No auto attack outside of tactical cam

I'd settle for something to just trigger on a % of health, if we could set conditionals for as many %s as we wanted.

I've said in am older thread that adding pause in tactics could be a good idea.
Adding a tactic
3 clustered -> Fireball
isn't much different than
3 clustered -> Pause
As long as we can identify what the trigger is (for multiple pause tactics).

..... So anyway, I'm thinking there will be some clarification this week. Somebody said they tweeted Laidlaw about it.
Or hopefully they put up another pc gameplay video or stream, so we can pick it apart and figure this out.
Also, it's always been my preference that the tactics systems are elaborate enough that once set, pause isn't required. BG was decent at it, Origins was also passable, I'm finding again DA2 is less than avg, so im hoping they revamp it totally for DAI.

Apologies, I have nothing to add to the topic but the bolded caught my attention, cause that is totally, utterly...wrong.
The tactic set ups in DA2 were far, far superior in comparision to DAO. It is in fact one the main things out of DA2 I hope, really hope they keep.

Again, I've replated Origins many, many more times, so perhaps I became accustomed to its simpler setups. Or I have yet to delve into DA2's setup. Which I guess I will do some more of.
I also may be misremembering some mods for both games, so I don't claim to have significant knowledge of 2, at this time.

Since you can use the mouse wheel to switch between tac-cam and regular-cam quickly and easily, I suppose I'll end up using tac-cam all the time so I have auto-attack. I'll just adjust the camera so it feels like I'm still in third-person mode.
I just don't think this is how it will have to be. Why would they want us to feel 'forced' out of the standard camera? I just don't think we have all the info yet. And it's hard to watch it on the pc stream and try and find out because they were not focusing on this stuff.

I'm replaying DA2 right now, admittedly for only the 2nd or 3rd time since release, and while I'm not very far yet, it's not that impressive. I remember it being substandard in 2011.

DA:O had a terrible system at a vanilla. There was a tactics mod, and DA2 incorporated part of that mod.

Exactly "play on this cam or that cam" is not a valid solution. I always used both cams based on scenario and no auto attack in 3rd person is a big annoyance.
Also I watched the pc stream and its impossible to tell how much this will impact because the enemies are really weak and die quickly so there is no point where you have to engage for an extended period of time. I feel as if when there is an engagement for extended periods holding down the mouse to attack will get super annoying.

Exactly. "play on this cam or that cam" is not a valid solution.
This is the issue. We do not know what other limitations tac cam will place on the game. So we can't say 'well I'll just always use Tac Cam'.
They need to address this.

Maybe I am bring naive, but I don't get why you would want to use auto-attack. It auto-attack is useful it is showing that the combat is poorly designed. Attacking without using a skill should require positioning and timing. Combat shouldn't just be setting yourself in front of the target and waiting it out. I hate MMOs that make you do that, and I certainly wouldn't want to do that in single player RPGs too!
So the removal of auto attack is fine by me.

I may be wrong but the more I have heard how this works, I believe even in Tac mode there really is no true auto-attack, In tac mode you are puased and set up what the characters are going to and when you unpuase they carry that out, so its not really auto attack as in target a mob and your character will keep attacking with a basic attack or tactics set up it you still will have to target and button mash, unpause the action takes place, pause and repeat or am I reading into it wrong.... ![]()

The big advantage of DA2's Tactics system was that you could have branching logic by having it skip ahead to specific rows.I'm replaying DA2 right now, admittedly for only the 2nd or 3rd time since release, and while I'm not very far yet, it's not that impressive. I remember it being substandard in 2011.

You still have to select a target, yes. This is just how DAO worked.I may be wrong but the more I have heard how this works, I believe even in Tac mode there really is no true auto-attack, In tac mode you are puased and set up what the characters are going to and when you unpuase they carry that out, so its not really auto attack as in target a mob and your character will keep attacking with a basic attack or tactics set up it you still will have to target and button mash, unpause the action takes place, pause and repeat or am I reading into it wrong....
If you want a character to select targets on his own, you have to deselect him. Again, this is exactly how DAO and DA2 worked.

I honestly cant see that happening.
With the right tactics set, it would take out any sense of danger in the game. Health <10% > Pause etc
No chance that will happen.

No thats not what i ment...What I ment was there is no true auto-attack as in select a target and your character will keep hitting with a basic attack without you having to click click click even in tac mode. Its pretty much just pause give orders and unpause and repeat. It was similar in DAO when you puased but you didn't have to hit a button click a mouse every time just for a basic attack, you could target a mob with your staff and just let the character auto fire at it and then inbetween fire off a spell and never have to click to attack other than activating ability/spell.

No, that's what they've said. If you select a target and give a standard attack command in Tac Cam, the character will attack that enemy again and again until you give him a different command.No thats not what i ment...What I ment was there is no true auto-attack as in select a target and your character will keep hitting with a basic attack without you having to click click click even in tac mode.
What we don't know is if the selected character will automatically revert to the standard attack after using an ability.

Positioning and timing? You realize we have a Pause feature, right? You are allowed to manipulate both positioning AND time ... at all times.
This makes no sense.

Have you played the previous games? Normally one cannot move when the game is paused.
