Well, officially Trevelyan was gonna be the only option.
So I'm not surprised that they have a more expanded background.

Agreed.
I will never understand this Amell obsession some people have.
a family of heroic mages continually saving the south and yet get's treated like ****.
whats not to like?

When did I treat them like ****?
I like Hawke just fine, but I don't need a connection to their family each game. I prefer my heroes to have their own families.
People aren't asking for Batman and Superman to be related now are they?
I kinda think that there is bias already, Trevelyan so far has more detailed backstories than others. Youngest kid from noble family in Ostwick that has ties to Chantry and they are either working with Chantry or sent to Circle in Ostwick. Lavellan is just dalish, Adaar mercenary from Va-lokas and dwarves are surface dwarves from Carta.
I like everything that adds continuity and Trevelyan being so would just add it. Our dwarf is already from Shale's clan so I wouldn't mind Trevelyan having some connections too.
That's because the game was originally Human only
Malcolm is referred to by Gamlen as 'that Fereldan apostate'
Malcolm is referred to by Gamlen as 'that Fereldan apostate'
So.. maybe he's Ferelden mage who worked as mercenary in Free Marches and then was captured and spend sometime as circle mage in Kirkwall. That would tie them up ^^
Great! Now I have lore friendly reasons for my human Inquisitors to loathe the Qunari!!
Well, not that there weren't any before, but still.
Oh, I would absolutely love to have dialogue options to the effect:
"When I completed my sixth year and began my martial training under Knight Lieutenant Ser Martel, my grandfather, lord Trevelyan at the time, gifted me with a pair of qunari horns. He said they had belonged to the Sten that laid siege to Ostwick. I placed them above my bed and every night as my body ached all over and I counted my bruises, I looked at them and remembered why it was necessary. Just something you should be aware of, o Bull."

not you thedas as in the game world. ![]()

I actually love that the Couslands, Amells and Trevelyans have nothing to do with each other, because it already feelds dodgy enough that my "canon" heroes are all rich human nobles of some sort.
(can't help that they're the most interesting origins/most organically involved with the story)
At least it's not the same noble family cheesing it up every time, I'd start feeling like I'm Lannistering all over Thedas at this point.
If I'm allowed to play at reconstructing Ostwick's history for a little bit, then first, as most of you I guess already know, "Ostwick" literally means "East village" in old English, which in DA I suppose corresponds to the language of the people of Ferelden. Second, the name doesn't suggest that the settlement was an active harbor or a trading post at the time this name was given to it. With the non-Tevinter barbarians migrating from north and west towards south and east, my guess is that settlements such as Ostwick may have been a temporary stop point for the Alamarri, similar to IRL Magyars' temporarily settling around the Dnester-Danube area, before migrating further west. I'm very curious to learn more from the developers ![]()
Good thing I don't have the whole Amell problem in my worldstate anyways. My Warden was a Surana, Hawke's an Amell and whoever the Inquisitor is, he or she won't have anything to do with the Amell Family. I'd hate if we were always from the same family when playing human though, just like would have absolutely hated to be from Ferelden again like in every game so far. Luckily the Backgrounds for DA:I look quite nice and the Trevelyan one is actually the most tempting to me because of the ties with the chantry and the templars. I really didn't like the human noble background in DA:O, so I never finished the game as a human (not even as a mage but that's not the noble background's fault) , but this time around I might actually start as one and make it to the end. ![]()
I like the default name for the male Trevelyan btw, Maxwell sounds really good to me. Evelyn seems rather boring however, I'm pretty sure I won't be using that one. I have quite a few names to choose from, so I hopefully won't have any problems finding one once my character is created and I know for sure how they'll look. Most of them are French though, cause I really like the idea of being from a Family with close ties to Orlais - also it's easier for me to find French names that I like than old english ones. My favourites for a female Trevelyan so far are Léontine, Ambreanne, Capucine, Élodie and a few others. It would also be kinda funny to call her Andrastine or something and then have her become the actual "Herald of Andraste", but I suppose I won't do that. ![]()

Also there is an "Owain" in DA:O. He was the first tranquil you meet in the Circle Tower.
Yeah.. funny character.
Curiously, Owyn and Owain are not related names. Both have Welsh usage, but Owain is a variation of Eugene. Just found that out... totally useless information, I know. ![]()
I'm trying to make all my characters different from each other, personally. The only running theme so far with the Warden and Hawke are the eluvians.

If the Trevelyan Inquisitor was going to have a connection to any previously mentioned family, I'd rather see a connection to the Couslands than another Amell. That being said I'd rather the Inquisitor didn't have a connection to either of them.

Maybe Fergus was remarried to your Trevelyan character's sister or something. He seems to like women from outside Ferelden. ![]()
I'd generally prefer they're not related to anybody we know either, though.
I'm trying to think up female names for a lady Trevelyan and I wanted to know if 'Lucatiel' or 'Faustina' were appropriate for the setting

I don't think the Trevelyan background will be anymore expanded than the others. I just think it's the one we can dig into the most pre-release, as it has some history attached to it.
When the game is actually out, I'm sure the other race origins will have plenty of goodies too.

besides the human, I am excited for the dalish mage. the Keeper's first! I also hope that there is some tie-in or mention of Shale for the dwarf as they are members of the same house. She might not appear, but it would be cool to get a minor quest speaking of her.

All the race origins are interesting to me, heh. Dalish Mage is something we never really got to do before as it was absent from Origins, just playing a Qunari in general is interesting and I look forward to some more Tal-Vashoth/Vashoth viewpoints, dwarf has them carta connections + Cadash name...
Trevelyan first for me, though. Getting Cousland flashbacks. Which was my bby in Origins.

Of course it's your character, so you can choose whatever name you like. If you're asking whether either of those two names might seem like names that might exist in Thedas, Faustina definitely might. It's an ancient Roman name, which would totally be appropriate for a name with Tevinter origins. Lucatiel sounds like it could pass for Dalish.
Trevelyan is a Cornish name, so I'd look up Cornish first names or something if you want to stay consistent. I've never really done that, though. I've just gone with any name that I like out of my head or blatantly ripped from something else.
That name Maxwell sucks.
Sorry to anyone named Maxwell.
With a name like that, one is practically obligated to play a two-handed warrior with a silverite maul. Bang bang.

Why's that? ... drawing a blank on the reference.
I do plan on him being a 2hander though. Just not a big fan of hammers. I like slicing. Not crushing skulls. (....as if one is truly better or not.. lol)
The biggest thing we know, it has Ferelden influence because it so close to Ferelden. Other than that....Who knows? It's not apart of the three major Marcher cites, Kirwall, Tantervale and Starkhaven.
