Sure :)

Reave: ranks 1-3, Radius, Recharge Speed, Barriers and Armor

Overload: ranks 1-3, Damage, Recharge Speed, Shield Damage

Alliance Officer: ranks 1-3, Durability, Biotic Power Damage, Squad Bonus (shields)

Keep in mind that with this setup he seems to randomly alternate between Overload and Reave on targets affected by both if just ordered to attack. It sometimes resulted in quite annoying situations when he used Overload on Dark Channel-primed targets or Reave on targets primed with Sabotage. Quick mapping or a power wheel should fix that issue :) Interestingly enough, he learned quite well what to use during Priority: Earth. The amount of times he used wrong power was minimal.

I went for shield bonus for the last rank of Alliance Officer because I combined him with Javik (who also has shield recharge bonus at rank 6 of Vengeful Ancient), Fortification and Fitness shield recharge bonuses and it allowed me to recharge shields quite fast. If you don't care about it, perhaps, squad power damage bonus can be more of use.

OK, so far, I think I'm going with the build Red gave me for James, and, I think I'm going with the build Vazgen, gave for Kaidan. Both seem to fit.

Now, it comes down to, Assualt Rifles. The Typhoon is too beastly. Revanant and Mattock. How about the Mattock?

Also, with all Squadmates, is their weapon damage useless? I'm thinking of using the other evolution(s).

You have to understand how squad mates will use a weapon. Just because it has nice stats, their AI may not take advantage of those. Consider the Mattock vs the Vindicator in ME2. The Mattock does 50 damage per shot, while the Vindicator does 37. (Of course, that is reduced when squadmates use it.) So it would appear the Mattock is better. But if you watch a squad mate use both, they have the same behavior: they pull the trigger 3 times for each firing cycle. For the Mattock, that is 3 bullets, or 150 damage (times the squadmate multiplier which is 30% I believe). For the Vindicator that is 9 bullets , 333 damage. So the Vindicator wins. For other guns they tend to fire off half their clip. For the Suppressor they fire 3 rounds per firing cycle. For the Hurricane I believe they fire 10 rounds. For the Raptor they fire 3 rounds. For the Viper they fire 2 rounds.

This is just too spooky.....I was just reading a thread about squadmate weapons. Cap or Red, and I think you, were explaning the stats on Assualt Rifles. Anyhoo, I'm still torn between which one to use.

The last post was about James and the Revenant. Explosive Burst, HVB and something else.

Javik seemed to use his Particle Rifle for about 3 seconds when firing. Kaidan did 3-4 shots with Mattock. I think squadmates shoot rapid fire weapons for longer. EDI shot Tempest for about 2-3 seconds. If you're using Explosive Burst rapid fire weapons like Geth Pulse Rifle, Revenant and (not sure) Particle Rifle should be your best bet. I tend to give squadmates weapons with rapid fire rate and somewhat decent damage. Incisor was great on Garrus.

I was doing Admiral Koris, and James fired the Mattock three times, then went back into cover. That makes me think that rapid fire is the way to go.

I switched to Warp Ammo, on my Sentinel and for some odd reason, I kept setting off Biotic Explosions. Does Warp Ammo prime for Biotic Explosions? I remember firing my pistol, then throw. Next thing I knew BOOM! I had the Talon equipped.

I forgot. Vazgen, thank you for the stats.

A lot of it will depend on clip size. In ME2 your squad mates would fire the Locust in 10 shot bursts, but fire the Tempest in 25 shot bursts, both being half the clip. I suspect the same is true in ME3. I believe the Revanant has a 60 shot clip which means, I believe, they will fire 30 rounds per firing cycle.

Warp Ammo does not prime for BEs. What Warp Ammo can do for you is apply the "lifted target" multiplier to any target primed for a BE, whether by Reave, Dark Channel, and Warp as well as targets lifted by Slam, Pull, and Singularity.

Any BEs you were seeing were probably primed by something else, either Warp which has at least a 10 second duration, Dark Channel which has a 30 second durantion, or Reave which has about a 6 second duration. Its the nice thing about biotic powers: the primers last a good long time ensuring you have the time to get an explosion.

