Agreed. So instead of right-clicking once, I just continue to hold it down. OH NOES, WORLD IS ENDING!!!

The only people here spewing hyperbole about this is you two.

No one is saying the game is broken because of this, but we're all certainly wondering why this decision was made.

I foresee myself using tactical cam 99% of the time and when not in tactical cam, I don't mind holding the button (I thought you had to mash). So I don't think this is a critical flaw or anything. But it would eb nice to have the option regardless.

Yeah I always play manual when I can, and I love the holding button option as an alternative to mashing it, but there must have been some issue why the traditional auto-attack wasn't implemented in 3rd person, since I don't see what has been gained by removing it.

I haven't decided if I'll be playing with mouse and keyboard or gamepad, but PC regardless, not going to play this on a console.

Will probably start with mouse and keyboard then try gamepad before deciding. I feel that the gamepad will be cumbersome when playing tactically and when dealing with the inventory, we'll see though.

So did you play DAO and DA2 on pc or console?

Disabled people (carpal tunnel syndrome) and people with arthritis want to be able to play this game.  Removing auto-attack from the PC simply tells them they can't.

BioWare, this is neither good for business nor PR.  As a disabled person myself, I am going to see about having this decision broadcasted within the disabled gamer community.

This is a puzzling decision, and I'm really not in favor of it (for the PC version).

I wish they would have been honest about it.

you might want to hold off on that chief, there appears to be a descrepancy on whether or not this information is correct or if this whole thread is the product of a misunderstanding.

That post says it is available on keybind...  which means a toggle for PC.   They aren't going to have you hold down a key on your keyboard.

I will absolutely wait for clarification, but not if they say nothing until the week before release.

Yes, they are. You can hold the left mouse button or you can hold the R key, but you must hold one of them to continue attacking.

There is no auto attack outside of the tactical view.

The OP linked to a post that was made today.

This is the point of confusion, the Dev who posted did not start on DA:I until Sept.

We are waiting for confirmation.

Also, the pc stream from Monday contradicts it anyway.

And the other post by a different employee goes into more detail stating that even on the keyboard you will have to hold down a key.

Some clarifications hopefully to the rescue!

When directly controlling a character (ie not in tactical cam mode):
-Hold controller trigger to continuously "auto"-attack, tap to do a single attack (or repeatedly tap, which does the same thing as hold)
-Hold 'R' (rebindable) or hold left click to continuously "auto"-attack, tap to do a single attack (or repeatedly tap, which does the same thing as hold)
Not pressing/holding attack button/key when directly controlling a character will cause them not to attack.

In tactical cam mode you're basically assigning orders, so all party members will autoattack while in tac-cam. The camera can be panned and tilted all around in tac-cam mode, it's not iso/top-down locked.

Barrett was perfectly clear.

Refusing to believe that it's true doesn't make it not true.

Ok, I just read that whole thread.    Auto-attack exists while in tac cam mode and you have complete control over how the tac cam angles and everything on PC, so it will basically be like the two previous games anyway.    Just have to stay in tac cam mode the whole time, which is probably what I would be doing anyway.

I move my characters by point and click during combat.

The only thing more baffling than not including it excluding it from one camera mode.

It's like if Bioware has this compulsive need to just 'fix' that which was clearly never broken. Amongst all the complaints about DAO/DA2 I don't ever think I heard a single (PC) player say "Hey Bioware, you know what would be awesome? If you made us continuously click the LMB or hold down a random key to attack for no damn reason. KTHNXBYE

There's no way they will force anyone to use Tac Cam simply because a gameplay mechanic which was always adaptable to multiple inputs has been changed for no reason.

There has to be a toggle.

But you see. We don't know that.  We haven't played the game. For all we know there may be a very good reason that auto attack isn't in anymore.  They may have removed the former way it was done to remove the ridiculous delay that sometimes occurred in implementing attacks.

My point is the mass hysteria for something that may end up improving the gameplay for everyone concerned amazes me.

We have a good reason, but we are not going to tell you! Bullshit.

I'm cool with it, because in DA2 I mash the attack button anyway even though I don't need to. Instinct, I guess.

Sure as hell don't want to sit there passively watching my character attack on his own volition.

Yeah, I'd say: Good choice, Bioware!

Judging by nickname and avatar this surely is a WUM.

Simple scenario guys.

You are solo'ing the game.  You are traveling and come upon a single enemy.

You pause the game, select the target to attack, un-pause it.

Your character just sits there.

THAT is what we are being told is how the game will work.  That is what many in this thread (and others) have said they "are fine with".
