So there's no true "click once and watch" auto-attack outside of tactical combat. I'm deeply concerned. I am a disabled gamer with fine motor problems, and having to hold a button might give me a hand cramp over time. Does anyone have any idea how much more complicated it would be to run combat in tactical mode? And can anyone suggest other workarounds?

This really frustrates me. I have a very small collection of "safe" developers who I can buy without looking up the controls or worrying that some trivial mechanic will render the game effectively impossible. And now I have to worry.

You can use Windows speech recognition macros to replace button commands.

Not sure, but there might be a possibility to fix that in a configuration files. I know that in UE3 games you sure can do that.

Well, I'm not handicapped, [just special, some people say], but I plan on playing at the highest difficulty using only 3rd person view, probably with a controller on a laptop. I think the auto-attack issue only applies to the party member you are controlling, so if having to hold the RT gets too much, couldn't you just switch to another party member? The character you just left should revert to it's tactics menu. Sort of a micro-management approach.

But then you'd have to hold RT down for that party member instead...

Yeah, having to hold down that button the whole time sucks.

For the OP, all I can think is to play on lower difficulties.  It probably won't matter that one party member (the one controlled) isn't auto-attacking but just using cooldowns.

That would be problematic on higher difficulties since all the dps is needed.

Honestly, I kind of hope they patch this, because as it is it doesn't contribute anything and just penalises people who suffer from fine motor control, carpel tunnel syndrome, or other disabilities.

Combat for me will take place entirely in tac-cam mode.    The tac cam isn't locked to an overhead, iso position.   You can move it around just like any camera and zoom in and out all you want.   I play as my whole party, not one person, so won't ever use the 3rd person cam during combat.

If you want you could lock the tac cam into the exact same position as the 3rd person cam and you wouldn't see much difference on the screen, except for the fact that auto-attack actually works instead of being forced to hold down a button.

I think you can run in TC All the time, and even adjust the camera for the view you prefer.

Could you use sticky keys maybe?  Maybe if you bound "attack" to shift?

But you still see all the UI effects, yes?  Reticules and so on?

Yeah, now I want to look into the speach recognition software.

I can see it now. Having to say "attack! Attack!" over and over.

Tac cam doesn't bother me in theory--I just started up a new game of BG. I just worry that it might get aggravating to run combat that way. I don't have to continually "fast-forward, do I? Just unpause, let the game rrun and pause when I need to issue orders again?

I kind of feel your pain OP, I am missing the my pointer and ring finger down to the middle knuckle and have trouble with games that make you use both mouse buttons at once (tried using my left hand, but being right handed that didn't work very well for me) Hopefully we can change the key binds at least so we can find a configuration that we both can use comfortably..

I know this is really not helping, but out of the top of my head, would it be possible to map the auto attack button to a button like space, where you can rest your hand there to attack? So you can alleviate some of the pressure?

Maybe use the left mouse button with the lightest possible strength?

Or a macro that repeats commands indefinetely.

Other than that, i really don't understand why they chose to make us hold down, or mash buttons to auto attack? What part of combat did they balance around this i wonder.

On the PC version, pause works normally.

For the consoles, you need to hold down a button to "engage" (to advance time) while in the tactical view.

There is no auto-attack outside the tactical view, so if you're unable to hold down a key or button, you'll need to switch to the tactical camera (which doesn't prove anything on consoles since you'd just have to hold down another button for that).

Inthink you can Actually play in TC without pausing. You can still make your companions being 'controlled' by the tactics and use your character.

On console, do We know if for remaining in TC you still have to hold the engage button?

So tac cam is just an IE game with better graphics and a movable camera? I can work with that actually.
