Sigh, if only we could keep Bethany with a mage Hawke. I do know how one could mod Bethany with mage Hawke and have conversations recognize that Hawke is a mage (the current mods remove that recognition), but it would be very time consuming to do.
Plus DA:I might just contradict it.
Maybe the Keep will allow us to keep Bethany alive and still have our character be a mage.
I really hated Carver but I felt like DA2 just wasn't very involving unless you were a mage.

There was a thread a while back that said that DA:I won't support any choice that came as a result of mods (e.g. M/M Alistair romances or being able to rule as queen without being an HN).

Probably won't even be in it, and if she is it'll [probably be in a Nathaniel Howe/Zevran type of quest where if she lives she is sent on a mission to find something or if she's dead she's replaced by generic grey warden

If we are "planning" romance DLC and want to throw Bethany in there (although I don't get it personally) can I also chime in to add Aveline who I feel would have made a far better romance choice than any we got in Dragon Age 2. I also never did the Nathaniel Howe quest but since playing Awakening I think he would be great too.
And Varric. Because dat torch.
Three great NPC that were never related to you. TBH even though you are playing a different character than Hawke - romancing Bethany/Carver would feel a bit squiky.

Don't get your hopes up, part of the point of the keep is to prevent bugged world states that can potentially break the game.
