Everyone is always talking about romance but personally I'm more interested in friendships with our companions. Since we don't have rivalry anymore and our companions will go if they are not pleased with our actions, I hope we can get a really close bond with them. So hopefully they don't just focused only on their romance but on the friendship too. Something that was a bit neglected, to a certain degree, in other titles. While I got the feeling of close companionship with Morrigan or Varric, I always felt that unromanced Zevran or the bond with Sebastian was a bit flat. In Inquisition should everyone form a strong bond with us if we get high approval, one that doesn't only show in a speech before the final battle takes place.

What do you expect from them and their personal storylines and who might leave you?
The most I'm looking forward to is Coles friendship since it was shown in Asunder how lonely he was and how attached he can become if he consider one a friend. Iron Bull is interesting as well, he has been through a lot and brings a new perspective to our inquisition. I know we don't know that much about each companion but there must be more than just a sexual relationship to crack their shell.

Maybe some personal questlines again.

Any ideas what they are about?

We know that Dorian is involved with the magister Alexius but I'm not sure if it's his questline we've seen in the demo.

So any suggestions? And I'm truly sorry if this topic was already discussed.

And I hope the console commands will work just like they did in DA2. Otherwise... Whoops.

Seriously though, I like pretty much everyone and look forward to know them closer. Except for Cullen and Vivienne maybe. I don't think we'll get along. Don't know what to do with it though, don't like the idea of companions betraying the Inquisitor.

I really liked the friendship/rivalry system, I wish that was back. It's gonna be hard keeping everyone happy when they all have conflicting views and we don't know how many approval points we have for each companion. I would have preferred the system in Dragon Age 2, personally.

I'm hoping too that the friendship path will be deep . That goes beyond the ' You are like the sister I didnt know I needed it' and stop there . Like really !!!! Friendship should just keep on Going !!! maybe even.....get to share something about your Li to your friend ?

Something beyond the 'Tell me your grief...yadayadayada...Im your friend now......the end' .

I feel like Blackwall would be an awesome best bro for my Male Dwarf Inquisitor. I hope there's some cool interactions there.

"Drink well and be merry, for life, is good"

I will aways remember that line.

Anyway, I'm looking foward to the friendships. I have no plans to romance anyone in my game, so seen who becomes my friend and who doesn't should be interesting.

I actually really wanted to romance Blackwall with a Male Dwarf, to me it seems like they would get on really well and I'm not sure why. Just seems interesting, maybe its the beards (if chosen) aha.

I'm looking forward to befriending the living daylights out of everyone. Assuming that I don't balls things up, that is.

I hope it keeps going after you've 'completed' the path too. Like little idle comments in the vein of "Wanna spill some drinks when we get back?" or just have characters turn up in the Inq's hide-y hole for a friendly "Hello." every now and then, even after you've done everything you can with them.

I just felt he was much more open in the romance path than he was as a friend.

Maybe it was so because his personal quest was only the encounter in denerim with the crows.

Gotta say, really gonna miss the Rivalry system. As for the friendships I have certain ones I wanna focus on through multiple plays.

For my canon play with male human mage I really wanna focus on Cole, Solas, Blackwall, Josie, Leliana, and Dorian(LI) friendships. While keeping a low disapproval rating with Cassandra, Cullen, and Vivienne. On the three latters I'm really hoping my character can kinda rival them to the point where they don't die or just leave the Inquisition.

Hopefully I'll be able to get along with Cassandra better than Velanna. 100% approval with Velanna in Awakening and she still doesn't like me lol

Well, I have my love in real life, so romance was never the reason why I'm so looking forward to DAI. Although I know it's just a game designed for entertainment, but a game worth remembering must be good at shaping lifelike characters and telling inspiring stories. Love is great catalyzer no doubt, but an emotional bond between two souls, the trust and reliance of companionship can be even more pure and noble and there are so many wonderful stories to dredge which were never been diligently delivered in DA.

DA has gradually become a beautiful dating game series and it has even been categorized with many cheap and lousy in-time consumptions. It's a great pity to me. I don't know why it happened and perhaps there is no ground for blame, but I saw so many valuable topics in this series and I believe if they were more delicately depicted, the conscious and artistic value of this game will be elevated to a whole new level. Besides, for those players who don't want to get laid for profound relationships wouldn't feel like they just played an amputated game.

DAI has already done, all I can do is to wait and see, but for now, a companionship touches the chords of one's heart that is no inferior to any sexual relationship pops out from the ocean of lovers is truly my greatest expectation to DAI, so lets just hope they won't be slapdash in it again.

I liked the friendships in Mass Effect 2 and 3. Each character had a mission specific to them as well as a back story. I felt really close to Thane, more so than any romance in that series, and will never forget the ending to his arc. There were a few others that I had built a really solid repore with as well.

Dragon Age Origins had Allistair, who turned out to be a pretty great guy and friend.

I cannot guess as to which characters would be my friend at this stage, not really enough information yet. I hope that one of two of them become unforgettable.

I actually completely forgot about friendships in DA:I. I still really want Leliana as a romance option but I know that won't happen anytime soon but then I listened to an interview with David Gaider and the topic of romance with non-romanceable people came up and he said that even though they aren't romance choices, they still have great friendship arcs and I just thought "wow". If Leliana still retains some of her charm and innocence from DA:O and has a great friendship arc, I will be a happy man.

The DA team have always been good at friendship routes. People might say that romanced Zevran was deeper than friend Zevran (I never got this, though I do think he's the best romance of them all), but that's nothing compared to Mass Effect 2 where the characters just cease to talk to you unless you both want and have the physical capacity to bang them.

I look forward to seeing everyone's personal arc and getting to know all of them. :)

I'm super excited about friendships in this game! Especially if it's a bit more like DAO where your team mates actually talk to you... Well. More than Hawke's companions, anyways.

While DAII's team still felt like a hodgepodge of people held together by string and Hawke, DAO's team really felt like a small family by the end (yes, even you, Morrigan). I'm actually way more thrilled about the character dynamics than I am about romances and I absolutely cannot wait to see how the characters come together and interact.

Friends with benefits sound OK for me.
