It's hard to justify spending $35 on information I can get from a 14-year-old with bad grammar on Yahoo! Answers. That kid has gotten me out of many a pickle.
Anyone Else Buying the Official Strategy Guide?

I never (DA:O being the lone exception) buy strategy guides for video games because like everyone says, almost all the info in them can be easily found online for free + so much more. Plus, most games are so shallow or linear that a guide is generally useless.
However, I am making an exception for DA:I, and I'll be buying the guide with the game. Reason being because I bought the DA:O guide on a whim while it was on sale back when I got that game, and I found that guide to be a great reference to me in easily building the specific characters I wanted, and helped me ensure that each unique playthrough went in the direction I wanted it to go, and ultimatly made me feel like I got more fulfillment and completion out of the game. Even on my 5th playthrough years later I am still referencing back to the guide for specific nuggets of information that I don't want to bother looking up online for.
In a way, I still feel it's a bit silly for me to spend money on a print guide, but because of the positive experience I had with the DA:O one, I'll do it anyway.
I will get the strategy guide. I will not use it on my first 2 playthroughs as I want to experience it naturally, but on my 3rd and 4th, I will use it to make sure that I cover all grounds that I might have missed on the first 2 runs.

Honestly, I probably will pick it up. The hardcover one, if at all possible, because I love getting the guides. I hardly ever use them (even when I'm stuck in games, I tend to hop on a quick google search instead of getting the book), but I love getting them. ![]()
The mystery in-game goodies for the hardcover intrigues me, as well. ![]()

I'm just a masochist and enjoy learning things on my own for the first couple of playthroughs, after which ill use the Internet and see what I missed out. Maybe ill buy it then.

Guides like these seem like a waste of money to me, as all of the information will be available online for free... And I try to figure things out on my own for my first playthrough. If you are buying it as a collectible, then it makes more sense.
As a sidenote, is anyone else sick of pre-ordering things with mystery DLC? Tell me EXACTLY what I'm paying for up front, please.

I'm pretty sure the "mystery dlc" is a MP pack. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I think. Maybe. Amazon(UK) doesn't have a very good stock at the moment: I get it on the 26th with one day delivery, as a prime member. I will use VPN, so I might be quite a ways through, but the it will take a while for the wiki to have any info on it, so I think it is worth it.

I swear, it's like buying those TCG card packs. I don't even play, but I have got a fairly decent MtG and WoW TCG collection because I like the "find out all the things!" aspect of opening packs.
That is the main reason I am getting the hardcover, to find out what the devil those mystery items are. x_x

I collect game guides for my favourite games, so I've pre-ordered both the hardback Collector's Edition, to go with my DAO and DA2 ones, and the Inquisitor's Edition (back when Amazon had it listed for over £20 less than it is now). I don't think either will be of much help during my first playthrough though, unfortunately, as both have estimated delivery dates of 27th November at the moment. ![]()
I love having them as a reference while playing - they're usually structured in such a way that you can avoid spoilers (unlike going online). My ME3 one was invaluable in finding all the side quests I'd have missed otherwise. I'm looking forward to the art and extra behind-the-scenes info, too, and have to admit I *love* the pen in the Inquisitor's Edition.
(The DA2 one, styled to look like Hawke's journal, had some really gorgeous art in it.)

Finding things I haven't done before is a huge part of replay value for me. I'm on the verge of completing my 9th run through DAO, and I still found new things in it. I hope I'll make that many runs through DAI.

I have the Collector's Edition pre-ordered on Amazon for $26. You can of course find the info contained within the guide online soon after launch but I enjoy the art of a guide as well, the bonus dlc doesn't hurt either.

But I did want to preorder it on amazon, however, they don't seem to have release day delivery for guides. I guess I'll pick it up at gamestop when I pick up my game. *shrugs*

The last game guide I bought was for GTA IV and I didn't even use it until years later when I went back to get all the collectibles.... Which I could have easily found a guide for online.
So, no. I don't think I'll ever purchase another game guide, period.

Add me to the list of folks who always get the hardcover guides for Dragon Age. My first playthrough will be a seat-of-the-pants mess, and I'll most likely miss about half the game.
Consecutive playthroughs using the guide will be better.

I bought the hardcover guide. Not because I'll actually use it - but I actually find reading through guides from time to time fun. I like the organization and art and just...reading...it's strange. This is the first guide I've bought in maybe a decade but I think it'll be a pretty book for my shelf.

I wouldn't mind having one for the art work. ^^

I preordered the CE edition, dont always buy guides because games dont always need them. Only really get them rpg's like the elder scrolls games. Sure you can probably get all the stuff online soon after free, but its much more convenient having it already there in front you on paper.

Nah. I don't really use guides the first time (Although I may look up the recruitment quests because I have..lets say made some mistakes when it comes to recruiting in previous games). And by the time I finish there will probably be online guides for my next few runs, so I can be all completionist.

I never saw the point in buying them due to the whole online thing if I really wanted to get some tips.
Personally I like figuring out things on my own in most cases, though.
This. I never use guides for a first or even second playthrough. If I really need clarification on something, I can just look it up online.