OK. That would explain the explosions then. At some point and time, I must've chucked a warp without realising it. Didn't remember the effects lasted that long.

I remember you mentioned the, Revanant in a different post, Larry. So, I'll give that a go.

To add......I just finished the Ardak-Yakshi Monastary. Gave James and Kaidan the Revanant. It seemed to fit with them. Not over-powered and it was rapid fire like I was looking for.

Thank you for the suggestion!

I should note that I play on Xbox, so I can only map one power per squadmate. If I want to play without pausing (or with minimal pausing), that means I can only really use one power per squadmate, so that changes how I spec my squadmates usually.

Hehe, I'm on PC and I pause all the time, but that's a bitt offtopic I suppose.

James:
For James, I usually ignore Carnage since the cooldown is oppressive and I do not really use him a whole lot anyway. I usually spec James for survivability, grenades, and Incendiary Ammo:

Fortification: Durability - Shield Recharge - Durability
Incendiary Ammo: Squad Bonus - Headshots - Explosive Burst
Carnage: -
Frag Grenades: Damage - Grenade Count - Shield Damage
Passive: Health and shields - Shield Recharge - Fortification

Notes:
 - Incendiary Ammo, I go Squad unless I have my own Incendiary Ammo (Soldier or Vanguard), in which case I give him the damage bonus. If I am using Squad Cryo Ammo or Squad Disruptor, then I ignore his Incendiary Ammo
 - If you want more damage out of his ammo, then go power damage at rank 5 of Fortification and passive.

Well this probably has to do with the pausing thing, but I do max out carnage, and leave fortification completely empty (I do think you have to reset his powers to get 0 points in fortification). The reason to put no points in it is that I actively direct my squad to attack enemies, and this will sometimes cause him to active the skill. That, and James is already a near indestructable tank without the skill.

The huge cooldown for carnage doesn't really matter in my opinion, because he also has the grenades which can be used while on cd.

So my James looks like this:

Fortification - not a single point
Carnage - Damage, recharge speed, armoured damage.
Incendiary Ammo - squad/damage, headshot, explosive burst
Frag Grenade - damage, bleed Damage, shield overload (you find grenades EVERYWHERE, no need to go for extra capacity)
Arms Master - weapon damage, power damage, squad bonus (+20% shields on the entire squad is quite f'ing something if you ask me!)

And I give the guy a particule rifle. Works very well with his ammo power.

Don't have much to say about Kaidan, he usually dies.

OP: if you're on a playthrough with a dead Tali, I'd advise you to take Javik instead of Kaidan. They have some interesting comments on Rannoch.

Tail is alive in both my imports....

But I'll give your version of James a run. Thank you for the advice! The one thing I did notice playing last night was, his Fortification was turned off. I was popping on his Ammo, and noticed.

Squad mates will not turn on their defensive power (fortification, barrier, defense matrix) unless ordered to. You need to do it for them. This is to prevent the ME2 problem of your squad mates "throwing up a barrier," putting them into cool down, just when you wanted them to use some power. In this case, it means their cool downs will not suffer the penalty unless you order them to turn on the defensive power.

You sure? James had his Fortification on starting from Mars in my game.

You turned it on at some point. He will not do it himself. You can see in this vid that Kaidan does not turn on his barrier for the entire time we are fighting through Mars.

I didn't. Both Kaidan and James did it themselves. Here you can see it in this vid

I'm like 95% certain James (who is not Kaidan :P) does activate Fortification when ordered to attack.

Oh, you're talking about the Q/E keys. On xbox the "attack" keys can be mapped to specific powers so I never have that problem.

Actually, I can't tell anything from that vid because you are not using the pause menu to give commands. Most likely you are using the Q and E keys, in which case you DID order them to turn it on.

Well, I "didn't do it for them". Maybe it's just different on PC. Tbh, I don't remember at all whether I used Q and E keys to issue orders during that section but neither Kaidan nor James comment "acknowledged" or something like that, which squadmates do when ordered to do something.
