There are several mods for DA:O with beautiful hair, but I cannot find one for DA II. Long hair for a male Hawke would be cool. I'd even be satisfied with a mod that simply takes away the gender restrictions for the hair.

I'm not especially savvy when it comes to DA2 modding, but for DAO (which uses the same engine, IIRC) it's not a question of 'gender restrictions'. It's the size and shape of the mesh relative to the cranium of each applicable race and sex, and the 'height' keying of the mesh as well. (Ever wonder why all human males are the same height, all elf females likewise, and all children are exactly the same size? That's why.) /terminology what is that

 

(And more to the point there is at least one DA2 hair style mod on the Nexus that adds some long 'Ren' styles for male characters. I think there's an unwritten rule that every game has to have them.  )

You should check out SG Beauty Shop and More Hairstyles pt 1 and pt 2 on Nexus, maybe even pineapple trees vibrant hair for silkier hair. They offer lots of of hairstyles for men and has no gender restrictions. There are several long hair options for men, long ponytails, witcher hairstyle et al.
