Apparently when you enter tac cam the game pauses automatically. You have to hold the trigger to unpause and remain in real time. Again, I may be misremembering/misinterpreting but that was my understanding of the earlier demos.

That's what they said, I think, but it might be possible to adjust it so you don't need to hold the trigger constantly.  There was an option in DAO (Maybe DAII?  Don't remember) to make the hold-trigger-to-keep-ability-wheel-open into a tap to turn it on and a tap to turn it off.

I just hope they take post release feedback on board and at least consider auto attack in all modes. Holding a button does nothing other than keeping a finger occupied.
It's not a shooter where we need to aim and fire.

maybe a crossbow/bow character could work like that but unless our staff weilding mage characters or melee characters are aiming for crit locations I don't see the point.

Imagine fighting a dragon or something with huge hitpoints, a battle that will prob take like 10 mins and having to hold down the attack button, either that or missing alot of damage cause there are periods where you stand there like an idiot cause you aren't holding the button....

This makes no sense in any game like this, this is not a hack and slash. If bioware want to put dumb things like that to make it seem like its an action rpg, its failing already.

I would call this game an artificial action rpg, cause it tried to make it one through annoying mechanics.

As I said previously this was a design oversight that got into sp because of multiplayer, where there is only one character to worry about and 4 abilities where no auto attack makes sense because its diablo esque.

PC does not have a fast forward, only unpause and pause. Do in TAC cam all you do is pause and unpause as needed for PC.

What? Since when?

They heavily promoted the Advance Time feature. I was really looking forward to watching the combat unfold in slow motion.

It's only available if you use a controller instead of KBM.

I wish I could give you some advice jtav. I too am disabled, I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2012 and it really started to affect my joints. It was so bad that the one thing that I loved to do and the could keep me sane when I was out of work for months due to it, play video games, I couldn't. I couldn't even hold my PS3 controller because I was in so much pain and my hands wouldn't let me.

I'm much better off and can hold my controllers again however, my right thumb is now stiff at one of the major bending joints. So I can use it with no problems but it will lock up from time to time when pressing buttons with it. I don't know if constantly holding down a button is going to work for me either now that you bring it up.

Hopefully you get an answer.

Hi OP!

I don't know where you're based but here in the UK there's a charity called Special Effect which helps disabled gamers get access to tools/workarounds for gaming. I think there are similar charities in the US/other countries (Ablegamer - looks like this site has a forum too).

I really hope this is helpful to you and that you find a way to play DAI that really works for you :)

Sylvius, unfortunately the advance time feature is console only. Additionally, it's not so much slow motion as it is unpause and repause tied to the left trigger button. I just watched the PS4 stream with Mike Laidlaw and definitely is not slow motion.

Could you use sticky keys maybe?  Maybe if you bound "attack" to shift?

Will this really work?

I was sure it was slow motion when it was first unveiled. I was looking forward to a way to slow down the combat.

And I really don't like the idea of controller -exclusive commands. A keyboard has over 100 keys - it's not like there's no space for it.

It's not so much a controller exclusive command as much as a work in to integrate tac cam and pause for controller. From looking at both for my play style (ISO/TAC cam) KBM is exceptional more responsive imo.

Edit: I just watched again and it's definitely not slow motion. Rather the characters are moving and he the then releases the trigger which repauses TAC cam for consoles.

Even if we had that on PC, we still would not be able to "let it unfold". Button mashing ftL

If your currently controlled character isn't auto-attacking (and mine usually aren't), it should work just fine.

- Play on a lower difficulty and let the character you're controlling spend their time collecting things or looking at the sceneries

- Play as a range character and just wait until your spells/abilities have cooled down while being at a safe distance from the fight

-Not sure if that works for you but just switch between party members, they're already targeting something, you just have to click on what ability they're to use next

-Use tactical view,auto-attacks still work there and I don't think it'll be at all more complicated, might just take a bit of getting used too

-Wait for a mod to come out. Though apparently Frostbite is complicated to mod...

that should be controlled by the tactics you select for him.

Not some random, hard coded game mechanic that somebody thinks you shouldn't have access to based on how you want to play the game.

I call this the "Levi Dryden" method.  :D

Tactics have only ever done anything for unselected characters.

There was a popular mod for DAO that enabled tactics for everyone, but BioWare hasn't put something like that in a game since BG2.

OK, I think I might have combined responses to another poster when I added this.

I agree with what you said regarding the character you were controlling willingly not attacking while selected.  I agree with that, because that is literal roleplaying.  You are waiting to see what your other guys do before you make your next move.

It's that philosophy they are messing with however, but in the opposite direction.  They are not letting us play our selected character the other way, ie attack until we see what happens.  That's always been the gamer's option.

Didn't they have this in Kotor? I seem to remember that once you told a party member to attack an enemy, he or she will continue to attack with basic attack until you tell them otherwise. You could also cue up a few attacks as well.

I'm pretty sure it was never slow motion.

They simply described it very oddly (saying you can slowly play out the action, meaning that you can move time forward for a short bit, go back to pause to refine your orders, advance time again to see the scene unfold, pausing when necessary to adjust), which led to the misinterpretation that there was some sort of slow motion feature.

On PC, we simply have full control over pausing. You don't need a key to advance time, because you can just hit space bar again if you need to pause the game.

I know nothing about programming, but just from looking at the 2 versions of how combat will play out and the functions needed by the player to control their party, these are 2 vastly different systems.

I can't imagine the complexity involved trying to keep a "similar experience" across platforms.

KotOR's auto-attack worked just like DAO's and NWN's. The selected character you controlled would keep doing a basic attack until you told hik to do something else. KotOR and NWN also had a xommand queue, so you could give a series of instructions in advance and they would be carried out in order (but if you switched to a different character, the queue on the first one would be lost).

I wanted slow motion...

But I can't complain about keeping full pause control.
