can we agree?

 

I also don't have anything against straight males - I'm a big fan. But I keep bringing them up because they are still the overwhelming demographic for games like this, and that necessarily informs how women in games are portrayed. If anything, the fact that the DA:I devs and producers felt comfortable giving us a woman like Cass as one of the main love interests speaks very well of the majority straight male demographic.

I think people are overestimating Blackwall and Solas. I would place solas 38 - 40ish, and Blackwall 40 - 42ish.

Varric: As has been stated Varric was born in 9:1 or 9:2, so he's 38-41.

 

Leliana: Her pregnant mother went with her Orlesian noble employer after the end of the Ferelden occupation, which ended in 9:2 when Maric became king. So Leliana was born in 9:2 or 9:3, making her 37-40.

 

Cassandra: Dawn of the Seeker happened in 9:22, and she is described as "young". If we accept the youngest she could be as 15 and the oldest as 20, this puts her birth between 9:2 and 9:7, making her 33-40.

 

Cole: Given his nature it's impossible to tell.

 

Cullen: Was a new templar during the mage origin in 9:30. Alistair was on the verge of taking his templar vows before Duncan conscripted him, which is when Alistair was 19-20. If we accept the youngest Cullen could have been in 9:30 as 18 and the oldest as 22, this puts his birth between 9:8 and 9:12, making him 28-34.

 

Josephine: Has been confirmed by the devs to be mid to late twenties (e.g 24-29)

 

Sera: Was described in the leaked survey as "young, frenetic and a brat through and through". Exact age is unknown, but can be inferred to be in her late teens to early twenties.

 

Vivienne: Was in line to be First Enchanter of the Circle in Montsimmard, but we know too little about how First Enchanters are apponted to use it as a measure of her age.

 

Dorian: Undetermined due to lack of information.

 

Solas: Confirmed by devs to be early to mid forties (e.g 41-47).

 

Blackwall: Has been confirmed by devs to have "kids these days" talks with Solas, presumably making them the same age of early to mid forties.

 

Iron Bull: Old enough to have been granted broad authority in the Ben Hassrath, and old enough to have fought campaigns against Tal Vashoth. Apart from that, unknown.

Has it been 40+ years since he's woken up? Or perhaps the Dread Wolf Inhabiting the body of a 40-year old elf?

How can the writer confirm that age for this character, when he's... some ancient elven deity?
