Threatening was hilarious today.
I popped on around noon to get in a few matches and kinda hoped the daily challenge would be Red Templars and that I would knock it out early just in the course of things. That happened in literally the first match. Found a game-in-progress that needed a rogue, so threw my Assassin on to try and finish leveling her up. I should've known it was bad when I entered Zone 1 and all three teammates were already dead. I mop up the remaining enemies and the rest of the match went just about how you'd expect it to from that grand entrance. Zone 4 wipe, but got some XP for the Assassin and accidentally knocked out the Red Templar challenge. Knocking it out "early" also seems to have thrown my prestige points out of whack again, as my upper right shows 588 but the leaderboard properly shows 593. *sigh*
Spoiler alert: this was when DragonRacer should have quit for the day and put her ESO disc back in.
Instead, I decide to work on my mace challenge, so I run my Templar through a few matches. A few successes, mostly wipes. Apparently, everyone wants to play Fereldan Castle today.
Wait, let me amend that. Apparently, everyone wants to play Fereldan Castle and die horribly today. It's been a plague of no one using any strategy, dying out in the open on Zone 4 and then demanding I come out into the hurricane of arrows to revive them.
Planning one last match, I switch to my Elementalist to put levels on him. Normally, I go straight to Barrier first, then fill in Firewall and Firestorm. This time, I had done the opposite, so I had Winter's Grasp, Firewall, and Firestorm, but no Barrier. Not a big deal on Threatening; everything's going to die in a rain of fire anyway. I finally find a Threatening lobby not preset to Fereldan Castle and we ready up.
RNG, of course, gives us Fereldan Castle anyway. And just because RNG really loves me (which everyone knows from my ongoing 8-month saga of never getting any goddamn HoK rings... I still don't have one, BTW, for those of you keeping score at home)... it gives us the Inferno dragon. Because it's been a long time since I felt 100% useless, so of course it does.
On Zone 3, I regret not mic'ing up. Or it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway. But I wanted us to not ring the gong. Guys, literally, it's a fire dragon with immunity to fire and that's all I have going for me - I cannot even give you Barriers to help - so can we please not ring the gong and just have a normal Zone 5?
Nope, they ring the gong. Here we go.
I learned, at least, that Firestorm and Firewall are nice for taking the dragon's guard down fairly quickly. But, of course, I was doing nearly zero damage to her and my teammates were not exactly high on DPS either, so what followed was a 20-minute dragon fight into a wipe. The Archer died and Faded pretty much instantly, leaving me, a Legionnaire, and Isabela. I was the only one cranking the trebuchets and bothering to set them off, which was insanity because with no real DPS happening in this group (Isabela should have been DPS, but that was not the case in this group), the trebuchets were literally the best damage dealers. But no, I hoed that road alone while dragonlings bit my ass.
I tossed my two Jars of Bees. And stuck to basic staff attacks. That was, sadly, all I could do given the set-up.
Ultimately, we wipe. Yay, I feel awesome now. Was so helpful. And back in goes the ESO disc...
