Also the drunk Blacksmith in DAO, but lets forget about him. :D

edit: Wait, he's "Owen" actually. I'm safe.

Also there is an "Owain" in DA:O. He was the first tranquil you meet in the Circle Tower.

if anyone is hurting for names I recommend taking a look at the medieval name archive here. The good thing is that this has more actual medieval names then just modern names and it has names from all over the europe and the mediterrian and beyond. I do hope this helps people in coming up with names. :)

As the Trevelyans have close ties to the Chantry in the southern Free Marches, it is possible that they lost people in the Kirkwall Chantry bombing.

@Johun, yes quite possibly, and now a few more just died in the Peace conference...Mage Trevelyan and warrior/rogue were both present. One dies, possibly some aunts or uncles as well. Then to top off your wonderful day Cassandra is going to hold her sword at your throat. I guess that Trevelyan inquisitor just had the bad day to beat them all.

A Kirkwall Amell marrying a Ostwick Trevelyan seems pretty plausible to me, before Gamlen lost everything of course.

Or mage!Trevelyan was a friend/lover/enemy/family to one of Revka Amell's kids.

Did Revka's family live in Kirkwall?  Maybe she even lived in Ostwick?

its implied she did but by the time we get there gamlens the only amell in the city. Its highly possible that after failing to get viscount status and then legal issues the moved around the marches and married into a another family

Or the KC sent the kids to different Circles, maybe there was already an direct relative in the Gallows at the time. IIRC the Warden had been in Ferelden's Circle since they were 6 years old.

I hope the Trevelyans have absolutely no connection to the Amells. We don't need an Amell protagonist in every DA game. Plus that just serves to make the game world seem really small when you keep having major characters come from the same family, even when the action is set in different countries.

I wouldn't mind people having that as their head canon for their human mage Inquisitor, but I wouldn't want it stated in the game somewhere that you're Hawke's cousin or whatever.

Agreed.

I will never understand this Amell obsession some people have.

its relevance, but more the fact you can be apart of a dynasty. To some that means power/influence. Everybody wants power.. its human

It adds continuity to games and connects your heroes together. The whole story gets more coherent and enjoyable. Not every feels this way but at least I think it this way and I'd love if Trevelyan was somehow connected to Amell's. Would make meeting with Hawke nicer too.

Ferelden, I think.

The entire point of removing them each time is to not do this.

I think there is some lore problems with that.. in my latest playthrough Gamlen told Malcolm was circle mage in the Kirkwall but I had impression earlier that he's apostate from further away.

Dragon Age wiki gives two backstories to him too, one is circle mage in Kirkwall and one is apostate mercenary.

Personally I headcanon him as Tevinter mage who left his life there ^^

People from Tevinter have Roman names, or fantasy-based names that sound like they are derived from Latin. Given that the last name Hawke has an English origin, it's probably a safe bet that he was either from the Free Marches or Ferelden originally.

I think the Hawkes are supposed to be from Ferelden though. IIRC there are NPCs who comment on Hawke's Ferelden appearance. That wouldn't make sense if both sides of his family were Free Marchers.

Agreed. They don't need to be related at all and currently in my head-cannon they are not. They exist in the world and can have continuity by linking events. Who they might have lost due to ander's attack on the chantry in Kirkwall is just one very likely possibility. I do hope though that we can see our background families in game at some point. It could be minor quests but I do want to see them.

Evelyn just reminds me of the grandmother in Two and a Half Men.

God, it sucks without Charlie! :o

Anyway, I will be thinking up/researching good names.

Only if your Warden is a mage. Any of the other five different possibilities, and the "dynasty" is broken. Making the Trevelyans connected to the Amells again would start reading like the mage origin is the "right" one to play, which was already bad enough in DA2 with how much more content the mage class gets. We definitely don't need any more of that bias pushed onto all players.

if you are looking for english female names I tend to go to this particular page. Countless names, and as they are actual attested medieval names they fit much better for Ferdelen then just using modern names. I hope that helps.

Or he changed his name because he wanted to hide from his influential Tevinter family, became a mercenary, got caught by templars and met Leandra in Kirkwall.

I love headcanon :)

I don't think there's going to be an official connection between the Amells and Trevelyans any more than Mahariel to Lavellan but I find speculating about possibilities fun.

I kinda think that there is bias already, Trevelyan so far has more detailed backstories than others. Youngest kid from noble family in Ostwick that has ties to Chantry and they are either working with Chantry or sent to Circle in Ostwick. Lavellan is just dalish, Adaar mercenary from Va-lokas and dwarves are surface dwarves from Carta.

I like everything that adds continuity and Trevelyan being so would just add it. Our dwarf is already from Shale's clan so I wouldn't mind Trevelyan having some connections too.
