I certainly couldn't help but wonder why most Keepers I run into rarely cast Barrier, since it doesn't seem to me like the cooldown on it is that long.

Most keepers forget they are a support class and are then too busy trying to get the most kills while leaving everyone barrierless.

I think you're probably right.

Funny thing is, my only offensive spell is Chain Lightning, and I was actually getting a lot of kills, even though I was concentrating on Barrier (the cooldown on Chain Lightning is pretty fast, so that probably explains part of it.)

On my keeper ive specked havy into the barrier perks and tend to get in the thick of it with others and keep barrier up on myself and others practicaly indefinety while spamming improved chain lightning and veilstrike to weaken, I have improved veilstrike with the increased 30% damage reduction and 15% increased damage taken and 10% mana gain.  My chain lightning hits 6 times doing between 300-600 damage a hit with an ok staff.  If only 2 enemies are next to eachother is an instant 900 - 1800 to bolth of them and chain lightning has a fast cooldown.  I also have bolth the abilities of staff attacks and spells cast reducing cooldown times.

Most games even with characters that are supposed to be good damage dealers i have the most kills while also keeping people alive.and croud controlling with lightning stuns and veilstrike AE knockdown and weaken (the weaken also affects bosses but doesnt knock them down).

If im playing with a competant tank that can hold agro I just sit back and keep barrier on them without worrying about casting it on myself.

Oh forgot to add, as to the term PUG, I first came accross it playing World of Warcraft back when it first came out 10 years ago in late 2004 and in that game it meant, Pick up group, not pick up game.

Just had a group with a templar who didn't know you can block the dc's death jump and panic scream with shield wall.

Doesn't really matter of course, because you stand a snowball's chance in hell against the dc with a pug.

You should upgrade Stealth and Elemental Mines as well as grab Flask of Ice and Evade, along with their upgrades.  You can basically tank as her with that set-up.  Granted, both the daggers I have equipped on her have 330+ DPS and she has the best armor you can craft for her equipped, but still.  I like going into Stealth, getting into a group of enemies, throwing out Elemental Mines, basic-attacking to get my stamina back up, then throw on Flask of Ice and drawing aggro towards me while continuing to attack everything I can.  Since I have Flask of Ice upgraded, all the enemies that hit me or I hit at melee range freeze.  And Evade lets me dance around enemies with no issues.   :P

I'm sort of thinking of going with Flask of Fire and Flank Attack. If I read the power descriptions correctly, I'll be able to spend most of my time in Stealth, while being able to more frequently use my mines, as well.

If nothing else, it should be fun experimenting to see if it will work the way I think it does.

She's only good if you have a Life on Kill ring, and what kind of goat-sacrificing nobbler has managed to RNG one of those...

Had all the typical PUGs last night:

- no-Barrier Keeper

- face-planting Reaver (lots of these...)

- "i will solo everything" AW and Ele, in separate games, but each face planted well away from the rest of the party

- no-guard / no-taunt Lego

Sometimes i just have to flick back to SinglePlayer, and think "you know the AI isn't that bad really.."

Finally... got a nice run of games with a good connection, intelligent players and zero bugs. I think we were all surpised by this. Myself on templar for the most part, she is kinda awesome, an ele and an assassin with the fourth kinda being a bit revolving door with different people jumping in and leaving after one game.

I'd found myself in some games beforehand where on demon commander people would bunch up everytime they were about to be attacked by him, got old really fast.

Let's see...start up game with keeper, first game crashes before it even starts.

Had the oddest lego on team. Never opened a single warrior door but did stand near a rogue door waiting for us to open it, ran ahead each time we were fighting another group then on wave 5 sat at the door with us and never ran off. Did stick around for a barrier though.

Assassin continuously running off fighting mobs and dragging them back to the group. Wave 5 he runs off to the other side of map, plants flag, refuses to come back and dies. Nobody wants to run back there to revive him so he quits. Host migration because he was host. Game starts me with no abilities. (Sigh)

Threatening lobby, one player doesn't want to ready up.

(2 warriors, 2 mages, all mid teens levels)

Someone starts kicking another (readied) player for an unclear reason.

A kick war breaks out and everyone has one or two kicks against them.

As no-one fully kicks anyone out, or leaves, the game proceeds.

This somewhat hacked off party plays the fastest most aggressive set of games

dismantling Templar and Demon factions alike.

No one kicked at the next lobby  :D

I think I might have just had the worst teammates ever...

There was the Reaver who was leeching for the first half (and useless during the second.)

There was the Arcane Warrior who just kept spamming staff attacks... at nothing... usually standing at the starting position of every new doorway, when there were no enemies anywhere near us. I thought maybe the poor guy was suffering from bad lag, until after the match it turned out that he was the host.

The Elementalist actually wasn't too bad, except that he had a habit of opening new zone doorways just as we were about to open the treasure chests.

I think I could have solo'd the end, when I was (not surprisingly) standing alone with my Alchemist, but it was a Demon Commander, so no dice.

I make it a habit to give my characters Spirit Resistance Tonics so that if I do end up in a match against demons, I have pretty good defense from the Demon Commander.  Also, you should just keep moving when you see the Demon Commander go underground.

I actually had fun trolling the Demon Commander a couple times as my Keeper.  I managed to grab his attention, so he kept attacking me (despite the fact that he was also getting hammered by the rest of the team) and I'd stay still whenever he'd go underground, staying a good distance away from everyone else so they wouldn't get hit.  When I'd see the puff of smoke indicating that the Demon Commander was about to play peek-a-boo, I used Fade Step and avoided him.  That was basically what happened that entire time while the rest of the team dealt with the mobs.  Was pretty fun.   ^_^

I just (deliberately) PuG'd my first Threatening match.

We wiped in the first Zone. The video was less than five minutes long.

Back to Routine!

On PC, there is a big difference compared to ME3 pugs. ME3 pugs were fighters while DAI pugs are quitters. IMO, it comes with the nature of the game as the soldiering spirit is weak in DAI pugs and there are more sissies aka Solas and whiners aka Cullen (take that lyrium man and be useful finally). It is just that dreadful moment comes when the whole team stops fighting and decides to die. I guess, need to improve the curry skill there but it is somewhat useless as the host usually quits even if there is some fighting going on. Host migration is handled better than in ME3 but there is a limit to that.

I'm dreading going to perilous pugging. That would be very adventurous.

I'll start perilous PUGing once I have some decent gear since I gather the only advantage to perilous over the other difficulties is more exp and more cash from chests / jars.  So realy no large incentive to play perilous other then to get the achivement.

I'm really enjoying threatening now.

I've ignored the advice 'sure go on to threatening at level 5 - or 1 - no problem lol' - I just find that rude on PuG.

When my build is essentially there, less passives (L.12-15) I'll move up,

it means I don't feel exposed and I can play confidently.

I think I was level 10 (as an Alchemist.)

I thought my Superb Ring of Life Drain would save me.

It didn't.

Alchemist has quite a strung out skill tree,

so I won't take her to Threatening until Level 15, once the key passives are in place.

I run a Fire Flask Flanker build.

I'm moving in a similar direction, except with Mines instead of Poison.

I just have to learn not to stand in the middle of crowds throwing mines, because as destructive as it is, it draws ALL the aggro... and she's pretty squishy!

On the PuG grumbles...

  • Why will folk enter a lobby if they are not ready to play !  and
  • Why run ahead all the time when the others are opening a treasure room, stay together !
  • And when we've killed the guardian, don't run through the next door before we opened the $£@*&! chest...

I was just in a lobby with you, and a legionnaire wouldn't ready up. The 3rd kick vote didn't come either, so I left.
