Its been confirmed that outside of tactical cam on both PC and Console you have to hold down or mash a button to chain basic attacks.

In earlier games in the series you just had to click once for auto attack. (DA2 had a toggle)

What do people think of this change?

Thankfully holding RT is nowhere near as annoying as mashing the A button.

After they patched it in... Less than 3 days after release for PCs, more than a month after release for Consoles...

It's cool. The less this combat has in common with Origins, the better.

Wow this is balls, why would they ever take out the auto-attack? Talk about out of touch.

Why...

For most situations I prefer over-the-shoulder view and only use tactical cam when I need the different perspective. But without auto-attack... just what the hell.

I'm not a fan of this change.  I liked the toggle and I don't see why that needed to be removed, but I guess I'll just have to adapt.

Not happy about this at all, but then maybe I'm imagining it wrong? I mean, okay, if I'm controlling a character, they won't act until I tell them to, I don't mind that.  But the party characters that I'm not controlling at the moment aren't going to just stand there and do nothing when the abilities in their tactic aren't accessible (on cooldown or not enough stamina/mana), are they? In the middle of a fight? That would be insane.

Because console patches have to pass certification. PC patches can be released as soon as they're ready.

This must be false information, at least for the PC. It would be absolutely insane to remove auto-attack.

I didn't question why there were different release dates for the patch on platforms... My point was only that it wasn't in the base release of the game.  Meaning that auto-attack was an afterthought.

After all, DA2s Auto Attack was only available on day one for the PC because people bitched all through the demo about the lack of an auto attack.

Do developers have a contract with input device manufacturers or something?

Why would I ever want to mash a button for every single attack? What other purpose does it serve other than increasing wear on the mouse/keyboard/controller? Immersion? HAH, ... "oh, mashing this one button for every attack is soo immersive, it feels like I'm really in control over my character".

Give me a break. I prefer my stuff to hold together for some years and not fall apart after every big game because of awesome button.

This really bums me out. Guess i'll wait and buy the game until they patch in a proper auto-attack on the consoles as they did DA2. Because honestly, i can't see myself playing this game having to hold a button to perform basic attacks.

Not to be that person but..... that's "what *do***...."

I wouldn't use auto attack anyway, but it's kinda silly that it isn't just in the options menu. Holding it seems like it would get annoying.

No no the non-controlled characters will auto attack, this is about the player-controlled character not attacking automatically by himself.

Whoa, yeah, you're definitely imagining it wrong. What they're talking about here only applies to the character you're controlling. Other party members will attack and think for themselves without your intervention.

No, it was an accident. They sent the wrong build for certification. So then they either had to release the game with a major feature missing, or delay the release.

They chose the former.

***WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!complaining and whiney post****

Seriously though I really couldn't care less.  It is attacking and combat is supposed to be somewhat engaging, not sit and watch until one of your cool downs goes away and then do something....

Congratulations to you that the way you play isn't affected by this. But why do you feel the need to put down the way other players play their game?

Blithely mashing or holding down the basic attack button and pretending we're Mortal Kombat grandmasters isn't particularily engaging  <_<

Oh common... everytime I get hyped for this game something comes out that makes me rethink everything.

This is terrible. I don't want to mash on a button. I want to select my target and worry about the tactical options of my party, not mash "A".
