So I've been thinking a lot on what type of character I want to be, recently I've been thinking of adding myself in the game and go with the choices I would personally make. However I feel that this could be bit boring and not very interesting.

This is my canon playthrough:

Spoiler

If anyone can recommend a class, race and back story it would be greatly appreciated. Also note that this is my canon so I don't want to go for something silly.

Name:

Race:

Sex:

Class:

Personality:

Backstory:

Pro-Templar?

Pro-Mage?

Opinion on religion?

Thanks. :D

How did you manage to side with the templars in DAII? Being a mage apostate yourself and all...

No one cares about you being warrior or mage in DA2, which is odd since the whole game is about mage vs templar.

I'd say make whatever race is your favorite(human?). Favorite Class. Pick whichever gender is needed for your Li. And then for personality/choices/whatever, go for whatever you think you would choose.

That's sort of how I do it. It's a nice mix between self insert and making up a character and role playing them.

I'll attempt to 'help' (whether it does or not, I assume no liability LOL):

Name- Up to You (suggest Drystan for Male and Rosenwyn for Female)

Race- Human

Gender- Up to You

Class- Mage (your Hero of Ferelden sided with the Mages plus your Hawke was a Mage, don't want to break the trend)

Personality- Noble/Clever (depends on the situation)

Pro-Templar- Reasonable. Not anti-Templar but against the corrupt ones for sure

Pro-Mage- Again, within reason. Mostly pro-freedom for mages but condemns Blood Magic

Opinion on Religion- Likely unconventional Andrastian views (such as Leliana's and Anders', where it suits their needs more than it does orthodoxy)

I guess it depends on whether you prefer to make your Inquistion playthrough different to DA2. For example if your Hawke sided with the Templars maybe you'd like your Inquisitor to be the same or they could have conflicts. Seems like you if you prefer romancing female characters, (and play a male character) you side with the Templars you could romance Cassandra (who seems to be pro-Templar), and if you side with the Mages you could romance Josephine (she seems at least neutral on the Mage/Templar war). I'm not sure about Sera's view on the Mage/Templars though if you are planning to play a female character. Maybe if you are unsure of the Inquisitor to create you should decide that first then choose the romance when you are actually in game.

I always create my Inquisitor and EVERYTHING beforehand but some people just don't like doing that as much, it's not too bad if you just wait till release and choice in the moment  :)

I can't remember my reasoning behind it, it was so long ago since I played it. I think it was because Carver was a Templar and I secretly wanted the Circle to be destroyed. Siding with the Templers is the best way to accomplish this I feel.

Your Hawke sided with the Templars in DA2 (Mine did to. She was all pro-mage right up to the end. Thanks Anders  )  Anyway... I would probably side with the Templars at first in Inquisition  then as the story advances i will begin to slowly turn more towards pro-mage. A sort of reversal to what did in DA2.

Has for classes. I would go for the one you are most comfortable with. If you enjoyed being a mage in DA2 then go with that for Inquisition. (I was a mage in DA2 but i plan to play as a Dwarf so mage is out of the question for me)

If you play as a human you wil be a part or was a part of the circle so your character could easily support the Chantry and maybe the Templars.

For names i would go for either Evelyn for my female or Logan for my males.

At the end of the day. Go with what you are most comfortable with. :)

Yeah, I remember. That's why as a mage I cannot bring myself to side with the templars, it feels so wrong. Even if you are a warrior, the whole game makes it look like templars are opressing mages by force and treating them like animals. The whole "mages are very dangerous" thing is not a very good excuse when you take into account the thing as a whole.

I can't remember my reasoning behind it, it was so long ago since I played it. I think it was because Carver was a Templar and I secretly wanted the Circle to be destroyed. Siding with the Templers is the best way to accomplish this I feel.

:o  :o  :o

Now that's interesting.

Anyway, on topic. If it's any help, I will tell you how I am building the psyche of my inquisitor. I am gonna play as a human mage, so I'm just building her character taking into account the little back story about her "origins", which gives already a starting point. From here, you can build the rest.

Yeah, well, I don't know. Maybe it's the "secretly wanting the Circle to be destroyed" part. Poor mages. They have feelings too.

My suggestion would be to pick a character you particularly like from something else and see if that inspires you. My canon Inquisitor, for example, will be heavily based on Anya from Buffy, and my second on Cersei from GoT, (with a bit of Princess Azula and Veruca Salt for good measure). If nothing's tickling your fancy, go from who you want to romance and build a vague concept from there. Or pick flaws! That always gets me going!

I just broke my DAI "fast" because I'm starting to get antsy about the game. this thread is where my head is. my character. big decision. I don't even want to look at gameplay. what I've read makes me nervous. I'd rather just jump in the deep end on day 1.

I was going to go for lady quinari, then saw Dorian only likes men. maybe male quinari. no way. I wouldn't be happy.

so, now I'm reverting to type: Elf. but, this time with a twist. Fenris. or at least an angst-ridden, chip-on-the-shoulder white-haired pouty man who will F...mess up everyone's day from time to time, but get the job done & tempt Dorian and who knows who else into at least a smooch if not everlasting love.

until I'm in the game, meet some peeps, get to know the story a bit, I won't make up my mind what my politics or philosophies are.

and voices....I'm going to fall for the best voice....bad guy says shoot the farmer in a sexy fabulous male or female voice and my "fenris" will just shoot.

Wow. I'm really impressed that you could organize this so well, my outlines are on sheets of paper and messy as heck. But then, I'm actually impressed that 'we are' both so geeky as to actually have character outlines ready to use a month prior to the game coming out :)

PS. I usually go with a good girl, bad girl, wishy washy girl kinda of game. Rogue (always first playthrough, cause I HATE not being able to open stuff up right away) then Warrier then Mage.

Yeah, Allistar marries Anora, and acts like a bratty child to you as always, Loghain redems his name, good times.

Mhm, and one misstep throws the entire thing off the tracks and you end up with either Alistair dying or Anora in chains. Good times as well. Even better? Forcing Loghain to take the Dark Ritual. Sometimes messing with that man is just too much fun.

But yes, get Anora's support, harden Alistair (no that is not a euphemism), and get them to agree to marry before the landsmeet. Once there, spare Loghain and recruit him and if you play your cards right it won't go to hell and Alistair will leave your party and be replaced by Loghain. <-- Mind you, it's been awhile since I've played so I'm probably missed several steps.

OK Lannister I'm going to give this a try.

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Class: Rogue (warrior then mage leaves rogue)

Your first 2 characters are both chaotic good. They are helpful and friendly. Lotharios as well. They tend to be merciful. However at some point they go against someone close to them (went against Alistair to keep Loghain, declined Morrigan, turned Isabela over). I didn't see what happened with Anders.

So you are a Trevelyan. Faithful to Andraste, but not a fanatic. You agree that mages need to reined in, but you disagree with how the templars are currently going about it. You will have one true romance, but will not say no to a quick fling. You'll be friends with your companions. Now the tricky part. At some point you will betray one, and only one, of these friends. They won't get what they want or maybe they decide to leave the group. Best not to decide who that person is beforehand and let it happen naturally in the story.

I based this off of the pattern I saw and not what I would go for.

Yeah, it just feels like I'm cheating the game and missing out on something if I keep picking human. Thanks anyway though.

Yeah, hardening Alistair is crucial to become king abd leave Loghain alive.
